When the White Star liner RMS Celtic wrecked in 1928, the ship was evacuated, but the cat, Emily, refused to leave. She and her kittens stayed onboard for a few days, being fed on "fish, cream, and condensed milk" until they could be taken ashore. Emily's plight managed to make the New York Times.
