Decision to Leave - the RM connection
I saw Decision to Leave (2022) on the plane coming home on Friday. It's written and directed by Park Chan-Wook who also made the SK film classics Old Boy and The Handmaiden.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Watching the trailer again I can see real parallels with the style of The Handmaiden which was a film that stayed with me long after the credits rolled.
youtube
I found this review and I think it hits upon all the main themes and says many of the things I would have wanted to say about the film but in a more elegant and eloquent way.
It's clear that Decision to Leave also means something special to RM. In a recent interview with Park Chan Wook he said this in response a question on South Korea as a brand.
Tumblr media
In September 2022, Namjoon posted the following quotes from the movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
11/09/22 RM's Instagram Story (Trans cr: Aditi @ bts-trans)
1. Hae-jun  (Keeping his eyes on the binoculars, pushing the massager away with one hand)  For some, sorrow comes crashing in waves. For others, it spreads gradually, like ink in water.
2. Seorae's 'aha' expression. (She hands over the umbrella and ties his unravelled shoelace) Hae-jun: I always try my best to look straight at people. If you look at the corpses we find at sites, about half of them have their eyes open.
3. Hae-jun: You said I was classy, didn't you? Do you know where that class comes from? It's pride. I was a policeman with pride. But in my madness over a woman, I screwed up the investigation. I......am completely shattered.
The shattered scene is devastating and central to the whole movie.
Tumblr media
Namjoon also posted the following mountain climbing clip where he uses some of the dialogue from the film.
25/09/22 RM's Instagram Story (Trans cr: Aditi @ bts-trans)
So it was not surprising that he should choose to pay tribute to one of his favourite films through music. This week he released an alternate version of Closer with clips from the film. I think this MV would be quite confusing to anyone who didn't understand the whole context but it does show that Namjoon is a lover of film noir and its take on love (obsessive and tragic).
youtube
"Decision to Leave X RM 'Closer' (with Paul Blanco, Mahalia) Collabo M/V, Made a little lofi arrangement to better match the mood of the film!, It's an honor to do this for the movie I love."
Tumblr media
And while we are talking about soundtrack music the song Mist by Jung Hoon Hee is repeated at various points in the film and really adds to the ambience of the film and its exploration of the femme fatale trope.

While the performances of the lead cast are all believable, it is Peter Hein’s action-with Baahubali doing the Van Damme split and some sweeps that set your spirits soaring.Īlso Read: ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ box-office collection Day 5: Film’s Hindi version mints Rs 197. 7.95 crore more and now the film is just Rs. The romance between Devasena and Amarendra has the Titanic fervour. the 18th day in theaters, Baahubali 2 Hindi has approached the Rs. Of course it is CGI and VFX that grab you in your seat, but Baahubali also takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. He once again gives us our Benhur and Ten Commandments experience rolled into one. Those two films couldn’t knock The Fate of the Furious off top spot though, as the action blockbuster added another 19.4 million, to take its.

Indian cinephiles must salute Rajamouli for his vision and ambition. That would be the news of the weekend if it wasn’t for Baahubali 2: The Conclusion earning the best weekend for a Bollywood movie in history with a stellar 10.1 million from just 425 locations. Starring: Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty. To avenge his fathers death, a young man leads an army into battle against a cruel tyrant in this Tamil conclusion to the historic saga. What’s more, this part provides an answer to a question uppermost in everyone’s mind for the last two years-it tells you why Katappa, the old faithful, killed Baahubali Senior. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Tamil Version) 2017 TV-MA 2h 46m Action & Adventure. Baahubali has been sketched out as such a symbol of strength and power that he makes you root for him throughout. Part 2-The Conclusion onerously carries the equity of the first part on its shoulder and ups the scale on many counts-especially in heroism. It is a visual extravaganza that India must feast on. Of course, the end comes together in a long-drawn climax that could have been 10-minutes shorter.īut don’t judge Baahubali. Even with an earning of 1.40 in its ninth week, Pushpa has surpassed blockbuster films Allu Arjuns Pushpa (Hindi) beats Ajay Devgns Tanhaji, Dangal and Baahubali 2 at box office in 9th week Allu Arjuns Pushpa (Hindi) beats Ajay Devgns Tanhaji. Albeit with some childish conspiracy theories added in. The film completed two months in theaters on February 17, but the earnings are still on.

