does alex ever get to hang out with the superpets in the cool aunt kara au?
Kiiiiiind of....
...
Itwas hard, sometimes. For Kara to remember that Alex Danvers was justa kid.
Itso rarely occurred to Kara, becauseAlex made it so easy to forget. Alex shrugged off the extraordinary, scowled in the face of danger, and rose to any and every occasion theuniverse saw fit to throw at her. Honestly, Kara was fortunate, that the humans in her life were so resilient and...utterlydetermined to keeppace with her and Clark.
Butevery now and again, something would come along, and Kara would bereminded.
ThatAlex was just a kid.
Ahuman kid.
Karasighed, leaning forward in her chair to rest her elbow on her desk.Is this what Bruce felt like, each time he cycled through a newsidekick? Rao. How didhe do it?
Shefound her gaze drifting towards the collection of photos she keptaround her office—a fair number of them framed, but most justpinned up on whatever surface was available. Perry described theassemblage as 'obscenely sentimental' but also 'to be expected.' Catcalled it 'an eyesore.'
(Clarkhad bought her one of those digital photo frames, in the hopes thatit might...cut down...on the sheer amount of pictures Kara hadcluttering up her office, but. Kara liked having hard copies. Likedthe way the corners creased, and the edges went yellow with age.)
Hewas the one who showed up in most of the photos (which, now that Karawas thinking about it, was probably why he was trying to get her toditch the collage) with Alex not too far behind. The two of themsmiled at barbecues and school plays, camping trips and field trips.Sometimes together, sometimes not.
Andthen there were the other photos—the ones Kara couldn't keep at thePlanet, but insteadstashed at the farm, or the Fortress. Photos of game nights with theGreen Lanterns, dinner with the Doom Patrol.
Andthe Danvers just fit right in.
You'dnever know that Clarkcould stop a runaway train with his bare hands, and that Alexcouldn't.
Karasighed again. Just as it wasn't often that Kara had to recognizeAlex's limitations, it also wasn't often that Kara had toactually be the adult in the situation. In spite of the factthat she quite often, quite literally, was.
Shereached for the phone, and dialed the familiar number.
“Eliza?...Yeah, just wondering if there was a good time for me to stopby...”
Elizainsisted that 'any time was fine,' and so it was that Kara foundherself touching down in the wooded foothills of Midvale later thatsame day. It was late in Metropolis, but here, it was only justgetting dark, the sun having recently sunk below the distant, snowypeaks.
“She'supstairs, watching a movie, I think,” Eliza told Kara when shearrived. After, of course, offering her a towering plate ofstill-warm leftovers from dinner.
Whichis how Kara ended up arriving to have a Serious Discussion with amouth full of mashed potatoes.
(Agood ice-breaker, she privately reasoned.)
“Mmf,”she said, by way of greeting, when she reached the top of the stairsand found Alex lounging on the couch in the living room.
“Ugh,”Alex groaned, turning to buryher face in a pillow. It was something of an awkward movement, as shehad to mind her left arm, which was essentially pinned to her side, thanks to the sling.
Karafinished chewing before remarking, with a light, albeit somewhatsarcastic tone, “Hey. Good to see you too.”
Alexsaid nothing to that, still face down on the pillow. Kara took a seatin the adjacent armchair, debating whether or not to take anotherbite of potatoes. They were verygood. But...she'd come here to talk, first and foremost.
Inthe end, Kara was able to fit in a few more bites before Alex finallysat up, looking...irritated, but a bit resigned.
“Iknow why you're here,” she muttered.
Karahummed.
“Mmm.Bet you don't.”
“You'regoing to tell me we can't hang out anymore, because...” she trailedoff, but a quick glance down at her injured arm made it clear whatshe was referring to. “Or, like. That you...can't trust me withsuperhero stuff anymore. Because of what happened.”
“Goodguess, but. Wrong.” Kara told her around a mouth full of potato.
“Wrong?”
“I'mhere to apologize,” Kara said simply, before (somewhat reluctantly)setting her plate on the coffee table. It was time to get Serious.“What happened was my fault,Alex.”
Alexfrowned.
“But...”she started, eyes narrowing as she thought through Kara's statement.“I'm the one—”
“Whowas just doing what I'd asked,” Kara interrupted, “and, Ishouldn't have asked it of you.”
