Echo was so good but the detail that makes me go absolutely insane is the fact that Maya’s family spent 20 years actively signing on the off chance that she would come back home meanwhile Kingpin couldn’t even be bothered to learn it for his so called “niece.” Maya’s family literally love her so much like

Can we take a second to appreciate the fact that every single person in Maya’s family from home took the time to work and learn ASL to communicate with her.

Even today many deaf children born into hearing families have to struggle with communication because their families don’t learn to communicate in their language. Being isolated from conversations and that bonding element is a really big deal for many kids.

The first few minutes of Echo show that the adults in her life are trying to practice signing while she isn’t even around!!!

Then looking at her relationship with Fisk and how he communicates with her is so vastly different. He knew her for YEARS and saw her often enough to be “uncle” and to pick her up from school. Yet he still didn’t learn or use ANY sign until he was begging her for his life!

Something important in Echo that stood out to me was that Maya's family kept up with American Sign Language (ASL) after 20 years of never seeing her, while Fisk never learned it. He knew a few words, but not the whole language.

Wilson Fisk is terrifying.

obviously he is, he's a villain, but I never felt scared for someone interacting with Fisk like I was while watching Maya interact with him in Echo.

He says he loves her, he says they only can trust each other. That nobody loves her like he does.

But then he doesn't learn ASL to speak to her, instead he spends so much money getting a translator who he ends up killing. And then in super high tech technology as an eye contact so Maya can understand him.

He does small things to show his "love" but I see them as calculated and honestly, not genuine at all, because he knows what he has to do to get her to believe that he truly cares and loves her. but he breaks that illusion by not doing the simplest, most obvious act of love, learning to speak to Maya. Learning ASL.

Her whole family knows ASL. and can speak ASL even after 20 years of not seeing her, even if some of their skills are rusty, they still do. and it speaks volumes.

Then when she goes back home, to her town and family, he still dares to want her back, like "come with me, these people aren't important, they'll never understand you like I do."

BITCH THEY'RE HER FAMILY THAT YOU REMOVED HER FROM WHEN SHE WAS IN PAIN AND IN PIECES YOU MANIPULATOR!!!!

seeing initial reactions to echo being "skippable, doesn't advance the mcu's overall plot" is just....like it doesn't compute in my brain. why do you want every single show to connect to every single show??? why don't you want new interesting stories?? i don't want everything to reference a thing that references a thing that references a thing. i want cool new stories i've never heard before. like you really watched a show about a deaf disabled indigenous woman involved in a fucking crime syndicate and said "meh" cuz like tom hiddleston or someone didn't show up and make some quip about saving the multiverse???? i fully do not get it and never will. like i love a good crossover when it's earned but i don't need every single thing to be connected to ten other things

kind of fucked up how there is this really cool show about a disabled native American woman kicking ass and the thing people are talking about in the tag is the white dude that appears in one scene

something about clarisse & ares and shiv & logan roy and leia & anakin and maya & wilson fisk and that quote “my father is the worst person in the world, and I am his favourite daughter” daughters know this tale as old as time and god it kills me

I don't know; it feels very odd that some people's first concerns about Echo are about Daredevil. It's strange that some perceptions of how good the show is depend solely on Matt Murdock's appearances. That show is by no means about him.
