I think because people often only see the finished paintings in all its detail, intricacy and completion that they often never realise that they spark from these rough, 5 minute concept scribbles in a sketchbook. The whole process from sketch to finish is a journey in itself!
My first art book, ‘The Art of Kelogsloops’ is out now! It shares the artistic journey from my earliest drawings, to the paintings I make today. The book includes painting tutorials, art tips, advice on art style & an in-depth insight into how I make paintings from sketch, to finish.
If you'd like to check it out, you can find more info here: The Artbook
So for the current chapter on Caelum Sky, I've been painting bigger backgrounds to help speed up production. This room, which we'll spend some time in, (and don't mind the jam, i'm sure it's fine) I used Floorplanner.com to design a room, then use some screenshots as a basis for painting, like so:
It's also been nice to put in less realistic lighting and i've enjoyed figuring out something fun and spooky.
This background alone got about 35 uses in chapter 10. They're not the only things I use as a background, I usually will do bigger shots one way, and then paint in the background fully if we twist or look elsewhere. But they've been a lifesaver. (this basement one wasn't designed in floorplanner)
For this one I found a great book brush that's saved me probably hours of drawing many tiny rectangles. Thought it might be interesting to folks!
just started working on my new artwork. It will be one more fanart in my style. you will see finished painting tomorrow!
(but in my opinion, style in this peace is very different from the previous. hope, it's cause I'm trying to do my artworks better and better every time)
A gift to a friend of mine I met in the server. I took WAY WAY TOO LONG for what it was but I'm pretty happy with the result.
Its essentially if Siffrin was like a cowboy/western/in a spaghetti western
(uh actually, what is a "spaghetti" western even???)
My friend's copy is slightly different from this one, but you wouldn't know all the changes unless you own it. So! Feel free to use this one.
I'll leave behind a little of my work process below the cut when making cruddy concept art and the like (and funny 'MURICA Sif)
Since physically working on the tablet I have makes me unable to really see color, when I upload it back into my computer and then turn on the colors again, you can get art that looks wildly different than what was intended.
In this case, I have accidentally (and somewhat ironically) created an American Sif without even knowing. As a note, I only have the colors red, blue and gray available on my tablet :>
And here is the less than flattering but much needed cruddy doodle section of my brain storming process.