Alexgroaned again, and rolled her eyes.
“See,you ARE here to tell me you can't trust me with this stuff. I knewit.”
Karashook her head, laughing lightly. “Alex. I'm here to tell you thatmaybe, from now on, I ask Clarkto watch Krypto. That's all.”
Alexhuffed, and flopped back against the couch.
“Iwas handling it,” she argued under her breath, “I can handlethat stuff.”
Karawas quiet for a moment. On the one hand, Alex was...somewhat correct. She'd been handlingthe dog watching just fine. And, if the Phorians had picked any otherday to host their Phoron Festival, (which required the playing of aninstrument that could only be described as a bagpipe gone wrong, andthe tones of which made Kara'shead spin, so she couldn't begin to imagine what it did to the poorKryptonian canine) then they wouldn't even be havingthis conversation.
But,as it was, the Phorians held their festival, played theirnot-bagpipes, Krypto went berserk, and Alex had done her best to deal with it.
And had wound up with a broken arm.
“DidI ever tell you about the time,” Kara said suddenly, realizingwhere she had to steer this conversation, in order to both reassureAlex, but also get her to understand where she was coming from, “thatBane snapped Bruce in half?”
Alexblinked slowly.
“Uh...what?”
“Brokehis spine. Very gruesome,” Kara waved vaguely, belated realizingthat maybe...just maybe, the grizzly tale of Bruce's beatingat the hands of Bane was not a great story to share with athirteen year old. But she had a point. “It's not often thatBruce encounters something...or someone...that he can't beat. But it does happen. And when it does...” now it was Kara'sturn to huff. “He's an idiot about it.”
Alextried to hide her knowing smirk. Kara wasn't offended—she knewthat everyone knew about her ongoing irritation with Mr.Wayne.
“Hedoesn't ask for help, and he doesn't delegate, and he doesn't admitthat he's in over his head,” Kara explained, aware that her tonewas clipped. That tended to occur, when she was discussing Bruce.“And that's how you end up in a bat-body-cast.” She took adeep breath, reminding herself that she had not flown all theway out here to vent about her coworker. “Admitting you need help,or that maybe there's someone better suited for the job doesn't makeyou weak, it makes you smart,” she explained. “It makesyou a Robin. As opposed to a Batman.”
Alexnodded slowly. “And...I should...”
“Aspireto be a Robin, yes,” Kara's nod was quick and sharp. “Nevera Batman. Promise me, you won't become a Batman.”
Alexlaughed. “Promise.”
“ThankRao,” Kara sighed dramatically, before frowning. “Wait. Don'tbecome a Robin either. Your parents would kill me.”
“Iwon't,” Alex hastily reassured her, wrinkling her nose in feigneddisgust. “They all have to wear those green tights.”
“Andthe goofy mask.”
“No,no. The mask is cool.”
“What?No way.”
“Uh,yeah way.”
“Nextyou'll be telling me that cowls and utility belts arecool.”
“...Well...”
“Alex,no.”

All of the autumnal asks!! Go for it xD
lantern - how did you meet your best friend? What were your first impressions of each other?
In high school but you drift away from high school friends after graduation.
frost - if you could give some advice to your younger self, what would you say?
Fuck this shit I’m out. No really, just fuck it all. Slam that ass whip with your biology book and break her nose. She won’t be pushing anyone else down the flag of stairs.
maple - is there a hobby / skill that you’ve always wanted to try but never did?
Not really.
harvest - what fictional character do you most identify with? Why?
Ginoza Nobuchika. I’m basically the female version of Gino.
fireside - if you had your dream wardrobe, what would it look like?
Hard to say but I guess it would mostly be comfy jeans with comfy sweaters cause Canadian climate is the shit.
cider - a food that you disliked as a child but now enjoy?
Cream corn and still dislike it. It taste good though but I can’t digest it at all which is why I don’t like it.
amber - share an unpopular opinion that you may have.
I hate my face. There’s not a thing about it that I like. I find my nose too big for my face. I have crooked teeth which makes my mouth crooked. My eyes are bleh and I have a wide forehead but apparently it’s a crime to tell people that I find my face ugly.
fog - how well do you think you’d do in a zombie apocalypse scenario?
