Fuck i need to vent. I just rode a highfleet campaign into the ground, I lost all my light ships over a series of battles, lost all aircraft on my one remainong aircraft carrier, and got repeatedly pummeled by cruise missiles.
The sky is blanketed in nuclear ash of the my capital. We are running out of everything. Only a small carrier and the sevastopol remain. The only way forward for me, is to the east. And that is where the rwr is screaming. One last hurrah! The battle begins and the music
youtube
plays. No way but through, i load armor piercing and go. It instantly devolves into a brutal slugging match against some cruiser. I rip it to shreds, but get mauled in return. I am able to rip into hell with me most of the enemy task force. Except for a corvette and an escort carrier. My carrier is able to destroy both without a single aircraft available, only 30mm. but by that point the campaign is over.
I got the shakes. Fuck was that good.

For a writing WIP tag game: what is "spirits behind flowing mountains and miles following"? 👀
it's a highfleet!au sasrh fic. the title is a mashup of three titles from the OST which are all in grammatically incorrect hungarian (tanc a lelek - tánc a lélek: dance is the spirit; a egyek mogott - a hegyek mögött: behind the mountains; folyo merfold - folyó mérföld: flowing miles/river, miles).

desperate to play the vesalblood eurojank game with insane feature creep and fleshy UI that makes no sense unless you've played 200+ hours
you know, I think even with an endless budget, I would end up making something like HighFleet with fleshmecha at most coherent,, so you're not off-base

i have a cohost now
i have a cohost now. it is also called flexxyfluxx.
@ all my mutuals: i suggest you go make a cohost. if shit hits the fan even more than it already has, that's where i'll be.
and now, we return to our regularly scheduled program:
PINNED POST TIME
or whatever
call me flexxy. still figuring out the whole pronouns situation, but probably "she/her" is me rn. maybe "it", esp when referring to myself as a cat. the name might also be subject to change.
this cat will frequently refer to itself as "this cat". she likes saying that, and . i mean, call a cat a cat, am i right?
probably best to have this next information more towards the top;
this cat will occasionally reblog porn, and other sexual content.
do with that what you will; if you're a minor, maybe it's worth staying away.
this cat is discovering the joy of colored text. please bear with me.
this cat is some flavor of trans. maybe she was a boy once, but she can't say that with certainty anymore. this cat learned the word "demigirl" recently, and is slowly rotating it in her mind. she likes the sound of "girlthing".
also, this cat is probably bi. or maybe pan? maybe she'll figure that out one day, hehe.
in any case, its gender is such that every sex with it is gay :3
this cat uses Linux. this cat will tell you to also use Linux. this is because windows is shite, macos is restrictive, and chromeos is both, plus google. big tech is a fuck, go use linux today. viva la FOSS.
this cat uses Arch Linux (btw). this cat will not recommend you use Arch Linux (btw), because Arch Linux is annoying (btw). this cat just happens to tolerate, and occasionally even enjoy, those annoyances. if you're new to linux, go use ubuntu.(i've made peace with Canonical)
update: this cat has installed NixOS on its laptop. she likes!
central configurations, my beloved.
the desktop remains Arch-based and updatepilled for now :3
this cat loves tiling window managers. it used gnome once, but abandoned that long ago in favor of i3wm, and eventually cast that aside when it found swaywm and realized it wouldnt have to deal with picom anymore. now, this cat gets to deal with the lacking software support for Wayland in multiple critical areas (screen sharing is .bad) instead. this cat has heard of dwm and hyprland and a few others, and is a lil curious what all the hype's about, but lacks the energy to do the research. for now, she loves the rectangular simplicity of sway. she loves the low-effort nature of windows that just neatly tile side by side where you tell them to be, and wonders how she ever put up with floating window systems at all.
this cat plays video games. games it likes / has liked are Celeste, SUPERHOT (MCD too), FTL (esp Multiverse), Into the Breach, Minecraft, Satisfactory, the Metro series, Astroneer, ULTRAKILL, Dungeon of the Endless, Cyberpunk, Doom (2016 and Eternal, mostly Eternal) and Planetside 2. and more probably, but i forgor. want to play Highfleet sometime, bc i love the OST (Tanc a Lelek my beloved)
Current video game: Satisfactory

Main Design Refs
I've yet to decide on a potential graphical direction, only having in mind that it would be best to go in a minimalist and low poly route with a focus on strong shape language combined with a function over form philosophy. Also, the style should not be cartoon or stylised. Rather, it should aim to be realistic and immersive.
I've looked at many RTS games and have a particular direction in mind. In this blog post I want to look at the direction for unit-design. Supreme Commander (Main Design Ref)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Supreme Commander serves as a good "main ref" for my unit design direction, particularly the Human faction which features very blocky unit design. One reason I like this is it enables me to explore the idea of creating modular unit design templates.
For example, the player could create a chassis and then add modules onto it such as turrets, engine and other. Different types of chassis could produce units that have different strengths and weaknesses.
Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak (Units)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Homeworld also features a unit design style similar to Supreme Commander, so it's worth adding to this list. The interesting thing about these units is the way that some of the larger vehicles are able to hold the smaller ones. For example, the main base is a large aircraft carrier which has multiple functions from shooting missiles, building smaller units and aircraft. The design of this vehicle is very well done and is a great example of the function over form philosophy that I need in my game.
HighFleet (Ship Building)
youtube
HighFleet boasts an exceptionally intricate and sophisticated ship construction system, unparalleled by any other game I've encountered. It stands as an invaluable reference for me in the realm of unit creation.
The design possibilities might vary significantly between units, with simpler ones offering fewer customization options, while the more substantial, experimental units present a broader array of choices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One cool idea might be that the player has a deep and sophisticated unit building and customisation interface with realistic graphics, however the unit itself while in-game might look much more minimal, but still utilising any features and stats that have been selected via the build interface.
Further Notes
While conducting research on graphics, factions, environments, and vehicles for my project, I stumbled upon an artist named Zhang. His portfolio immediately caught my attention due to the exceptional quality and creativity of his work.
Among his diverse array of pieces, one stood out significantly to me— a concept design for a vehicle. This particular artwork was not only visually striking but also remarkably relevant to the themes and ideas I am exploring in my own project. Zhang's unique approach to blending functional design with aesthetic flair in this vehicle concept provided a fresh perspective and valuable inspiration for how I might approach similar designs in my work. The attention to detail and the innovative use of materials and shapes in his design have given me a lot to think about and potentially incorporate into my creative process.
Tumblr media
The reasons I found this particular piece by Zhang especially remarkable are manifold. Firstly, the shape and design language of the vehicle concept are executed with a fluidity that is aesthetically pleasing, despite its blocky form. This style not only makes the vehicle visually appealing but also imparts a sense of functionality over mere aesthetics, suggesting a modular design that could be adapted or expanded upon.
The concept resonated strongly with me because it aligns perfectly with a central feature of my game—a unit builder where players can design their own units. Zhang's artwork serves as an excellent reference point for this aspect of the game, offering inspiration on how to balance aesthetic appeal with practical functionality in unit design.
Additionally, the presentation of this concept is particularly professional and engaging. It is showcased in a turntable format, which provides a 360-degree view of the vehicle. Link:
