I dislike it when people act like Amy's writing has always been good and she's never been obsessed with sonic, when in cases like Battle and Advance 3 she is written to be an obsessed fangirl that pressures Sonic and makes him uncomfortable
when discussing whether amy is a poorly written character or not there are two extremes that people tend to jump to which is either "amy has never been poorly written" or "amy has always been poorly written" when in reality its more nuanced than that i think. because yeah she IS more than a sonic fangirl. shes always had separate personality traits and interests. but also. there ARE certain games that lean into "obsessed with sonic" being her entire personality which sucks so bad
i feel like theres two main types of people who deny that amy has ever been poorly written. the first group is the people who just dont wanna contribute to the needless hate that she gets. which is understandable. and the second group are that certain really annoying brand of sonamy shippers who think that theyre meant to be together so amys romantic advances on sonic are always 100 percent justified and if sonic is uncomfortable because his boundaries are being crossed he needs to just get over it and date her already. or they just dont care about amy outside of the ship so they dont mind her whole character being reduced to that because all they wanted is ship content anyway. which is Not so understandable

The way they have Amy so obsessed about losing weight in Battle is also incredibly UM when you remember that she is 12...
i mean its not completely unbelievable that a kid her age could have body image issues but her being that young definitely doesnt make it any more comfortable to play through yeah. overall the way amy is written in this game is just so . this might be some of the worst writing for her that ive ever seen in an official thing its like they heard me say i dont like that they made her crush on sonic her only personality trait in this game and then the monkeys paw curled and they made her only other personality trait obsessed with losing weight

Idk if you've already gotten to the point where it shows up or not, but there's one line from her that (probably unintentionally) implies she has an eating disorder, which is really messed up
the way i just looked up from the game to go "why the hell are they putting so much emphasis on amy wanting to lose weight" and saw this ask

this was in the new steam description for sxs generations . you dont understand ive wanted shadows black arms dna to be actually acknowledged and used for so long . ever since i had my brain chemistry permanently altered by learning about the full details of shadows backstory when i was in middle school ive been like Well where are his sick ass alien powers ??!?!?!?!?!?!?! and i used to read the shadow fall arc of sonic universe over and over again just for every scrap of that sort of content i could get. also its extra cool that they seem to be working shadows unique abilities into the gameplay because a lot of games before this dont really do that and just have shadow be a sonic reskin which i understand Why they would do that but you know. shadow the hedgehog (2005) enjoyers this is OUR FUCKING YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
