I think others have written about it with far more nuance, but off the top of my head:

Palamedes and John are both described as having sun related imagery. Yet, when Palamedes becomes a 'god killing star' it's in service to save the ones he loves and for John it's to return to murder Mercymorn and hold his loved one's hostage.

Palamedes was an academic obsessed with saving a dying woman to the point of ruining his own life for her. The way John personifies the earth and tells Alecto she was "sick" mirrors that narrative, but again...he ruins everyone else's lives instead.

Nona describes that occasionally Palamedes will lapse into these very cold, hard concrete stances and tones that scare her with either the force of their determination and anger. John has these similar lapses in the funny guy routine, but again, more often than not, John's are framed to horrify the reader because he's a man who will remake people into what he wants them to be.

This one is a bit of a reach, but the ways in which Palamedes and Camilla are constantly fighting with Blood of Eden for custody or Nona and the protection of Nona is like an inverse mirror of John fighting with the very billionaires who are the Blood of Eden's ancestors for the safety of earth.

Palamedes loves to teach. Camilla comments on this multiple times. John wants to be called Teacher by Harrow and those around him.

Both just have similar start points and responses, but the framing and where Palamedes ends up with Camilla speaks to the brilliance that is a good foil and how Palamedes' ending isn't a triumph, but it's so much kinder than what John has done to himself and the universe.

Okay, but...there's a reason Tamsyn Muir has characters like Abigail, and Palamedes, and Cassiopeia, and Issac be necromancers.

I need you to look closely at the ways in which the dynamic can be "yay!!! horrifying" versus "derogatory!!!!! horrifying".

I need you to remember the ways in which Wyll believes in the ethos of Baldur's Gate at the start of the game and what it stands for, completely unaware and unwilling to let himself realize that the city he loves so much cast him out.

I need you to remember he was canonically a prince.

I need you to remember that his father told him he deserved to be cast out and he believed it, implicitly.

I need you to consider that Wyll and Gortash are foils in the same way that John and Palamedes are foils.
