Late night sketch of Mozart from memory, because I love him. One would think I’d draw him more, as obsessed with him as I am. I used his own painted reference of the deformity in his left ear. Apparently he also had a little earring? It’s cute.
Mozart knew he was not particularly attractive so he made up for this by taking fastidious care of his appearance, being funny, and often placing his talent on display before himself.

Okay, I may not be an early reader librarian (my wheelhouse is more around teen readers) but I do know a title here and there so...
*Rolls up librarian sleeves*
There is the Emily Windsnap series, about a girl who becomes a mermaid when she goes into water. Really popular and has some series appeal.
There's also the Worst Witch series by Jill Murphy about an accident prone girl learning to be a witch at a witch's school.
Shannon Hale has The Princess in Black series, where a princess has an alter ego and fights monsters and bad guys. May not be exactly what you're looking for but it's worth a shot.
I will second the Rainbow Magic Fairy books. There are TONS of them and are still so popular, so it will probably keep your little reader busy for some time.

This might be a ridiculous question, but are there any chapter books for young readers (2nd grade reading level) that meet all these criteria?
Feature things like unicorns, princesses, babies, fairies, mermaids, magic, candy, kittens, etc.
WITHOUT subverting things (ie, the princesses aren't swinging swords or going on adventures--at the scariest they're having princess school jitters and then everyone is actually very kind or learns to be kind)
But...also...without the...how do I put this? Without the whole Girls Are Like This, Boys Are Like That vibe that a lot of girly-girl books have? My daughter wouldn't notice it, but that's REALLY not a lesson I want to reinforce. I also don't want ANYTHING that could get her worrying about her weight. I don't even want that idea in her head at this age.
Oh, and she's gonna be upset if the princesses can't marry other princesses. Ideally the princesses all get married. In a big polycule...thing. That's what would make her happiest.
Ways that it CAN be subverted: potty humor. If there's a Princess Poop Jokes chapter book out there, I bet I can get her to read that.
This is not the kind of book I ever wanted to read as a kid, but my daughter, despite being an extremely advanced reader for her age, doesn't want to read anything because it's all boring to her. She's interested in different things than I am, and I want to support those interests. I just...I want to do it without reinforcing garbage about gender roles. Or about cissexist ideas in general.

Two neat things that happened at work today:
Shoutout to the young girl, probably seven or eight, that came up to the adult section to get a book on womens' rights. Godspeed, kid, I admire your determination.
And to the teacher that's looking to teach a high school course on graphic novels who had no clue where to start and let me drone on and on about how amazing Sandman is.
Sometimes working Saturdays is nice.

Malenia, Blade of Miquella, who has never known defeat. Until she has.
The vision for this pose came to me in a dream and I'm glad I remembered it well enough to put it down. I had a lot of fun playing with the colors here, especially in outlining different chunks in color instead of black. Made entirely in Procreate, mainly with the Dry Ink brush, except for when I adjusted the levels in Photoshop. I'm still recovering from COVID and can't do much other than sit on the couch and doodle on my iPad but at least I can do that.
Going to be ordering prints of this magnificent lady soon.

Just a quick not friendly reminder: someone who has apologized for past mistakes, made amends for past actions, and clearly no longer holds past beliefs, is a far better person than one who digs up old dirt and uses a person's past that no longer exists against them.