It also delves on the love-story between Amarendra and Devasena(Anushka Shetty), who is mother of Mahendra Baahubali(Prabhas in a dual role.) Anthropomorphism
1) When you look at an animal do you feel fear/love/revulsion. Where does that come from?
Our reactions to certain creatures are based on your cultural upbringing, fro example, many people grow up with family members who have a phobia of spiders, despite there being no dangerous species in this country, therefore viewing this phobia, this is often then inherited. As well as animals such as rabbits, hamsters, dogs and cats are domesticated and have been for centuries, brought up in family homes around children, so of course we grow up seeing these animals as a family figure, as this is how they are often treated, therefore we feel love towards these animals.
We often judge animals based on aesthetics, feeling more love towards fluffy/furry animals like dogs and cats. Animals with more unique and unusual aesthetics we tend to dislike as we find their appearance repulsive, once again in the case of spiders, as well as many other insects.
Another reasoning to our revulsion towards some animals, is through their association. Such as creatures like maggots and vultures, our mind immediately goes towards death, or pigs, we think immediately of dirt and mud. These associations are not desired, so we feel more repulsed by such animals.
2) Do all cultures view animals the same way? What is universal, is there complete opposite meanings?
Different cultures across the world absolutely have different views of different animals, of course the most known difference is that of the cow; In England, we see them as a product, used for meat, leather and milk, they aren’t typically associated with being kept as pets, whereas in other cultures and religions such as Hinduism, the cow is seen as a sacred animal and the majority are vegetarian, viewing the cow as a symbol of life that should be protected, the cow is associated to Aditi, the mother of all gods.
Another difference in view on animals is western civilisation, the obsession wit dogs as pets has become so prominent that many dog breeds have become somewhat mutated through overbreeding and breeding certain wanted characteristics, to where such breeds of dogs struggle, an example would be the pug, the flattening of the face that has been achieved means a large portion of such breed suffers from breathing problems.
Some treatment/obsessions with certain animals dates far back into history, with of course the Egyptians, believing that cats were magical creatures and brought good luck to people who had them in their homes. To worship them, the Egyptians dressed them in jewels, fed them well and mummified them after their death.
3) Like actors, can you make an animal perform any roll?
Within reason. Many animals are used in performance rolls in films, advertising etc. The most common animals are dogs/cats as they can learn tricks and to react to certain phrases and movements, depending on the breed, many dogs can learn up to 250 words.

