"So, the thing about the acoustic set of the Eras Tour is I do a different thing on guitar, I do something different on piano, it’s completely different every single night, and that’s just one of my favorite moments in the show. I just love to have sort of these one-on-one things. We’re the only people who are ever going to hear these songs on this night, in this way. And I try and kind of, because it’s the Eras Tour, take us back throughout the albums, so I’m trying to hit as many of them as I possibly can."

"You know, folklore, which is the current era we are in, by the way, if you couldn’t tell from all the moss, this is, in my mind, folklore’s not just an album I made, it was like an entire imaginary world that I escaped into every day during the pandemic. I started writing this album two days into the pandemic, and you know, I think we all had our methods of escapism during the pandemic. Mine was that I would just pretend that my reality was actually that I was like, an extremely poetic Victorian lady, wandering through the woods, or the Scottish wilderness, holding a candle, you know, she only writes on parchment, with like a feather quill. That was who I pretended that I was. And I pretended that I lived in this house, you know? It’s great, it’s nice—a bit drafty in the winter. But I think for me, like, folklore was all about changing up the way I did things. Like, I’ve changed up my music several times in an extreme way over the course of my career, and those always tend to be my favorite albums, because they are the times that I appreciate you the most. I appreciate you so much for being like, ‘Go for it! Change it up! We’re here to see what happens,’ like, it’s very liberating, because you very much could say stuff to me like, ‘No, make the same album that you’ve just made. We like that thing. Just do that over and over again,’ which, I’m just glad you don’t do that, because I’m having so much fun getting to experiment, and evolve, and you’re the reason why I get to do that. And folklore, I started trying to tell stories in a different way, because I’ve always told stories in a very autobiographical way, and with folklore, I decided, ‘I think I’m just going to create characters, and have them fall in love and break up and go through all these things.’ And long story short, the song I’m about to play you is about a character named Betty!"

"So folklore has a sister album that I’m also very proud of, and it’s called evermore. And the reason I call them sister albums is I just never stopped writing in between these two albums. I just kept going, and they came out really, really close to each other, like, just a couple months apart. And you know, when I was writing this music, I’d finish a song that I loved, and then I’d get this real kind of wistful sadness, because I didn’t know if I’d ever get to play this song live with you, and sing this song with you, because we didn’t know the future of concerts at that point in time. And everybody had bigger things to worry about, obviously, but let me just say, I am absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude and joy at the fact that right now, I get to sing champagne problems with you here in Edinburgh!"

"Welcome to the acoustic section! I’ve never played this song before. This is one of my favorite reasons for the acoustic section, because I always do something different every night on guitar, and then I do something on piano, and it’s an opportunity for me to really try out some new stuff. Let’s see how this goes over."
