Ok, so dogs wag, cats purr, humans moan, rats boggle,
What do birds do to show they approve of affection?
Varies from species to species a bit!
For the most part you could say “they poof”, if you offer a bird a head scratch and they flatten their feathers they’re uninterested, but if they fluff up their heads it typically means they want the scritch and are enjoying it! They can also be quite demanding, if you scritch and then stop it’s pretty common for them to rub their heads against you to get you to resume scritching.

Parrots may also present a return of affection to their people by gently preening their human or fluffing up their body and squishing tight against them for “cuddles”.
Some species may do things like pin their pupils in excitement, “quake”, head bob, or potentially even roll over on to their backs
On the more extreme side of things a bird that’s a little Too Excited about the interaction may attempt to regurgitate to feed the person. This should generally be discouraged

My literal one year old of a conure tried claiming a nest and I had to break it to her that she’s much too young to be a mother lol

😭 this entire week has had me on the verge of mental breakdowns because Newts spring hormones have had him so dysregulated I’ve been walking on eggshells. Can’t handle him, can’t talk to him, have to have a thick sweater on any time he’s out, trying to keep an eye on him exclusively through peripheral because eye contact was triggering him. Absolutely exhausted running through all the protocols to reduce hormones and modifying the environment to try and help him all the while he’s drawing blood through my sweater
I haven’t heard a single vocalization from him that wasn’t of murderous intent this entire week it’s so upsetting but then today! The protocols are finally starting to kick in again, he’s a chatty boy! A happy boy! Finally starting to act like the noodle boy we know and love
Spring time is taxing and exhausting and for whatever reason it is hitting him so incredibly hard this year I’ve never had him flip quite this badly for quite this long it’s been on and off for months. So glad the protocols are starting to work, he’s of course still temperamental but even just a moment of calm is more than I’ve gotten all week

Getting a special bonus Newt only bird time because springtime is hard when you are just a little man who loves his husbird and that makes you want to murder people
