And so it is finished! This might just be one of my favourite pieces I’ve ever done. I loved every step of the way making this, and I may have been a little sad to wrap it up.

When I was first daydreaming about this, I only had a general vibe, a song, a whole lot of internalized struggles about my Italian heritage.At some point earlier this year after talking to a friend, I had realized I had a lot of reservations about my own heritage, and it got me to wonder why I had this love/hate relationship with it.So I resolved not to shrink away and to honour where I came from not only for my own mental sake but also to celebrate the people and the country I’m from, and I think this has helped in more ways that I can realize. Migrating to another country felt liberating at the time, and being in a culture I felt I fit in, somehow equated to relegating language and heritage and interests to the backstage.

So I put as much Italian-ness I could into this. From the traditional Taranta dance of the deep south, to pre-Catholic myths of Greco-Roman and pagan traditions about the sea, dance and the heavens, to the metalwork of the Roman era. And it was a great opportunity to try a hybrid approach between traditional and digital art! And as a lover of sci-fi, I feel stories about the future could also use a healthy dose of playfulness and a wider breadth of cultural settings. Enjoy some closeups below

"One for the family album" I felt pressed to explore Sylvain's family history a bit, because I don't see a lot of platonic co-parenting in media, and because him growing up without his folks around, getting a hold of a picture like this would be monumental. Juno, master eel fisher of Acquaviva and Galvani, a decommissioned fusilier droid have been friends for a very, very long time. They've endured conflicts, and the struggle of reinventing themselves when purpose vanishes, left with seemingly nothing to look forward to. Yet raising a healthy human might've been the hardest thing they've ever done.

A random reblog on my feed led me to your page and I've just scrolling through your art with big ol' sparkles in my eyes! You work is delightful!! I'm especially charmed by your OCs (Human Dynamo). I'd love to hear more about them or maybe point me in the direction of a past post with more character details?

Hi and welcome! Thank you so much for the kind words, it always makes me very happy when people resonate and get interested in my ocs, especially Sylvan and Volta! I have some stuff scattered here and there in the #words.txt tag in my pinned (and through most tags in the pinned post tbh), but since I'm actively writing and developing a few stories with them (comics and prose), I might not reveal a whoooole lot just yet since I'll likely be posting updates here. He and other Foresters basically keep an eye out for poachers and trespassers and whatnot, among other duties. Volta used to work as an automaton "jester" or performer if you will. Shenanigans ensue when Volta decides to pack up and leave :)
