maybe i’ve just missed it, but one thing the secret shanghai fandom doesn’t acknowledge enough is the fact that even though it’s not explicitly stated (idk how many OCD diagnoses were going on in the 20s), it’s heavily implied that benedikt has OCD

to me personally, it was pretty exciting to have symptoms of OCD just casually mentioned without having to be the whole point of the book or even a particularly relevant point

In relation to the post I just reblogged and also my own post on the matter, if I didn't hate angst without a happy ending so much and I didn't love benmars so much then maybe I would be tempted to write a canon divergent fic where Benedikt did NOT say don't go. But I do. So I am not tempted. But it is a good idea.

Ok so. The Lang triplets are born. Their mother dies during childbirth which makes their father bitter toward them. Their names are Rosalind, Kathleen, and Celia. Celia is a trans woman so she is initially raised as a boy because that is a thing that tends to happen when you are a trans woman. All three of them are sent to Paris for education. Rosalind and Kathleen are sent to girl education and Celia is put in boy education because transphobia the early 1900s. Sometime while in Paris, Celia keeps trying to come out and assert her right to live as a girl. Meanwhile, Kathleen, who has always been sickly, becomes deathly ill then dies. Celia wants to be able to live as Celia when they go back to Shanghai, but the only way her father will allow her to live as a woman is to assume Kathleen’s identity. When they go back to Shanghai, they tell everyone that [Celia’s deadname] died in Paris and Celia fully takes on Kathleen’s identity.

One thing about me is I love to write fanfics but I never ever ever never ever have ideas.
