reminding yall that he was a traumatised manic teenager with a history of grooming that was projecting. it was a projection of his previous "relationships." kash, ned, that random ass man doug? using the excuse that it was just "fun" to keep him a secret.
and he wasn't able to process his own emotions let alone the context of mickeys fear. he was trying to goad mickey into "living his truth" which is super fucked up but he was manic he couldn't look at the situation rationally. manic remember? his brain warpped it into thinking it would lead to a long term happiness for mickey. here are some symptoms of bipolar: loss of touch with reality, apathy, delusion, agitation.
do i agree with this or think that its ok? no. but that doesn't mean that I dont understand what was going on for him.
not to mention the shameless writers did not understand the queer community or the struggles that accompanied it. for them it was closeted = liar.

mickey is not only ians first "real" relationship he's also the first age appropriate partner he's had. kash but also (at the oldest) 13 year old Ian with a senior in high school (at the youngest). Ian has be neglected to being the other woman his entire life. since he was THIRTEEN I want yall to really think about that for a second. he was forced to be a secret mistress before he could legally get a job.
think about what he said to mickey.
"not interested in being a mistress anymore." he was scared mickey was only using him for a fun time and only wanting him when his wife isn't around. he was 17. im not saying he's right or that mickey is in anyway comparable to these men, im just explaining the thought process.
he was also manic which yall always convinently forget. and he genuinely didn't think he was giving mickey an ultimatum because he didn't think mickey would even think about coming out. look at his face when he sees mickey doing it. and now think about how he left immediately because he thought that there was nothing.
in conclusion ian gallagher is a sweet baby angel princess and has never done anything wrong in his life!
edit: just to add the about “ur a coward”. again MANIC ofc he wouldn’t be able to think reasonable or objectively about the situation. and again he was projecting. mickeys trauma does not equate the absence of ians

i saw your post about the coming out scene and it made me remember how i really dont understand how mickey doesnt get criticism for using ians status as an underage sw to seduce that old man to blackmail for money to give to svetlana. and ironically mickey was threatening to out him to his family just like svetlana was with mickey. he was putting ian (and himself) in danger of being sa’d and that was really unfair to me. i think it’s because people see mickey as a victim but ian isnt? but them and svetlana are all victims of terry and he’s the reason they do what they do. ian was a 17 year old who just wanted to help mickey because he loved him and if he wasn’t manic he would’ve done it a lot differently
see, i 100% see ur point but with the seducing old men part, I think mickey knew that if anything was to happen he would be armed (he's mickey milkovich lol) and ironically its safer than if he left ian at the club. that was so heartbreakingly dangerous and im so surprised that fiona and lip did not try to get ian out of there.
and i didn't include that scene in my post because those situations are very different to me. i think that freak lost the right to come out on his own terms the second he put his hands on a kid. and I think mickey beating him up and stealing his money was fucking awesome.
and yes he would have done things a lot differently if he wasn't manic.

soemtimes I wish someone who isnt a romantic partner would have cared for Ian enough. like ofc mickey cares immensely and I don't wanna discredit the good he does for Ian. But there are so many things in Ian's life where he needed care and love and reassurance from someone he is not romantically involved with.
being groomed from a young age, and nobody cared enough to see what's going on with kash, and when lip did, he did nothing. when Fiona and Jimmy Steve found out Ian was sleeping with Ned, nobody cared enough about Ian to help him. Instead it was all about Jimmy Steve and his man baby feelings about his dad being queer.
when Ian was crying about the aftermath of s3ep6 and s3ep9, Frank was heading a gay rights movement purely for his own gain, while Ian's siblings feasted on a gift basket sent to their house. Nobody wondered where Ian was, so he was sobbing in his bed, alone.
when Ian ran away to the army, his entire family just accepted it, the fucking Milkoviches were more worried about Ian than his own family.
when in s6 Ian doesnt know what to do with himself, nobody cares enough to show him that his life isnt over bc of his diagnosis. nobody cares enough to tell Ian that he still has options, that he can survive.
when Ian is heartbroken, nobody cares enough about it to tell him anything but "good riddance".
when Ian has a crisis of faith and loses himself in religion and mania, nobody cares about him enough to talk to him until its to late. nobody sees him enough to know if he is taking his meds.
In the Gallagher household Ian doesn't exist. Fiona and Lip are bonding and supporting each other (no matter how angry and misguided sometimes) in their role as the eldest. Debbie and Carl are looking out for each other, and Fiona and Lip always have an eye on them bc they're younger. Liam gets raised by everyone. But Ian just kind of floats around in the void, and while they all may love him, they don't notice him.
Lip and Ian are close, but they aren't caring for each other properly.
As long as Ian contributes to the squirrel fund and doesnt make a fuss, they dont see him.
And once his mental state gets bad they all sit around wondering why they didnt catch it sooner. But they never look.
I just wish that someone would see Ian Gallagher.
