Hero & Partner Week, Day 7 - Free Day!

For the last day of Hero & Partner Week, I decided to give myself a little challenge and switch up my style! I typically draw Neo and Penelope somewhere in between the Pokémon art style and realistic cat anatomy, so I wanted to try to draw them closer to their chunky in-game models. I think it turned out pretty cute!

I'm glad that I was able to participate in Hero & Partner Week again this year. It was crazy to see just how much I've improved as an artist in such little time. It was also lovely seeing everyone else's characters and creations!

Hero & Partner Week, Day 5 - Favorite Scene

"Why do you try so hard?"

"Why…? What, you need to ask?"

"It's for someone else..."

"For someone else? Now that's cold. You and me--we're friends, right? I want to do my best because it's for you, Neo."

I wasn't in the mood to draw for "farewell" or "return", so I decided to revisit day five! The Mystery Dungeon series has loads of scenes that have stuck with me over the years, even when you just count the ones from Rescue Team. Diglett and his feet, partner faking a stomachache because they're scared of monsters only to throw hero under the bus when they do same, the team asking Pelipper if he can fly them to space to search for the world's balance … they're all fantastic, and it was hard to pick just one to draw for the prompt "favorite scene".

In the end, I chose this bit of dialogue not just because it's heartwarming but also because I imagine it's a turning point in Neo and Penelope's relationship. When they first meet, Neo and Penelope get off on the wrong foot due to a misunderstanding, and they struggle to get along afterwards because of their opposing personalities. Neo forms a team with Penelope mostly out of obligation and harbors some resentment because of it, so being told so directly that Penelope cares for her would really change her outlook on their relationship.

Hero & Partner Week, Day 5 - Betrayal

Oooof. I really bit off more than I (and my poor computer) could chew with this one, which is why Penelope is missing. I thought my laptop might explode if I added even one more layer, and there wasn't really enough room for her without shrinking down Neo and Kecleon even more. And after working on this drawing for a whole week, I just wanted to be done with it anyway (if you see a mistake... no you don't lmao). Perhaps in this version of the story, Neo must make the journey to Mt. Freeze alone?

This piece is inspired by how, in Rescue Team, Kecleon shops will start to spawn in dungeons after your team has been run out of town for their suspected involvement in the Ninetales legend. When they meet, will Kecleon betray the town and let you pass without a fight, or will they betray your team and strike you down? Either way, it's probably not going to be a happy encounter for at least one of you.

Neo and Penelope take the day off to splash about at Rub-A-Dub River! The friend areas in Red and Blue Rescue Team are one of my favorite parts of the game, and I always love to visit them when I play.

Hero & Partner Week, Day 2 - Crossover

Pokémon Crossing: the all-new, never-before-seen crossover that is totally original!

Jokes aside, I, like many others, have always thought a Pokémon x Animal Crossing game would be fantastic, and I'm always surprised that one doesn't already exist.

In this crossover/AU, Penelope is a merchant who sells her father’s berries on some days and her mother’s scarves on others, and Neo is Pokemon Square’s newest resident! Penelope would have the sisterly/uchi personality, and Neo would probably be lazy or normal, though she doesn’t fit any of the official personalities very well.

Hero & Partner Week, Day 1 - First Meeting & Shiny

This week marks the return of Neo the Eevee and Penelope the Skitty, who I haven't drawn since last year's event. I also get to introduce Orion, Penelope's little sibling, for the first time! Xe had never met another shiny Pokemon before, and xe got just a little excited upon meeting Neo, much to Penelope’s amusement and Neo's embarrassment.

A page doll for Muriel’s Toyhouse profile! ⭐️☁️🌙

This is my third attempt at drawing a page decoration for her, and it’s my favorite by far. I might decide to add some shading to her in the future, but I’m happy with it for now.

Leslie for @/Cosmitokki on Toyhouse. This is a gorgeous character, and I really enjoyed drawing them!

A Pawmot design that I made for @/ethanol on Toyhouse as part of an art trade game! This was my first time drawing any of the Pokémon in the Pawmi line, and it made me like them a lot more.

A headshot of Pluto to show the scars on her face.

Pluto finds the golden fractures along her body beautiful and an integral part of who she is, but she feels self conscious of the damage done to her face and eye. On days that she feels particularly bad about it, she tries to hide it from others by covering the right side of her face with her mane or simply turning away from people so they only see her left side.

Also, her pupil gets star-shaped when she's excited. Also also, I used far too many layers during this drawing.

Originally, Pluto was a small, handmade porcelain doll. She was shattered by her creator, and she came to life after another sculptor found her and repaired her using kintsugi. Her body is porcelain and gold, and her mane and tail tip are nebulae.

More background practice ft. lineless Muriel. I tried a new shading brush in this one, and I love how it looks! The trees are my favorite part of this piece.