La La(chimolala) Land Chapter Eighteen: Is it Over?
Tumblr media
jimin x reader genre: angst warning: one curse word word count: 1.8k
[Inspired by La La Land]
Read on Wattpad
Read on Ao3
It’s a bright Friday morning. The gloomy, gray skies that followed Jimin’s departure are gone, compelling you to come out of your mourning. You knew you’d have to, sometime; the sunny California skies were never going to indulge you for very long. They had to restore themselves to the very picture of cheery perfection—and, now, so do you. You set aside your black slacks in favor of a colorful pantsuit, splash on some vibrant eyeshadow, and pull your hair back. You munch on some cereal, desperately trying not to remember having to explain your Costco-sized box of Honey Bunches of Oats to . . . him.
If I don’t say his name, I’ll miss him less.
Your drive to work is mundane—until BTS’s new hit single pops on the radio. You turn it off.
If I don’t listen to him sing, I’ll miss him less.
Part of you knows it’s a lost cause. Part of your mind starts singing, “Caught in a lie . . .” whenever you make such empty promises to yourself—such hollow rules for your behavior. His voice seems to find you wherever you are.
You are your own worst enemy.
You march into work, at battle with yourself.
“What’s on the schedule today, Aditi?” You ask your assistant as she hands you your morning latte. (It’s still a little weird to you that the studio gave you an assistant. It makes you feel more important than you are. You have to remind yourself constantly that Aditi’s just an intern.)
“Well . . .” she hesitates. “The post-production team just wrapped everything up last night.”
“What?” You almost drop your coffee. “That’s great! So are we getting a screening today?”
“Yeah . . .”
“Oh my goodness,” you hand covers your mouth. “I can’t believe this is happening. And so soon, too! The studio sure didn’t lie when they said it would be a quick process! It only took us five months! That has to be some kind of record.”
It takes you a moment to notice that your assistant isn’t celebrating with you.
“Aditi, what is it?”
Her thick, dark hair falls in her face. “Well, last night, after you’d gone home, Walter made a decision . . .”
Walter Cleveland was the director of Red Writer. You’d been working very closely with him throughout the entire process. “A big one?”
Aditi nods timidly.
“Without me?” You say in unbelief.
“And I’m not sure you’re going to like it,” she warns.
_________________________
Before today, before this moment, you always thought that whenever people disguise bad news before breaking it to you, the things your mind could conjure up—the horrid possible outcomes—would be more terrible than any reality.
After you watch the producers’ screening of Red Writer, you take it back.
You stand up right as the credits start to roll and the lights come on in the small studio theater, marching to the front of the room and pointing at the screen.
“This? This . . . this is not it. This is not the film I wrote.” Anger swells up inside you like a tsunami getting ready to crash on shore. “Walter, you took out the entire ending. Marianne’s decision to perform music at a coffee shop and live a simple life. That’s the entire point—the entire message of the movie. That no amount of fame or money makes you happy. That being with loved ones and blessing the lives of others in small ways is much more impactful than big-time success. But now, the band’s last show is the ending? That not only ruins Marianne’s character arc—it robs her of one entirely!”
“That’s not how we saw it,” the middle-aged, slick-haired director is quick to respond back. “With her return to small-time songwriting, Marianne ends up at the same spot where she began. We felt that the story is much more inspiring if we end on the note of Marianne’s success—of her watching Sam and the others perform at such a huge venue.”
“But she’s sad in that scene. That’s how Georgia acted it—I know because worked on it with her for days. You can see it in her eyes. She’s unhappy, she’s stressed, she’s worried she’s losing Sam to a crowd of adoring fans. Only when he walks in the coffee shop at the end and we see the ring on her finger do we realize that her worst fears weren’t realized.”
The tension in the room heightens as Walter scoffs in response. Aditi smiles at you encouragingly from the corner, but the rest of the crew looks unfazed by your argument.
Your mind flashes back to all those days spent downtown—all those unfruitful, insufferable pitch meetings. You thought you were done with rooms full of stupid men in suits looking at you, unimpressed by you and your work. You knew, you just knew, that those days were over. That you’d never have to endure one again.
You look into Aditi’s eyes, fresh and new and full of hope for the future. A newcomer on the screenwriting and filmmaking scene. The timid yet bright-eyed and eager girl you were six years ago.
You hope with everything inside you that she never has to endure this feeling.
The head producer interrupts your train of thought. “So, Miss Y/N. What is it you’re saying?”
It’s a challenge. A chance. To do something.
The hope Aditi’s presence gives you swells into a conviction.
To do something.
“Take my name off of it,” you say.
If people actually audibly gasped the way they do in cartoons, they would have done so here.
“But Miss . . . Miss Y/N,” begins the head producer.
“You’ll receive none of the credit for the film,” chimes in his assistant. “Our studio bought the rights to your story, to the script. Characters included. If you back out now . . .”
“All of your hard work on Red Writer will be wasted,” Walter almost smiles. “It’ll be as if you never wrote it in the first place.”
You shiver at the thought. But it’s my baby, you brain protests. I’ve been working on it for six years.
“It’s no longer the story I wrote. You’ve morphed it into some half-baked—pardon my French—piece of bullshit. The same crap the major studios produce.” You fold your arms. “If you release it like this, I don’t want my name on it. I wouldn’t want my name anywhere near it.”
“What a threat,” Walter says, turning to face the crew. “We wouldn’t have the privilege of highlighting some no-name screenwriter in the credits? Poor us.”
You have to run out of the theater before you burst into tears.
_________________________
“But Jagi, I’m so proud of you,” Jimin’s voice consoles you through the speakers of your Prius.
“It’s over, Jimin! I’m ruined!” You blow your nose on a fast food napkin. “Six years of working at a stupid, sticky coffee shop for not enough pay every morning and staying up into the late hours of the night writing every night. Six years of barely paying rent; six years of slumming it across the city on public transportation. Six years of writing, editing, revising, and pitching—over and over and over again. Six years without a single vacation, without going on a single date. Heck, I only allowed myself to go out with you because you were reading my screenplay! I saw it as work! I worked endlessly for six years for this, and now it’s all gone. That was my one chance. My one shot at success. And it’s all gone!”
You stare at his name on your phone through your tears. There’s nothing else to look at.
“Can I say something? You may not want to hear it,” he warns.
“Shoot," you tell him. "I’m already at my lowest low. Nothing could make me feel worse.”
“I hope this will make you feel better,” he takes a deep breath, then begins. “The reason you walked away from all of this is because they messed up your story, right?”
“Right,” you manage.
“More specifically, they messed up the ending. They refused to teach the audience the message—the message that happiness is found in the simple things, not in the world’s quintessential view of ‘success’: fame and fortune. The message that you wanted to teach them. The message that you crafted.”
“Uh-huh,” you follow.
“Yet you’re bawling in your car because you yourself are not able to achieve the world’s definition of success. Even though you wanted to show audiences it’s worthless.”
Ouch.
“It’s my dream, Jimin!” You yell. “You know that better than anyone else in this entire world! It’s the first thing we talked about, and it’s the only reason I saw you a second time,” you regret the words as they fall from your raw, chapped lips.
But that doesn’t seem to stop you.
“Just because you achieved your dream of becoming the perfect poster boy of the perfect boy band with gaggles of perfect girls chasing after you all the time—just because your dream fell into your lap—doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be upset when my dream doesn’t come true. I work hard, and I’m smart; I’m not one of those mindless fangirls who’d fall into your bed at the slightest provocation, so I’m sorry I can’t make that part of your dream reality. But at least you have boatloads of international fame to make up for it.”
He’s only been away for a week and a half, you think. And this is happening already?
Your shoulders shake as you cry into your steering wheel.
“You know good and well that that’s not my dream.” You can palpably, deeply feel the hurt in his voice. It's clear and raw and irrepressible.
Your mind flashes back to that night by the pool, lying in Jimin’s arms after the party he’d thrown you, celebrating the good news about Red Writer—the news that your dream would finally come true. You’d asked him what his was, and he’d said . . .
“I want to live a normal life. I want to buy a house like this, throw parties like this one. I want to cover the walls in artwork and fill the fridge with food and put a big bed with tons of fluffy pillows up in that room . . . not just for myself, but to share with someone. And then, someday, I want kids of my own to be splashing around in this pool, having the time of their lives. And I want to watch the sunsets. Every night. I want to see them all—slow ones and fast ones and bright ones and dull ones, pink against blue and orange against gold. I don’t want to miss a one.”
Was that your version of Marianne’s coffee shop ending?
And did you just ruin any chance of it coming true?

