Of all mythological characters, Thetis' grief resonates the most with me. The loss of her son is so final, more final than mortals losing each other- mortals might still meet each other in the land of the dead when all comes to pass. Somehow her sorrow feels the most like grieving a loved one who was of a different religion, you know what I mean? Like...we're not going to the same place! and I hope they've made peace with that before their time.

by the time Odysseus returns, Telemachus would look quite a bit like his father back when he left for Troy. Would Odysseus notice that, or would he think he looks more like his mother? And then what?

Odysseus getting hit with the force of twenty fucking years of absence when he sees Telemachus. Yes, he knew that his son was growing each day, each year. But he was still a little child in his mind, fragile and bright, and despite all his attempts to picture him older, in his memory he was still just a little baby. Besides, it's not the same as seeing his son, now grown into a fine young man, in flesh. Maybe that's when it crashes on him full force. His heart recognized him as his son in an instant, but the sight startles him.

He has no idea who Telemachus is.
