What We Do
We hire artists to help community groups make musicals, films, video games, and other art about local issues. We run workshops, host events, and put together projects based on the needs that we see in our community.

Hi Everyone!
Just emailing to give you a quick update on what happening here at Dramatic Changes!
NEWS
We updated our website; each project now has a logo! (www.dramaticchanges.ca)
Time to say farewell to our summer student Dane Fader. He did a wonderful job all summer and now he's heading to university in Windsor Ontario. Thanks Dane!
Gentrification: A Hip Hop musical is experiencing some difficulties. We appreciate your patience as we try to move forward with this very delicate subject matter. If you have any thoughts or questions about the project, please reach out to us!
We had Our Anti Oppressive Improv show for Halifax Pride. Lots of people came, and lots of laughs were had! Some highlights included: baking an improv cake in a microwave with our youngest member, Emma (she's 6, and she's amazing), and the literal "feedback sandwich" where we layered criticism between two slices of positive reinforcement.
We also ran 2 Speed Friending events for Halifax Pride. 30-40 people came and made some new friends! We are looking at developing a weekly or monthly speed-friending event and would love to hear from you: are you interested in such an event? how often would you like to come?
As part of the street party project, we are hosting a Portia White Song writing competition: write a song about a local hero for your chance to win $400 cash + professional audio and video recording valued at $600. Deadline in September. More details at http://streetpartyproject.dramaticchanges.ca
We got funding to purchase some audio equipment for outdoor events! This will be available for the community to borrow as soon as we have everything set up! If you know anyone hosting an event, please put them in touch with us!
Personal Growth: an interactive educational musical about food justice is starting to gain steam. Please send us an email if this sounds exciting and you'd like to know more!
Our Gambling Awareness project is well underway. We have been working on a podcast/radio play musical and we'll be asking for feedback soon! We are also partnering with several organisations such as the Kings Community Action Group on Gambling and the NS Association of Black Social workers on some interesting things. More details to come in future newsletters!
We have begun working on an exciting performance project around the Stop Alton Gas protest. Nothing concrete to report yet, but I can say that there has been talk of puppets! If this is a topic that interests you, please reach out to us!