Rio Olympics 2016 And four Indian ladies!
The Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro, from August 6th to 21st 2016, have come to a grand close. We haven't any space right here to cowl all the ones tremendous achievers from across the world. consequently we will listen simplest on India, although it has been a disappointing story. As typical, India despatched the biggest ever contingent to participate in diverse sports activities disciplines, but for 11 lengthy days after the begin brand new the games the u . s fumed and fretted for an elusive medal which turned into made worse via a few poor vibes, remarks and hiccups. however, four awesome ladies from a in large part patriarchal Indian society got here into sharp cognizance and focused interest giving the countrymen a rare possibility to experience proud of them.
Tumblr media
In Badminton expectations were usually from the former world no. 1 Saina Nehwal, however she failed now not even thru to midway inside the opposition. And got here PV Sindhu, never in contention for a medal, and fought like a tigress competing with gamers a great deal better in global rankings. She set the ball cutting-edge euphoria rolling by means of coming into the quarter finals modern-day girls's singles event and then stormed into the semis. In that memorably competitive fit she defeated international no.6 and ensured a silver medal via getting into the finals. For a trade, cricket fever changed into replaced by way of Badminton as complete present day India watched that marvellously fought final nineteenth August, 2016. Sindhu did the whole lot possible to justify the u . s .'s slogan 'cross for gold', however in the end become outmanoeuvred via a few killer smashes by using international no. 1 Carolina Marin from Spain. PV Sindhu gained the Silver medal and made Indians proud and celebrating.
In wrestling awareness changed into mostly on Narsingh Yadav who, alas, got a 4-12 months ban from the WADA on the day he turned into to open his marketing campaign, and on Yogeshwar Dutt in 65kg freestyle who even failed to qualify on the closing day modern the Olympics. in the meantime, coming from nowhere Indian lady Sakshi Malik in girls's 58kg freestyle wrestling gained the u . s . a .'s first Rio medal by means of prevailing the Bronze inside the play-modern dayf. Medal hopes for India erupted after this brilliant moment and Indian women commanded absolute interest.
Tumblr media
Two different impressive ladies captured the fascination modern the country not by winning medals, but with the aid of making revelations what Indian girls are able to performing if given the proper modern day admire and centers.
Dipa Karmakar from the North japanese state latest Tripura represented India in inventive Gymnastics for the primary time ever and got here agonizingly near winning at least a Bronze. She finished fourth inside the finals by means of the narrowest trendy margins and enthralled the us of a by way of doing the extremely dangerous Vault latest dying. She have become a celebrity and rightfully so.
Aditi Ashok golf Player did what became least anticipated even by way of the maximum positive. in the exceedingly west-ruled game today's golf she nearly did it to the finals, but on the day that mattered maximum she couldn't go on and slid to 41st position. She too delivered complete consciousness on the truth what Indian ladies can do in disciplines that were not given enough notion by way of the sports mandarins cutting-edge India.

