Those endings CAN be mature, but not always. No trope is inherently “mature”, it all depends on execution. And Toy Story 4 and Frozen II did these endings in very poor ways that undermined the themes they set. They were not mature, but bad writing. Sincerely, someone whose had relationships like that where I’ve gone separate ways with loved ones and am at peace and happy with that.

The problem with Toy Story 4 and Frozen II is that they go about it in ways that defy their predecessors’s messages and themes. The first three Toy Story films are dedicated to talking about the importance of being there for your kid, even if you’re not the favorite, so Toy Story 4 ending with Woody leaving Bonnie once he’s no longer the favorite is a huge slap in the face to the first three films and basically proves Stinky Pete and Lotso right. This trope can be done well, but Toy Story 4 and Frozen II are HORRIBLE examples of it.

There’s that post that’s like ‘everyone should get into a tiny niche fandom at least once’ fully agree, that was really fun -- but I would like to add that everyone should get into a fandom where their opinions run counter to major fanon because it really teaches you about sticking to your guns and trusting your interpretation of the text without having to rely on peer validation

I don't enjoy being a hater openly but I am so sick of pants in redesigns. And so many come with captions making unnecessary digs at the mere existence of skirts. I'm so tired. I'm so sick and tired.

This is especially an issue in the Ace Attorney fandom since the localization changing the setting from Japan to California ended up causing issues in the later games (hence the infamous “japanifornia” stuff) to the point where the localization team had to reconcile it by clarifying that the localized version takes place in an alternate history where Japanese culture flourished in America (which I’ll admit is a creative rectification since it was kinda too late to undo the problem at that point so they did the best they could). So in other words, the localized Ace Attorney is in some manner a different continuity from the original Japanese Gyakuten Saiban. HOWEVER, I have noticed some fans take this too far and use it to take advantage of mistranslations that misrepresent certain characters or create plot holes. Here’s an example of where I draw the line:

Treating Diego Armando as a different character from Soryu Kaminogi in the sense that they have different ethnic backgrounds? I think that’s fair.

Using the fact the localization made Godot/Diego say more misogynistic stuff than his original Japanese counterpart to bash and demonize him and brushing off the points about the mistranslations as “I’m just talking about the localized version of him!”? Yeah no, you need to acknowledge how the creators intended to write him personality-wise and that the localization screwed him over.

One of the annoying things about being in a fandom for something that was originally in a foreign language is the amount of fans who just REFUSE to listen when it’s pointed out right in front of them that there was a mistranslation that either explains something or changes context, mostly because the more accurate translation doesn’t support their personal interpretations.

Say what you will about the Ace Attorney anime but at least it deserves credit for being the first official AA media to outright go with Edgeworth being adopted by the von Karmas when the games were ambiguous about it (esp. in the og Japanese), moving that plot point from “fanon” to “secondary canon” (here’s to hoping future games just outright confirm it with no room for doubt or something).

I don’t disagree that Draco should have gotten a redemption arc.

What I do disagree with is the idea Snape “stole” it from him or that it’s his fault Draco didn’t get one. If Rowling decided not to redeem Snape, it’s highly unlikely this would’ve somehow made her open to redeeming Draco. This may blow your minds but two characters can have a redemption arc. Quit pitting Snape and Draco against each other or blaming Snape for Draco not getting a redemption arc. It’s inaccurate to say “Snape got the redemption arc Draco deserved” because if Draco did get a redemption arc it would have been a different type of redemption from Snape’s.

No, I’m not saying that if you like Draco you also have to like Snape, but understand Snape has 0 blame in Draco’s writing.
