Okay so is Hana really going to end up with the pianist guy instead of So Mun??? Like- I really wanted them to end up together since season 1 and now my ship has literally drowned T-T But then again Hana looks really happy with her first love so- I guess I should just accept their relationship and move on from my ship as it is never going to sail. And So Mun doesn't really seem to care so- *sobs* anyways uhm- I'm just going to you know- kill the writer maybe : )

Papa Hunter may not be the greatest of cooks around, but he knows backwards and forwards what recipes makes the Junior Hunters feel better. The right chicken soup with just enough thyme when they're sick. The uj cake is not too overwhelming and doesn't have the nuts that Hunter Junior #3 doesn't like for cozy winter days at home. The special birthday pancakes. The mashed potatoes that are somehow better than anyone else's at holidays. The special secret noodle dish that they only have when Cyare isn't around that Crosshair also loves, but will never admit (Hunter Junior #2 is the only one with this knowledge and is sworn to secrecy). And finally the cinnamon toast he always makes when someone has a bad day or a booboo or just needs a little mood boost. Even Auntie likes it and it's the closest she gets to liking Hunter and even appreciates that he never remarks on it, just quietly makes it when he senses she needs it. (Sorry if that last one is too much, it just makes me sad that she dislikes Hunter so hard when I'm sure he's trying to make up for bad decisions and regrets of the past. Do I want everyone to be friends and have a happy ending? Darn tooting. But feel free to ignore it.)

His recipes are simple and unfussy but they always turn out juuuuuuuust right and hit the spot, especially for his little batch.

OKAY FIRST OFF I NEED TO SAY. I absolutely love your takes, how well you know these characters and how you just nail it every time. It shows a lot of thought and effort put into my little universe (bless your sweet soul I’m so sorry XD) and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Like literally I’m blown away. You just understand the dynamics so well and it gives me some comfort, knowing that my stuff must make sense in some capacity; too often I feel like I struggle to articulate myself and it’s a real burden for me. So anyway I just wanted to say thank you.

ALSO it’s crazy to me, that even though I haven’t openly named all the girls yet (because I’m still deciding on some names XD) I’ve got all their personalities down, and it’s so wild to me that you just inherently know their personalities despite me having provided the bare minimal. (Ex: Hunter Junior #2 being the secret bearer which is ACCURATE because Nessa is a good sweet girl. Absolutely precious. And Hunter Junior #3 being picky (Raya is a delightful handful XD) it just blows my mind. You are awesome.

NOW ONTO THE ASK THAT I LOVE WITH ALL MY HEART.

Yes Hunter is a subpar cook BUT as you said, he knows the fan favorites down to a tee. The A+ thyme chicken soup when they’re sick. The perfectly mellow Uj cake.

ALSO THE SUPER SECRET NOODLE DISH WHICH FACILITATES THEIR NOODLE SHOP STARTUP. IT WAS HUNTER’S OBSCURE RECIPE EVERYBODY. GIVE IT UP.

AND MY FAVORITE FAVORITE BIT WITH AUNTIE.

Please do not be sorry for this!! As I said I adore the depth you go into; it feels like my own thoughts broadcasted back at me and it’s such a comfort and delight.

Although it made me SAD in the best way. Yes Delana has a lot of hard feelings towards Hunter and yes he is trying so hard to make amends for his past regrets. And while they’ll never have a fully-fledged relationship there is some kindredness between them that is very rich.

Hunter delivers some of his famous cinnamon toast to a certain new mama after she’s just had Asher. :)) Scores some points with Cross there.

Noodle Shop - June 4th

The noodle shop tries to sell breakfast food--there's a dish that's noodles, parmesan, and a fried egg that's gained some popularity. Popular given how few people ever come this early.

But when he walks in and sits down across the table from me, he orders a coke, a water, and a bowl of ramen. The waiter doesn't bat an eye, but I know it must be frustrating to be serving ramen at 9 in the morning. One of the problems with running a 24-hour noodle house, though, in this city.

"I'm sorry I'm late," he says, straightening his posture in his chair. He's always later then I am, or rather I'm early. He doesn't always apologize, though. "It's just been a very glum week."