Those four girls, ultra-modern route apart from few different promising ones, saved the blushes for India in Rio. A Gold medal has been eluding India because the Beijing Olympics latest 2008 while in London Olympics 2012 India did ship the largest ever contingent and gained the biggest ever number present day six medals, however without a Gold. This time India needed to grow to be with simply two medals even after sending a larger contingent than for London. In guys's Hockey in Rio India did very well first of all, but couldn't preserve the momentum going having only the comfort trendy defeating the remaining Gold medal winner Argentina inside the organization level. There is not a lot to write home about different fields modern motion in Rio as a ways as India is worried.

What Aditi Rao Hydari and Athiya Shetty wore on 17/05/2018

There’s no denying that pantsuits are one of Bollywood’s favourite silhouettes right now. Yesterday, Athiya Shetty stepped out in a metallic floral version of the power staple, while Aditi Rao Hydari wore her pale pink blazer with matching shorts and Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja picked a molten silver jacket by Diane von Furstenberg. Freida Pinto went a little more extravagant for a public appearance last night with a fur-detailed Bibhu Mohapatra dress and Winnie Harlow picked a black and white Zuhair Murad maxi. As for Janhvi Kapoor and Twinkle Khanna, it was all about ripped jeans and white blouses.
Aditi Rao Hydari’s pretty pink outfit
Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja wasn’t the only Bollywood star favouring the pink-on-pink combination this week. Just hours after the newly-wed was seen returning to Mumbai in that rosy pantsuit (worn with a white tank top), Aditi Rao Hydari attended the launch of the OnePlus 6 phone in a similar ensemble.
Giving her sharp look a summer-ready spin, Rao Hydari skipped on trousers, pairing her baby pink Zara blazer with matching blush shorts. The actor wore the coordinated separates with a slogan tee from Mango, and rolled up her sleeves to give the ensemble a more laid-back vibe. Keeping with the romantic vibe of her outfit, Aditi Rao Hydari picked pastel pink sandals, and matched her lipstick to her outfit too.

Athiya Shetty experiments with metallics
After the likes of Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Athiya Shetty stepped out last night in a pantsuit too. And if you need lessons on how to make the classic look brand new, this look is one you can’t miss.
Instead of opting for solid hues, Athiya Shetty attended the Lonely Planet Awards last evening in a silver Paule Ka blazer and cropped trousers set. The suit was dotted with baby blue and gold blooms, and was worn over a ruffled shirt. The actor skipped on fussy heels and walked the blue carpet in strappy silver flats.

