Autistic Vash HC’s

I’ve been writing knives stuff so I wanted to write Vash stuff too to compensate <33

This is like college au btw

(Written by an autistic writer)

-Vash doesn’t get super overwhelmed by noise- at least he doesn’t show it. He gets frequent headaches and doesn’t want to be a bother or be left out, so he stays. Even if it hurts

-knives ends up dragging him away

-when you get headaches though, or get overwhelmed, best believe he doesn’t care if he’s left out at all, his ‘friend’ needs to be somewhere quiet asap!!

-he’ll sit outside in silence w you, much like knives in this matter. But he’ll be more direct, “how do you feel?” And “are you ok? Is there any way I can help?”

-god the way he looks so worried for you 😭 <333

-you guys have a shared study playlist (he has a private one w songs he thinks you’ll like and asks Meryl or knives on if he should add them bc he wants you to like them)

-he’s got unhealthy snacks for u, and is willing to share if you doodle something cute on his notes

(If you’re bold enough to draw a heart he’ll be thinking about it for DAYSSSSS)

-he tells knives about you when getting ready for the day (when knives is checking the pantry + fridge and when Vash is tying his boots)

-you’re both oblivious idiots totally in love

-you get mistaked as a couple w how sweet you two are- giggling, laughing, teasing, but you both turn red at this, adamantly refusing.. he’d never like you, right?

-he’s such a nerd and you love him for it and when u tell him stuff he’ll listen intently. You both admire each other’s passion

-he offers you his hand jokingly up the stairs and you take it, nervously. “Uh, I was uh- joking- uh-“

“Oh! Sorry-“

“I don’t mind though! Ahem; let the valiant gentleman escort you!”

"MASKING KING!!!!!! ok joke aside one of his biggest things is that he's super scared that if anyone gets too close to him they'll notice he's not perfect/has a 'secret darkness' (that's literally just a guy) and overall a lot of his storyline is a strong parallel for being neurodivergent and becoming more comfortable with accepting it. he's also super strict and hard on himself for any sort of failure that isn't in line with what's socially appropriate but at the same time he doesn't always have a good grasp on what that is which is how you get stuff like him blowing up a forest to try and impress someone. it also runs in his family bc his brother is autistic as hell too."

Sherlock -

"God, where do I start? I mean what Holmes adaptation, even if he's not the main character, would this be if he were not autistic coded? And our combo of autism and ADHD is absolute perfection, all tied up with a pretty, excitable face. Hit him with the crime hyperfixation and do not make him wear socks."

Apollo -

"Not canonically autistic but he has ZERO volume control plus he scripts/repeats stuff (“I’M FINE!!!”), sometimes mimics other people’s speech patterns (like replying “ja” to Klavier), sensitive to loud noises (stayed backstage at a concert cuz it was too loud) and bright lights (complained about the stage lights being too bright at the same concert + screamed when opening the hatch to the bright stage at magic show), and has been really into space since he was a kid, which could definitely be a hyperfixation (not to mention how he read every single one of Phoenix’s old case files back when he admired him). Plus he’s a little TOO normal, to the point where it circles back around to making him the odd one out, which is absolutely what masking feels like for me. Even when he tries to be fun and weird he gets strange looks/made fun of for not being weird in the right way. The list of autism symptoms is just a checklist for him at this point."

Heiji -

"90% of the cast in detective conan is autistic but heiji is the most autistic of them all."

"Another alien who is so excited to dance with everyone that he does not understand that his intended purpose of inviting people to dance via water communication is brainwashing them into dancing and is causing extreme chaos. He is extremely soft spoken and try, finding it difficult to begin conversations and fidgeting."

"speaking specifically about the first season but he was the "explains everything so the audience knows whats happening" guy. he was pretty antisocial (not sure if thats just how he was or if he lived alone [which was fucked up cause he was 11]) . im trying to think of more but my brain goes hghghhhggggh im just a big fan of him."

"Due to a terrible curse he has lived his whole life without several body parts including his eyes and ears. Because of this he is often overstimulated and awkward in new situations (when he doesn't do what he does best, killing monsters and samurai with his sword arms) He can't say or express much, and often comes off as strange and creepy, but he is actually a cutie patootie full of emotions, has a big heart, a keen brain, endless inner strength and loves the people close to him! This adorable, cursed, demon slaying boy deserves everything!"

Kei -

"He has the tbh face. Also he canonically has sensory issues and gets sensory overload. He constantly wears earbuds. He has an extremely rigid sense of morality and considers himself a savior figure. He has a hard time relating to other people and is a bit awkward in his interactions."

