She became suddenly very ill and was hospitalized. They did everything they could to help her but ultimately it was too much. She passed away early in the morning on Friday the 24th.
I am completely devastated by her loss, but am doing my best to keep moving forward. I want to thank everyone here for all the love and support you have all shown me since her passing. I am so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community. I know you all loved Sugar and it makes me feel less alone to know that there are others mourning her loss too.
I will always cherish every moment I had with you, Sugar. The sound of your sweet voice, the flutter of your wings, and the taps of your little feet will whisper in my ears. The soft, warm smell of you will sweeten the air I breathe. The sight of your beautiful feathers and your pretty dark eyes will linger in my vision. The warmth of your feet, the softness of your feathers, and the smoothness of your little beak will live in my fingers, on my cheek, and on my shoulders. Every memory of love will warm my heart.
I am so grateful for the time we had, short as it was. It should have been so much longer, but every moment was precious. You were so loved and so cherished. You were the most perfect bird in the whole world. I will miss you always and I will never, ever forget you.
Cockatiel is lost in Japan. He/She flew away on May 6th. The location where bird flew away: Kanagawa prefecture, Kōzagun county, Samukawa town, Kurami station. Please, cocktatiels family, please share this post. Maybe some Japanese person will see it (or you have some friends who could help) and contact owner! Owner’s Instagram is @keiko_pisuke I add flier and reference photos. If you can’t give information, at least you can reblog it, thank you!!
I could've sworn you posted another sleepy birb video with a music box playing but I can't find it? Was I imagining that or??
Oh yes!! Now that I think about it... I do have a sleepy birb series lmao. I know just the video you’re talking about anon just gimme a sec to reblog it!!!
we rescued a cockatiel (we named her martini! she didn't have a name and the vet said she's at least 3+ years old!! wth!) she loves us and loves to be picked up and held. however, we have to put her on nutrient supplements! bc her old owners had her on WILD BIRD SEED (fuck!) anyways... do u have any cockatiel tips? LOL
Oooooghh Martini is such a cute name!!! Bless you for giving her a forever home :’)
As for cockatiel tips... Miso is my first cockatiel and I’ve had her for a year, so I’m still newish to tiels. But! I’ll just share what I’ve been doing so far :)
Having seeds in their diet is important for tiels and budgies (but oof, wild bird seed! yikes!) so generally I do 50/50 on seeds and pellets, in separate dishes because I don’t like it when seed hulls cover up the pellets. But if you’re just starting out with pellets, it may be difficult to get her to try them if they’re separate. When I was introducing Miso to pellets, I offered them 1) as a kind of goop by mixing them with warm water and mixing seeds in to make her ‘accidentally’ get mouthfuls of pellets while foraging for seeds, and 2) slightly soaked to soften them, but not mushed completely, so she could get used to their texture and shape. Gradually, I made them less soft, took the seeds out of the equation (they were fed separately), until she was eating pellets normally. There are several different ways to introduce pellets, though, and each bird is different.
(side note--I use a combination of Harrison’s, roudybush, and TOP’s pellets for all my birds. Both Miso and Kube take the smallest sizes for Harrison’s and roudybush and Miso straight up doesn’t like TOP’s pellets because they’re too big for her. Martini may have particular tastes for a certain size pellet too, so go ahead and explore the different sizes marketed for cockatiels/smaller birds. I believe if you email the companies, you can request samples as well, which I’ve seen some people do, but I haven’t done it myself.)
For fresh foods, I prepare chop usually with carrots, broccoli, bell peppers and other leafy greens and freeze whatever I don’t use that day. I keep pasta and grains separate from the mix, though, and add them on last. I give about 1-2 tbsp daily in the morning and remove it from the cages when it starts to look wilty and not fresh
I also offer sprouted seeds and grow grass in small dishes that I leave around! Here’s an old photo of the grass (sprouted from wheat grass seeds) that I stuck some millet in to make them dig around:
I love sprouting these things because they’re great as preening toys too! I’m trying to stick some seeds in those hole-y ball toys so that they’re like shredder toys that I can mount inside the cages
Also because she’s a hen it’s important to keep a cuttlebone accessible to her. I find it’s easier for me to just scrape off a bit of it and coat her pellets in the dust lol
I realize these are all mainly food tips, which I’m not sure if you were asking for exactly--but it you have anything specific in mind feel free to ask! And of course if other birblr blogs much more experienced than I am with tiels could chime in, it would be very much appreciated!