I’d die within the first 24 hours. I’m smart enough to survive but if I’m alone, physically I wouldn’t stand a chance. I physically weak and I have a very weak immune system.
jack-o-lantern - if you could look like any celebrity, who would you choose?
I wouldn’t choose anyone. I don’t want to be liked because I look like a celebrity.
spice - have you ever encountered a house that you believed to be haunted?
I lived in one for 13 years XD.
orchard - share one thing that you’d like to happen this autumn.
To catch that kitten that’s under my shed who seems to have been abandoned by it’s mommy.
crow - which school subject do you wish you had an aptitude for?
I have an aptitude for any subject if I try but I’m lazy and I don’t try often. But I guess I’d have to choose French because it’s the subject I have most difficulty in due to my dyslexia.
bonfire - describe your dream house.
My dream house wouldn’t be extremely huge but it would be ever so rustic. I love the look of natural wood and delicate mouldings but not anything fancy. I would have so many space saving storages. I’d have a gorgeous staircase made out of maple wood. All the baseboards and window trimmings would be stained in a dark brown reddish colour instead of plain old white. I’d have a wrap around porch and don’t forget that beautiful stone fireplace in the living room. And the kitchen would be all natural wood with stone back splash. So rustic, it would be crazy and cozy :3.
cinnamon - if you had to live in a time period different than the present, which would you choose and where?
I wouldn’t choose another time period. I’m a metis woman. I’d have to be crazy to want to live in another time period where my voice meant nothing and my race would condemn me to death.
cobweb - (if you’ve graduated) do you miss high school?
Nope.
cranberry - what’s one physical feature that you get complimented on?
My hair.
maize - share the weirdest encounter you’ve had with a stranger on the street.
None. I live in a very boring town.
quilt - how do you take your tea (or coffee)?
My coffee is 3 sugars and 3 creams. Tea is just 1 sugar and that’s it.
pumpkin - do you think that humans are inherently good or bad?
Depends on the individual. There are some terrible humans and some amazing ones.
moonlit - are you a neat or messy person? Is your room / house orderly?
I hate having my room messy. As of right now since my basement is in the process of renovations, my space is quite messy but it will be beautiful soon :D
flannel - have you ever gone on a bad date?
I’m the definition of a bad date. I can’t get a decent normal date in this town XD.
cocoa - if you could have any type of hair, what colour and cut would you have?
I’d like to have thicker hair with a bit more body. My hair is thin and flat.
ghost - is there someone that you miss having in your life?
Nope.

Shadows of memory (Part 4)
The queen had found enough dry wood to start a fire which Sav and Kieri were drawn too, the light and warmth more remembered then felt. Their spirits were heavy as they sat and she told them how wide spread the Val’Kyr guards were. “And no sign of your soul fragments. I’m not surprised though. Halya won’t let you leave easily so the fragments are more than likely trapped.”
“By trapped, you mean held in place? Or trapped as in another round of trials we have to face?” Sava was as close to the fire as she could get with a few mage lights floating around her that cast blue lights into the dark.
“Trials more than likely. She loves her games and this is as good a time as any for challenges. Expect to face your darkest fears.” The queen watched as something passed over the mage’s face.
“Guess it’s a good thing I have my trusty paladin with me. I don’t think he’s really afraid of anything.” A weak grin Faltered as both of them turned to see where Kieri knelt in prayer, his sword and shield set aside for the moment.
“You are wrong my friend. It is the strong quiet ones that hold the deepest fears.” Standing slowly, the queen looked out across the eternal battlefield and frowned. “And out here, fears have a nasty habit of walking freely.”
Another shudder passed through her thin frame as she watched her friend. “I have never put much faith in gods or the Light, only Falkieri. He is what I imagine the light to be. Strong, patient, kind, stubborn, supportive and unrelenting. We’ve traveled together for so long, seen so many things and fought so many enemies that I can proudly say he has never Faltered. When things have been their darkest and I was at my lowest, Falkeri was always there. A light in the pervasive darkness.”
Stifling a laugh, the Queen came and sat next to Sava with a smirk. “You love him then?”
