Owen here confirms most of what we've already suspected about tempering - how it stagnates the aether of the soul and taints it towards a particular element.

Have we ever seen this? Apart from sin eaters and voidsent, which are different, I can't think of an example of the tempered physically changing. Perhaps some of the thralls of the Warring Triad, like in this example, but not any of our "classic" primals, for lack of a better term.

Memory transference might be the key to restoring the tempered, but we infamously couldn't figure that out on the First. Thankfully, the Source has ancient Allagan computers! With a little help from Cid and the Ironworks, we should be able to run simulations of the magic to crack this problem.

I'm off to Ishgard to secure a supply of ceruleum, and who should I run into but Aymeric! It is lovely to see him, but more importantly, he pledges his full support for finding a cure for tempering, and offers me all the ceruleum an airship can haul!

First we have to imbue Angelo with the memory macigk, so Y'shtola and Alphinaud channel their aether into G'raha.

Who in turn enhances Angelo.

G'raha and Alisaie then take Ga Bu to a quiet room so Alisaie can focus while she performs the spell.

in general, the games had these core appeals -competitive battles can now be these dramatic flashy affairs with 3D models and stylish attacks (this is most likely the reason the games came into existence, a demand for such a thing to be possible) -enabling players to have nice quality of life features that make playing through the mainline games smoother and quite literally faster -rather than simply seeing two sprites, a 3D model and animations full of character make each pokemon feel more alive, including those of the player -mini games

for their context, the games are still pretty awesome, continuing to provide players those QoL benefits to this day. players today are just on the whole less likely to have all the tech laying around to accomplish this synergistic experience.

now let's say you happen to fall into one of the following groups: -a N64 owning kid who got the game but never player any other pokemon game -a N64 owning kid who got the game but doesn't own a transfer pak -a N64 owning kid who got the game and a transfer pak but is gated by how finicky the transfer pak is and only owns one controller so finds the transfer pak so difficult to use they get discouraged from using it and then lose their game boy games in a bus anyway (there are people out there like this i'd know) -someone playing one of the games on Nintendo Switch -someone playing the games on emulator and not being able/willing to finagle simulating the transfer pak -someone who is interested in this game and wants to play it using one of the possible methods but cant afford to buy an N64 an expensive N64 game an expensive Game Boy game a transfer pak multiple N64 controllers and maybe a Game Boy just to play old pokemon games 20% more funnerer

you are left with. less of an experience. see, while the mini games are just as fun as ever without a transfer pak, everything else… well, let's just say i think the single player modes of these games can be kind of unfair bullshit, and let's just say that the rental pokemon you're allowed to use are suboptimal to deal with this bullshit. personally i would never recommend anyone even attempt to play these games with rentals. the cups may have their annoyances, but overcoming them is so much more satisfying when you're using pokemon you raised yourself. even using the optimal rental pokemon, it'll be a phyrric victory as each loss saps your soul and each win feels unearned due to how much you depended on luck. "beat R2 with rentals" isn't a fun challenge it's a method of unethical torture. spare yourself the suffering and if you can't play these games as a companion to your playthrough of a real cartridge gen 1 or 2 game, don't bother outside of the mini games.

Teardown    What’s this game about, you ask? It’s in the name - tearing everything down! Playing as a legally-questionable demolitionist, the player is hired to destroy buildings (and sometimes steal stuff from the rubble), then make a hasty getaway before police arrive. There are plenty of tools of destruction unlocked over the course of the game, from the reasonable (sledgehammers, welding torches, and so on) to the overkill (dynamite and other explosives, and even a shotgun). Use the tools of the trade to strategically - or randomly - knock out the load-bearing supports and watch as the entire mansion, shopping centre, docks, or whatever you’re demolishing crashes down and shatters into millions of little voxel bits. The modding community really cranks up the destruction to a whole new level: slice entire cities in half with a flick of the mouse, punch whale-sized holes through skyscrapers with giant cannons, or go full Majora’s Mask and flatten the whole place by bringing down the moon.
