How about Gaz works at the aquarium but not directly with the animals, he’s more on the technical side. He is however, like most people, very intrigued with the Orca Mer and because of the size of the tank, there is a lot of work to be done around there, so he’s not an unfamiliar face to Ghost.
When the aquarists who take care of Ghost decided on their ‘feed Ghost another mer’ plan Gaz was like “uh I don’t think that’s how that works.” But because he’s not a marine biologist just a maintenance guy they totally ignore him. They are going with what everyone says about larger carnivore mers because there is very little research into the field.
Of course they drop in the seal mer and instead of a blood bath there is what looks like an introduction, if a little awkward. And Gaz tries to re iterate his idea but he is brushed off again. The aquarists decide to give it a few days and not feed ghost to make him hungry.
So Gaz calls up and old buddy who is sailing the world with a research crew observing Mers and trying to get more info about them. And Price confirms to Gaz that he’s right, Price has never seen a mer kill another Mer regardless of secondary species and in fact different types of Mers seem to get along very well despite what their tails might suggest.
Again Gaz tries to tell the carers this and again they ignore him. Thankfully almost all these conversations happen within ear shot of the tank and its inhabitants. So when the harpoon incident happens and Ghost becomes incredibly aggressive and protective, he knows that Gaz was not in on this plan.
Gaz watched for a few days as that poor seal mer swims around with the wound and decides to try and help.
When he approaches the tank from where the workers normally stand he’s scared that he will be lunged at like everyone else but he is only glared at and he realizes that Ghost knows he wasn’t part of the plan. In fact with some gentle coaxing and showing off the med kit Ghost eventually gives in and lets Gaz take care of Soap’s wound. Gaz is now one of Ghosts only trusted allies. And Soap thinks he’s pretty great too!
Late Mermay idea!
Orca mer Ghost in an aquarium but he is almost always hiding and quite depressed so the aquarium decide to give him a little more enrichment.
With humans lack of mer knowledge they come to the conclusion that because orcas eat seals then surely an orca mer would eat a seal mer. They decide that during closing hours (to avoid guests seeing the blood bath that will surely follow) they will drop a live seal mer into ghosts tank so he has the natural experience of hunting instead of just being fed slabs of meet.
But mer’s don’t eat other mers, regardless of secondary species.
So when seal mer soap is dropped into his tank, ghost just thinks he’s being given a very energetic handsome roommate.
And the humans are confused as to why ghost hasn’t eaten the seal mer yet