I ask him what's been going on, and for a minute he shakes his head, dissembles.

"I can't get anything done," he says at last, miserably. "Every thing I try to do, it just feels so meaningless. I'll start a story, or a poem, or a song, or reading a book--or even watching a movie! And it just rolls off me. And I'm back in the dark again, and things keep getting worse and worse, and it feels like I don't have enough of whatever the human spark is to fight my way out."

He hates that life is a fight, he hates that he has to struggle. I don't blame him: I think we all feel that to some degree.

"There's a point I'm afraid of," he begins, then stops to note "--you know when you're caught outside and it's raining? And you're getting soaked, and it feels awful, but then suddenly your hair has absorbed enough water that it droops, and all this water starts pouring down your face? And that's the moment you REALLY feel soaked? I feel like I'm out in the rain, and keep getting wetter and wetter and more miserable. Someday soon, my hair will saturate--so to speak--and then life will become really intolerable. I don't know what I'll do, then. I don't know what I'm doing now."

I listen and I nod my head, I wait patiently when his ramen comes for him to slurp some broth and continue his thought. But he sits, sullen, and let's the sun beat down on him through the greasy windows. He downs his coke in a single gulp. His eyes are glassy.

"I'm just tired," he says. I tell him I know, I tell him that things can change, and good times sneak up on you just as much as bad ones. I see him try to believe me because it is polite to do so. But mostly we sit in silence.

Noodle Shop

Shot of a very typical scene in front of Kisoba Suzuichi noodle shop near Yokohama Station’s Sotetsu Line exit. Located right across from the police box (a popular meeting point for the station’s west exit), this was one of the very first noodle shops I ever visited after arriving in Japan back in the 80s.

Very little has changed around the shop since they opened up in 1971 except for the fashion choices of younger people. Otherwise, this scene is quite reminiscent of the Showa Era for me.

This is one of those shops where you order your food and eat it right there on the street while standing (called “tachikui/立ち食い” in Japanese). Most customer tend to be men, from well-dressed office workers in their suits to blue-collar workers to students can be seen grabbing a steamy hot bowl of noodles.

You place your order via a vending machine freeing up the staff to focus on filling orders, which can often be done within less than 20 seconds! There are about 20 different menu items to choose from including various toppings with either udon noodles or soba noodles, with the  most popular dish being tempura soba, which cost only 430 yen (approx. USD $3.00).

Ox 9 Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles, 36456 Fremont Blvd, Fremont (Centerville), CA 94536

What’s better on a cold evening, than a bowl of hot, steaming noodle soup – with hand-pulled noodles. Ox 9, which was founded in China in 2012, serves Lanzhou style noodles at multiple locations in the Bay Area. The Fremont one opened in Alder Plaza last year. In 2018, it was Michelin recommended according to what they had on the wall.

When you walk in you’ll see a huge (fake) bowl of Lanzhou noodle soup and the noodles move! Cute.

Noodle soups start at $12.99 and there are a variety of options – beef, lamb, pork, vegetable. There are six kinds of hand-pulled noodles to choose from (thin to thick). You can customize each bowl with extra noodles, extra sauces, soybean paste, extra pickles, etc.

Dry noodles, knife-cut noodles, cold appetizers, buns, Chinese burgers, desserts, and Chinese beer and sodas are available. Complimentary hot tea was provided. We had a choice between tea or water.

We ran into some family members here and they ordered for me, in Chinese, so I’m not sure if I got the widest noodle or the second to the widest noodle. Portions were generous. I don’t think any of us finished the noodle soup.

Stewed Lamb Noodle w/ wide, flat noodles ($14.99): The clear broth with thinly sliced radish slices, bok choy, and fresh herbs, was light with no spices – a little bland but adding hot sauce helped. The lamb was in small cubes. It was tender but totally plain. I wouldn’t get it again. The noodles were wide and chewy. It was good but I wanted a more flavorful broth and more flavorful lamb.

The dining room looked clean and nice – not fancy but not a hole in the wall either. They put some effort into the décor to make it look modern and inviting. The bowls even say Ox 9.