Imagine college au vash and you just kinda coming to the stalemate of “I don’t think they like me and I’m lowk too tired to do anything besides just slowly inch into their arms” so you’re both having your usual movie nights that slowly progressed into Milly Meryl and Wolfwood doing their thing and your thigh barely touching Vash’s

You can hear his breath stuttering if you listen closely enough, hand almost skimming his 0///0

Months later you watch movies alone with him, your legs draped over his as you check your phone notifications and he’s like: “wait wait this is the good part!” And quotes the scene word for word to your amusement

It’s cute, really. You both nerd out together, have greasy takeout that probably has more sodium than you should be having but indulging in sweet moments like this? Where you’re in his company and enjoying the all too charming grins and fleeting touches, coupled with as you try to keep it down (lest his brother get pissed off since you’ve interrupted his brooding). Vash is a wonderful friend who you find plenty easy to talk to and relate to- when his depression fucking slams him you’re one of the people he trusts. When he cannot get up you’re one of the people he (begrudgingly) texts when he doesn’t want Nai’s help (to his frustrations- Nai has become more acquainted with you due to this).

Or (because he’s AUDHD) imagine his executive dysfunction hitting him in the face and he’s like lowk dying

You bring him food and good company if he needs it. And sometimes he’s nonverbal as he gestures you in, forcing himself to speak until you can tell he’s really straining himself and just super fucking exhausted, allowing him to pick a movie as you set up the food on the coffee table (open takeout containers and grab napkins + utensils)

Your legs curled into criss cross applesauce or propped against the now half empty containers, glancing over to him every now and then to check on him. He’s closed off, sometimes his knees are tucked to his chest or he’s also sitting criss crossed, arms against his knees as the fatigue he harbors becomes more apparent.

He’s vulnerable like this. And to be honest? He never thought he’d be reaching out to anyone like this. But you’re so comforting, so sweet about how you approach it because you understand. You get it. And you’re you and-

He exhales once more.

Maybe one night he ends up resting his head on your shoulder, exhaustion seeping through him as he doesn’t fully process what he’s just done. Let his guard down, possibly pushed your boundaries- but all you do is momentarily tense up and tentatively rest your head over his, basking in his company once more (despite your nervousness. I’m projecting and making reader touch starved in this too)

And then it doesn’t happen for a bit. But then one of you initiates it again. And it’s a silent, unspoken thing asking for comfort- you don’t assume it’s romantic in nature, but you each just tend to flock to one another in times like these. He’s so comforting to be around- understanding yet solemn eyes, empathetic gaze and when he does speak, he knows. He gets it. And you’re the same way to him.

It’s with this that you start to fall for the guy with the cool designs on his pants- he painted them himself! The guy with the brightest smile you know and the kindest heart, who can probably recite most Star Wars movies and has rebuilt the Lego Death Star on multiple occasions because it manages to roll off of where he keeps it (he wants to hang it up on his ceiling but Nai is hesitant about putting more holes in the apartment walls/ceiling). The guy who you learn to rest on after a hard day, oftentimes splurging a tiny bit on something sweet for you to share, even if it hurts your wallet a small bit seeing his eyes light up after a long day makes it plenty worth it.

He makes you feel on a constant high and you can be yourself truly around him, unabashedly and unapologetically rambling about your interests and viewpoints to one another for hours on end.

And when times are hard?

You’ll find your way to him. And he will do the same.

I WEEP over this flashback. They're introducing the plant to their child not as something weird or alien, but pretty. Not as a thing, but a person who's working, who's not just property of the community but a crucial member of it. In the next panels, the mother prompts her child to thank the plant in a way that looks both like a hyper-respectful Japanese bow and Christian prayer.

She smiled. She smiled at a child smiling at her. She smiled at a child who was alive because of her. She smiled at the people who loved her and prayed to her and thanked her. She treasured them enough to remember their smiles even after being fused into the horrendous amalgamation in the Ark.

LOOK at that. Knives himself knows he's at risk of losing his sense of self inside that mass, and Chronica later says that plants don't innately have an individual sense of self to begin with. Yet one of those plants remembered some of the humans she once supported fondly enough to cling to that memory, no matter what; or, perhaps, that memory was so beloved by every other plant that saw it that they all kept it, all shared it and held it close to their hearts, all that love battering against Knives' shaky mental walls of rage and hatred and fear.

[ID: A chaotic double-page spread from Trigun Maximum. The first four panels show a quick sequence of Knives falling to his knees and gasping as he clutches at his face, his eyes widening desperately. I really think, at the end of the day, the plants don't necessarily mind being relied on as producers, because I think they love life and creation. They've held onto all of these faces, all these people who were alive because of them. Short of the horror of the Last Runs, maybe they take pride in what they do. Maybe seeing other lives flourish from theirs makes them happy. We don't know for sure, but for all the body horror in their imagery, they are still, ultimately, evocative of angels. And they're reaching out to Knives with enough love for humanity to fracture the walls in his mind that he's put up against the reality of what the Big Fall was, against remembering that he did once love humans, and then he killed tens of millions of them. Being forced to see humans as Vash and the other plants do--as individuals, as living things, as people--is literally tearing him apart. God this page is a real artistic flex from Nightow, both in terms of panel composition and just thumbing his nose at mangaka that draw the same three faces forever
