This tumblr will be a mix of in progress work and finished work. On my twitter I frequently post very early in process screenshots. I also have a youtube channel @ "otteroflore"!
I also have a twitter I'm pretty active on where I pretty much singularly post my art and sometimes little things about life.
My first try was a one- piece formfitting shirt that could go around the back fin. The second try is three pieces of fabric and will go over the top of the fin. Im thinking of using a small string or elastic that can catch on the lower fin. The top bit will attach together with a button or velcro.
I think ill have to make the skirt a bit differently so it poofs out from the middle band. I also need to make the arm holes a bit bigger. I want to do some sort of tiny cuff or half cuff around the fin too.
Making a tiny shirt for an odd shaped body like this is difficult with my minimal sewing know how. Im actually gluing the pieces together, and idk if im even going to sew the final one since its on such a small scale. Still, im making patterns so this can be replicated in the future and it is simple enough it can be sewn.
Argharghargh. I had to sculpt this tiny bead for the tail and i accidentally broke it. The apoxie i used to resculpt it wasnt strong enough but it was also stuck to the stick i was using to hold it up and paint it.
I used some epoxy glue to stick it back together, which i hope works. I havent used that glue in ages so its a little crusty. Im thinking of also coating it in the new uv resin to harden this end, although idk if it would work.
this is my muppet oc, soup. cousin of cookie monster
my partner pointed out that they would be very nastily sticking their face in a bowl of soup and always be slightly damp. soup is like a child of cookie monster and oscar the grouch.
i figured how to use the support blockers and only select a few support areas!
ok so here's the thing. Since I realized the fins need to blend into the body more I realized it would be best to print this upside down. The main problem with this being, it has a peg that fits in the head. So I tried to make the transition curved to reduce the overhang.
But I know that when printed, it will probably be kind of ugly. BUT , it doesn't really need to look super pretty? I think? Cause as long as the head fits you can just shave/sand down that area.
I'm not sure how "clean" people wanting 3D prints want them.I feel like some level of sanding is par for course, but if there's a piece that prints weird, even if its inside the pony, will people be okay with that?
(I mean, said people could also use supports to prevent that. but still.)
Well here are the attempts?
So... the printer that the library has isn't in Cura normally so I picked a random an relatively cheap elegoo printer for testing settings. The one I picked out was "Elegoo Neptune 4 pro", chosen because it was on a budget list so the print quality is good enough but not amazing, i assume.
(If you havent been keeping up with my 3D printing story, I do not own / cannot afford one so I downloaded cura to test my models)
Problem: left, the one the guy at the library printed. right, an edited version that was my attempt to have it print cleaner without supports. The chin specifically is what im worried about, and also the head finds. The eye holes and nose will be covered up.
I do think the chin on the new one /looks/ like it will print without supports better. The one I got from the library had no supports and it printed but needed sanding/refining and I filled in the chin.
Maybe people who are more experienced with printers can give me some suggestions about how to tell if these overhangs will print right? I used a suggested setting that was .1mm, an infill of 15% and shell (wall?) thickness of .84 (idk what that means)
heres it with supports for no reason. definitely seems wasteful to print something like this with so many, though. other than the chin bottom the rest of this pony turned out rly well the first time without supports.

In case you're wondering I basically have made no progress on her for 2 reasons:
1- When I get to a point in a project where I REALLY LOVE it i start worrying about ruining it.
2- see those tiny specks of paint? That's from painting the coral stand. I tried to patch them up but it dried a bit darker (even though i used it all from the same bottle as the body >( idk it was barely a shade darker) so i decided to repaint the entire body and head with a very thin layer to help everything mesh well.
I'm gonna spray her down with Liquitex matte sealant before I do the eyebrows + eyelashes + freckles + strawberry seeds. I'm gonna try to do the eyebrows +eyelashes in pencil, which I've never tried before.
Red Pride Pony: Scarlet Slippers
Toy Gimmick: Glitter cutie mark
Pose: Scarlet
In the original lineup of My Little Pony toys, and the 1980s cartoon, all of the primary ponies, unicorns, and pegasus are girl ponies, and the only male ponies are called the Big Brother Ponies. There were 8 BBPs released in the US and 6 more in Europe, and their poses were used for a few other exclusives.
The BBPs look nearly identical to the other ponies except they are all earth ponies - no horns or pegasus wings - a slightly stockier build and FEATHERED feet:
So when venturing forth and making my own digital ponies for pride I wanted to make unique poses with feathered feet and keeping in mind the BBPs.
Concept art!
Also experimenting with "cycles" and "eevee". Since eevee renders so much faster I prefer to use it for animation, but Cyclees does hair better.
gosh, I take way too much footage of my art projects.
I did a script and everything for this video, so the voiceover is 16 minutes long, and I'm cutting together footage. I figure I can leave in about 4-5 extra minutes with backing music (because I want to get to 20 minutes at least); despite this I have so much footage I won't be using.
I think one thing I'm also realizing is the bits where I'm sculpting can be a bit boring. A lot of minute pressing and pulling. oh well.
Idk if thise will be a. Controversial color combination. I love pink and green contrasting each other. I was planning on making the green a little more subdued but im sort of obsessed with how it looks as this bright spring green.
The planned fabric is a little lighter but i think is roughly the same hue (it shows a little dark in the photo, its nearly pastel spring green)
I ended up texturing the coral! I think it looks pretty good already but its not done.
When i was like eight my mom had me take some all ages art classes at a studio near my school and i think thats where i got this cat.
Its on my shelf in a place of honor and i think its a very funny piece of art. Its like a premade cat so obviously youre allowed to paint it whatever colors you want. Go nuts! Make it pink! Polka dotted! Rainbow!
But our cat Puma was an all black cat so. Its just black.
Hi! I love your Takara pony and other projects. I work at a library in the department that runs the 3D printers, and wanted to say if you ever have questions on models I'd be happy to help out! Seems like you're doing well though. The lobster (SO cute) looks like it'll print nicely :) I'm excited to print a pony for myself one of these days
Thank you I appreciate it! BTW all I always welcome like advice and tips, like I've said I'm super new to it all! I don't know if you noticed but I got my print done /at/ the library by me so I appreciate you library 3D makers <3
One question I do have, and I'll post this for feedback for others, is if theres any free software people recommend for testing supports. Although I can't test the prints myself, I realized that if I have access to the software I can see where supports would need to go roughly and that would help the process.
I like to render the models with the colors I'd want to eventually paint them before finalizing the sculpt
I tried to make this one more 3D-print friendly than I've made other models (in particular since most of the other models are based on other stuff). I think the back part might need some supports still. The antennae are meant to be separately printed though.