“I want to, yes. But he is also held by a vow. I’ll flirt and make offers but know that Kieri will never return them. It is not the first time I have cared deeply for someone who does not return my feelings but it is a first time to trust someone with them. I would give him my heart with the knowledge that he would never break it. Not so for others I have been with. Betrayal was served with my tea.” Sava shrugged and patted the queen’s knee when she saw the brief look of pity.
“I hope then, my friend, that he will return those feelings to you someday. If not, I think you have the force of will needed to by one of my Val’Kyr.” A wide grin and she gently pat Sava on the back. “For now, go wake him from his reverie so we can figure out a way to find these soul pieces.” ————— Looking out over the battlefield, Sava tried several different spells with no real effect. “I’ve tried a finding spell, scrying, conjuring and cursing everything. Nothing is working.” She turned to look at a perplexed queen and quiet Kieri. “It’s up to you, lantern-boy. I can’t find my soul.”
A little chuckle and he tilted his head. “If your souls are with my souls, then I know where to go.”
Throwing her hands in the air, she stomped over to him and jabbed a finger into his chest plate. “Do you mean to tell me I’ve been struggling this whole time and you just -knew-?” Her scowl brought more life into her eyes then he had seen during their stay and a part of him was glad she was able to get angry.
“I can sense three points of Light out there. Everything else is death and despair.” Careful of his gauntlets and her delicate hands, he took her hand in his and led her back over to the rocks they had been using to scout with. “See, the cave there? And a second up that mound and a third over on the far side of the battle field. We can free the Val’Kyr on our way to each of the caves and then meet back here to plan for the final battle.”
Glancing between the hand he still held and where he was pointing, Sava felt silly as her heart beat sped a little. “Fine then. Let’s go. And if my fragments are not with yours, perhaps the Val’kyr will be willing to help.”
— — — — The first Val’kyr they found was something Sava felt she would never forget. Suspended in a sphere of water the val’kyr spasmed in pain and fear, thrashing to get out of the watery prison. Sava could only shiver, eyes wide with her own inner fear, as Falkeri raised the lantern to break the curse. The sphere broke and the Val’kyr crashed to the ground in a floor of sea water. Even though she was a spirit and therefore could not drown, the Val’kyr coughed and choked even as Sava pat her back to help get imagined water out of her lungs.
Thankful to them both, the guard staggered back to the fire where her queen waited after a minute to collect herself. Sava turned to Kieri as soon as the guard was out of earshot. “Promise me, if I ever get caught in a curse like that? Just kill me…” Hugging herself, Sava looked at the puddle from the seawater. “That right there is my own personal hell…”
“Sava.” His hand rest on her shoulder before drawing her away from the pool that was slowly being absorbed by the ground. “I won’t let you be trapped like that.” His words sounded almost like a vow, strength behind every syllable that had Savania and even Kieri questioning his feelings toward the mage.
Their walk to the first cave felt almost awkward, particularly for Sava who wondered just how much closer the two of them had become in this hellish place. Was she only drawn closer to him because of how safe she felt near him or was she indeed growing fonder of the paladin? Was it only because they were literally at death’s door? Her heart hoped this would last beyond their escape but her mind told her again of his vow.
Beside her in both body and mindset, Falkeri walked toward the cave even as his mind explored the possible feelings growing for the mage. Guilt in the form of his vowed love walked between them, a specter only in his mind but real enough to make his heart ache. Luminescent silver eyes and hair glowed with the inner power of the otherworldly Pathfinder, her skin the color of the night sky with a sprinkling of pale freckles across her face. They had met by chance long ago while he was still young and had been separated after only a short time together.
Kieri didn’t realize he had stopped walking until Sava reached for his hand, her own passing through the specter that loomed over him. ‘Hey, you alright? I’m tired too but let’s do this. Get our souls back together and we can go.” Her head tilted a little, concern narrowing her eyes as she looks where he was. “What are you staring at?”
The memory of Willow, memory of a woman Kieri had loved with all his being, faded from his sight as Sava’s words reached him. “Nothing, I’m sorry. I was just … thinking about something.”
“Well think and walk. I want to stop feeling like I carry the weight of the world.” Rolling her left shoulder from the imagined weight, she frowned. “I’m too broken for these trials I think.”
“No, no you’re stronger then you think. Let’s go.” Adjusting his gauntlets, Kieri headed toward the cave opening.
