jegulus picking harry up from preschool but one of the moms starts obnoxiously flirting with james while they wait for the kids to be dismissed. james is somewhat clueless, because he’s so social and thinks she’s just making polite conversation. he pleasantly engages while regulus is literally fuming right next to him. the lady is like twirling her hair n shii and openly hitting on james, while regulus is standing right there. so while the lady is complementing james’ figure, gushing on and on, “gosh, i can tell you work out a lot , you must be so dedicated!” regulus interjects their conversation and says, “yeah, his figure is even better when you’ve seen all of it-“

james jolts in suprise, blushing, scolding, “reg!” the mom looks towards regulus for the first time and sneers in a challenge. regulus shoots her a smug expression right back, reciprocating the challenge. it’s that moment when the kids start pouring out the building and harry runs out yelling “pa!!!!” “dad!!!!”. reg kneels, prompting harry to jump into his arms. when he does, reg swings him up with an enthusiastic “heyy buddy!” and “how’s my little haz-elnut?” while harry giggles. reg leans harry towards james so he can greet his son as well, and while james is preoccupied with harry regulus shoots the woman a wink before starting off with his gorgeous husband and adorable little boy. moral of the story; don’t challenge regulus black.

i love being up early but i love being up late. and i love getting lots of sleep. what now.

i grew up surrounded by the gays. i was very lucky, in a small town in northern Ireland, my found family were all queer in some way or another, before we had the words to describe it the way we do now.

when i was a kid, i remember just thinking it was pretty standard. gender or whatever never had a say in who I was attracted to, who I fell in love with. it never occurred to me that I was 'different', until I saw those who were outwardly definable as 'different' around me being othered.

so, in my true defiant nature, i leaned into it too. the tattoos, the hairstyles, the clothes, the makeup, whatever I could do to show my chosen family, my friends, and all the people who had some shit to say, that I was one of them. we could all get hatecrimed together, yay! there were fights to be fought (and we did fight), protests to stomp, but there was also a lot of fun to be had.

so coming to the marauders fandom as a seasoned gay, watching the young lot being their truest, happiest and most authentic selves, loudly and proudly, is honestly the loveliest thing. i remember the tiny nights huddled in my little shitty house, me and my few friends all dressed up ridiculously and making up dance moves to lady gaga or going out to the gay night club in belfast and being in absolute awe of it all. i remember the thrill, the fear and the love that comes with finding your feet with people the same as you, or so wonderfully different from you.

so now, seeing that happen on such a large scale, in such a huge community, is just such a privilege. whether through writing or fanart or cosplay or edits or whatever it is, it is absolute magic.
