fair enough, but geographically speaking, florida is in the southeast of the united states and the panhandle (which is more "culturally" southern) is also a part of the state.
i'm not denying that there are demographic and cultural subtleties going on within the state itself (that i as someone who does not live there might not be aware of) but i made this post just to make some observations on a poll i currently have running where i tried to include as many regions of the entire USA as possible, and as such, i was not going to give florida its own category (especially since tumblr polls are limited to 12 options).
things i am learning about regional populations in the united states:
minnesotans feel very strongly that they are a part of the great lakes region of the midwest
people consider nevada to be a part of the southwest rather than just the west
many floridians do not consider themselves to be a part of the southeast region
overall most people like the great lakes vs great plains midwest being different categories but some do not
virginians do not like being grouped together with the rest of the southeast
people from appalachia feel very strongly about being from appalachia specifically
people from the west coast do not call it the "far west" themselves (which is fair i admit)
people from the rocky mountain region are very enthusiastic about being from the rocky mountain region
#i am not trying to start discourse as to what qualifies as ~southern~ as i am definitely not qualified for that#i'm just nosy and i want to know where people are from lol
