Man these days of nothing only broken up by short entries of Jonathan going ‘more terrible stuff happening’ are so harrowing. He didn’t even write down any theories about when the Count took his things or what he might use them for; it’s like he’s purposely not dwelling on the bad stuff, just noting them down for posterity/to retain his sanity.
He’s given up on documenting anything but the unusual-for-this-situation while he waits for any chance to plan an escape. Maybe he even restricts himself to writing down only that which directly affects his means of escape… What use is anything else now?

Dracula is really a master of psychological abuse - on the one hand he reinforces the bars of his prison, on the other hand he lets Jonathan feel his power even more because he dared to fight and so his hopes get crushed in a most cruel way.
Once again, this day by day-approach makes this entry bone-chilling.