Freida Pinto goes for eye-catching embellishment
Overseas, one of the most exciting looks yesterday was Freida Pinto’s. While Bollywood stuck with sharp blazers, Pinto stepped out in New York wearing a white Bibhu Mohapatra dress that was anything but basic.
Featuring layers of feathers along the neckline, the ivory midi was also embellished with geometric silver patterns and metallic flowers. Freida Pinto paired the dress with black Roger Vivier heels, a matching silver clutch and a silver watch. With such a busy outfit, the actor decided to keep her beauty look simple with a slicked back bun and barely-there makeup.

via Today Bharat Nani definitely makes a difference when he steps in. He's effortlessly funny, spooking people around him with his dark humour. Sowmya Rajendran Follow @sowmya_rajen Nani's V, directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti and now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, is about a man on a killing spree who challenges a police officer to catch him. That much was apparent in the film's promos. We also knew that Nani was playing this chilling killer. The only intrigue left in the film was the whys and hows of the crime. What's the killer's motive and his pattern? V opens with a riot and dashing DCP Adithya (Sudheer Babu) coming in to control it. The sequence is built to amplify Adithya's heroism every bit, from the actor ripping his shirt off to sending men to space with his punches. As the credits roll, the newspaper clippings about Adithya reveal what sort of a man he is. He not only believes in human rights, he also walks the ramp. He not only busts drug rackets, he's also voted to be the sexiest man around. He's not, in other words, the typical movie cop who nurses a paunch and accepts bribes under the table. It doesn't take long for the first murder to take place after Indraganti sets up the stage for Adithya. But though the screenplay goes through all the motions of an investigation, you are never sucked into the proceedings. For instance, when Adithya walks into a brutal crime scene where the victim is a fellow police officer, no less, he hardly flinches. The emphasis is more on his flamboyance and heroism than what would be a natural response to the crime. His subordinates (Vennela Kishore plays Mansoor, Adithya's sidekick) and superiors too seem totally unbothered that there's a body lying in front of them, using the opportunity to crack some clever jokes. Even the most jaded cop on the job is likely to have some emotion to what they're witnessing but not these guys. And since they don't seem to take the crime seriously, neither do we. Sudheer Babu's interpretation of Adithya is a semi-sneer plastered on his face for a good part, which doesn't allow us to warm up to the character. The romance between him and Apoorva (Nivetha Thomas), an aspiring crime writer, would have been more suited to a college romcom than a dark thriller. Nivetha is charming onscreen but is stuck with looking chirpy and providing comic relief that only serves to distract. She wants to write a crime novel, so when Adithya opens a drawer in her room, he finds papers with words like 'KILL' written on them. Sigh. Nani definitely makes a difference when he steps in. He's effortlessly funny, spooking people around him with his dark humour (but you also wonder why he behaved that way after we know all the answers in the end). The reference to K Raghavendra Rao's films is especially hilarious. Playing the antagonist in a film is a brave choice for a lead actor. However, without giving too much away, one can say that V does not push him enough in that direction. Aditi Rao Hydari as Saheeba looks beautiful but the actor has been typecast in the earnest Madonna role one too many times. Her expressions in V are the same as what we saw her do in Sufiyum Sujatayum, her last release. Indraganti makes some interesting writing choices, like that scene when Apoorva's parents (Thalaivasal Vijay and Rohini) casually confess that they had premarital sex or the army man who puts his wife above the nation. But they're lost in a film where the larger premise is wholly predictable. The motive for the crime is as obvious and unimaginative as it can get, with film after film falling back on the same reason for a revenge saga. The problem with V is that it is neither a solid police procedural nor a full-fledged action film. Though the police are supposedly investigating a serial killer, there is barely any discussion on profiling or even forensics. The clues are embarrassingly old world, bits of paper with convoluted riddles. The only 'psychiatric' inputs come from Apoorva, in the middle of some flirting and cutesy meet-the-family sequences. The cat and mouse game between Adithya and the killer gets repetitive, though everything looks stylish and classy. But lighting, background score and camera angles can only add to the suspense, they cannot create it from scratch. That is the job of the script. V falters heavily in this department.
