Do you think Kaechat and Lumity are similar or is it only me?
I think they’re both similar in some ways. Both of them are relationships between very different people, they’re both queer relationships, they start out as a relationship between an uptight rules-lover (Kaeloo/Amity) and a fun-loving rebel (Mr. Cat/Luz), and they have some other similarities (for example Mr. Cat is intelligent like Amity and Kaeloo is energetic like Luz). They also happen to be the most popular relationship in their respective fandoms.
That being said there are some differences, like how Luz and Amity’s relationship progressed really fast and they’re often on the same wavelength, unlike the constantly-bickering Kaeloo and Mr. Cat who somehow still haven’t officially started dating after five whole seasons even though their relationship is definitely progressing as the show continues.

Holding each other's hands is an integral gesture to Kaeloo and Mr. Cat's relationship. It's kind of "their thing".
One of the earliest times we see Mr. Cat genuinely caring for Kaeloo, and the first time we see him actually protecting her, is in "Quest for the Wholly Gruel", where he grabs her by the hand and pulls her to safety when she's willing to endanger herself.
In "The Very Special Episode", when Kaeloo and Mr. Cat are feeling guilty for their actions and afraid for the future, Mr. Cat smiles at Kaeloo and holds her hand. It's a reminder that no matter what happens, he loves her, and he'll be there for her.
In "You've Changed", after several seasons of Mr. Cat comforting Kaeloo when things go wrong, we finally see Mr. Cat break down in an anxiety attack. Kaeloo decides to comfort him by hugging him and then holding his hand to lead him to see a better future.
And of course there's the famous "love is beautiful" scene from "Sock Hunt", where Kaeloo sees a group of happy sock couples together and says "even between socks... love is beautiful" and holds hands with Mr. Cat.
