WAIT I WANNA BRING UP ANOTHER THING ABOUT HOW BULLYING IS ADDRESSED IN NERDY PRUDES MUST DIE. one thing I really liked about how Max is shown as a bully is his talk with Pete at the Pasqualli's parking lot. When Pete tries to stand up to Max, Max pushes him down and emphasizes that Pete isn't a loser because of his own qualities - rather, Pete is a loser because Max simply said so.

Of course we can attribute this to Max's god complex but I think that this point in particular is less than often really brought up in teen-centered media featuring bullying: that bullying exists not because of nerdy behavior or whatever the fuck, but because bullies will it into being. And to have a BULLY of all people say that out loud - to have the main villain point out the root of their behavior without showing any kind of shame whatsoever - showcases just how much of a menace Max is.

#like max is really fuckin self aware throughout the show #he knows he's the biggest prick alive and he revels in his jackassery #to the point of pointing out the core problem of bullying itself: people are bullied because people are bullies. simple as that #like its a good message to hammer down in the bullying problem of the show while also showing how far gone Max is with his delusion of power #so um yea #oki at this point it's kinda obvious that my favorite character in the show is max jagerman like writing wise #dude's portrayed as an irredeemable literal monster and the show doesnt shy away from the fact that the dude isnt getting any redemption arc #and yet there are nuances to him being overzealous with his power both in life and in the afterlife #SO YEA STARKID DID A GREAT JOB IN WRITING MAX LIKE DAMN #starkid #nerdy prudes must die #npmd #npmd spoilers

God forbid a cast of characters be multifaceted and have actual flaws and unpleasant aspects other than "grr angsty hero" and "whoops i'm so clumsy". Sometimes character dynamics and arcs need to be prioritized above "who would i personally be niceys with irl"

hades fandom dash osmosis had me kind of thinking that than and zag were the nicer friends to lovers romance and that meg was the mean dominatrix type but in my playthrough I've found that meg is distantly polite and than is openly a tsundere bitch. ok

College (uni??) AU catering to my own interests as it should always be hehe :)

#projecting my major on Vash because them mfs who have changed from the med field majors to that one have some tragic things to tell #and also because I think that Vash would be such a wonderful designer I don’t know why it’s a gut feeling #Nai the law major because of course he would have you seen the guy #he would be a personal injury lawyer because lore #fun fact Nai rested for a semester after the incident with Vash while Vash took two.He never told Nai he would be changing majors #so it was a big big shock for him. they fought again but yk I’ll explain more on that if anyone is interested #as to Kni and WW I thought it’d be funny if they shared a common subject that required a lot of team assignments #and they can NEVER work out together. being an absolute nightmare to the rest of their group #separately they are great to work with. even if Kni can come off as too bossy sometimes he is actually a great leader #and WW would always deliver things on time exactly as it was asked from him #but Kni and WW just never really matched. Kni was too rude at times when WW made a mistake and WW would always clock him if he passed a line #like insulting his reasons for wanting to study security #one day Kni tells him at the beginning of a new semester where they both have unfortunately landed on a shared subject again #“you are not suited for that sort of job Wolfwood. you should simply give up and why don’t you go play role model to your little kids’’#then WW beats him again and then is like hey yk what you’re kinda right. and changed majors and he feels so much more at home studying #education/teaching than security. he fucking hates some things but the end goal makes it worthy #Trigun Uni! jmart's relationship dynamic is actually so interesting because it takes a situation that could so easily be unhealthy - in fact, it's pretty much impossible to have a completely normal relationship under these circumstances - and does the very best it can with it. there is so so much that could go wrong in a relationship where you're both traumatized as hell, have been together for three weeks tops when the literal apocalypse starts, that apocalypse brings an incredible power dynamic to your relationship, and one of you seems determined to fulfill his martyr complex. i think it's a little bit silly to expect them not to argue. aside from the fact that a little bit of conflict is probably healthy, you cannot seriously think none of it would come up? you cannot seriously say you would be happy for none of it to be discussed?

and yet, i feel like they, for the most part, do an incredible job of communicating. it takes a bit of coaxing, but they talk about a lot of their issues, set up boundaries that they then follow, and when things do boil over they actively search each out to apologize. season five makes a really strong case for how good of a couple they could have been if only the stakes had been lesser and they'd gone through less trauma - the tragic irony of course being that that trauma is precisely what made them grow so close in the first place - and it think it's overall some really good relationship writing. a good balance between their individual characters, how those two interact, and how they interect with their current circumstances both as individuals and as a duo

#it seems like we're largely past the 'jmart is unhealthy' stuff #but still #i think they are an incredibly healthy couple in how they both actually put in the work for the relationship #love is nowhere near enough to sustain a successfull partnership #and i think the show does a great job of showing how it's the plot that gets in the way #not their actual compatability or ability to be good to one another #tma #the magnus archives #jonathan sims #martin blackwood #jmart #jonmartin

do u have any grian/scar characterization pet peeves?

In general, I dislike it when characters I like act in a way that seems (and there isn’t really a nice way to put this) overly pathetic to me. By that I mean, they just give up very quickly, or cry and get their feelings hurt very easily. To clarify a bit, Scar or Grian crying isn’t what would feel out of character - however, I would need to find it realistic. For example, in Scar’s case, crying over Jellie being injured seems realistic, or crying out of frustration when he reaches his breaking point after several events have piled up. It would just need to make sense to me, why an adult man who has been through a lot is crying over whatever the case may be.

I think in both of their cases, I just have an easier time imagining them fighting back in their own ways. I write Scar as a very charismatic person capable of manipulation, so I think he would use that to his advantage when in a tight spot. Additionally, I think since he often uses masks, Scar would be the type to only let himself look weak in front of those he really trusts.

Grian, on the other hand... If he’s kicked down, he starts planning his revenge before he even hits the floor. You can see this in a fun way when you watch the way his pranks quickly escalate and he always retaliates, or in a darker way throughout the Life Series as he never gives up and keeps creating new plans to try and make it through to the end.

Again, both of them are definitely capable of having their own painful moments, fallen as low as they can fall… but it shouldn’t be easy for anyone to push them to that point, in my opinion.

Obviously, if anyone does write them in a way I don’t prefer, no hate to them. I actually do like whump fics, I can just be a bit picky about them. I’m a big believer in ‘don’t like, don’t read,’ so if a fic is making me feel peeved, it’s easy to click off. :)
