Talking about Korean Translation stuff i did
Tumblr media
I made a Twitter thread just talking about some Korean Translation stuff I did, as well as just generally looking for people who might be interested in
Like, I should spend some time organizing my Translation portfolio, including some VN translation patches i made...
I did make Korean Captions for "Sparkle On Raven", as well as couple of other things like... *sigh* Homestuck stuff...
(also i need RobbyDude to upload the KR caption for the Halloween ep NYOWWW)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More Video game translation examples!
Me and my team at the time created a Korean translation patch for Hiveswap Act 1 back in 2019 or so
The game was built in Unity, which we needed a bit of technical help from different translation teams to Decompile and recompile the files.
side from these I participated in a Fan made Korean Translation patch for the game "Night in the Woods",
as well as did some Official Editorial work for the Korean Translation of "Chicory: A Colorful Tale"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But yeah like, the point being,
If u want your work to reach more people in a completely different country, hit me up!
My per-word count is standard rate which is like, surprsingly affordable imo
Anyways ya CONSIDER ME FOR KR TRANSLATIONS LOL

Sampo Koski Korean Voiceline Translations!
I won't be talking about every single voiceline in here since some are just the same as the English translation, but I wanted to make note of some interesting Korean translations!
IMPORTANT NOTE: I grew up speaking Korean and did not learn it "officially". Because of this, there may be some mistranslations on my part, though I'll try to be as accurate as possible!
With that out of the way, translations under the cut!
Tumblr media
Greeting: "So, what are you doing this time? If you give me money I'll do it, and... well, even if you don't give me money, I'll do it anyway. Either way, Just tell me, friend!"
Tumblr media
Parting: "Now, when it's time to rest, you should rest. Sigh*1 There's no reason to be suspicious of me, friend! I won't run away."
*1 He sighs like, that Korean affectionate-sigh that you'd do around people you love or young kids, kind of like an admonishment but lovingly? A bit difficult to explain.
Tumblr media
Annoyances: "I sell people what they want, but they call me a con man! Wouldn't you be angry?"
Tumblr media
Knowledge: "Can you tell me how you got to the Snow Plains? Flight?* Don't even try to tell me that you took a car, I won't believe you!"
*As in did you fly
Tumblr media
About Svarog: "If someone ever manages to strike a deal with Svarog, THIS SAMPO*, will respect them!
*It's not entirely uncommon to refer to yourself in the third person in Asian languages such as Japanese or Korean. In this case, it's used to emphasize the referement to himself.
Tumblr media
About Seele: "With Miss Seele, she would rather hit me than yell at me*. Between Miss Seele and I, which one is the problem?"
*Bit unsure about this translation. I'll edit this post later if it turns out something needs to be changed!
Tumblr media
About Gepard: "We see each other pretty often, with Gepard chasing after me, and I running away. We've been doing this Tom and Jerry game* for a while, so it's pretty fun, hehehehe.
*Yes, he literally references Tom and Jerry.
Other interesting Korean translation notes:
He refers to March 7 as 동생 (dongsaeng) which in Korean means "little sibling". This doesn't mean that he sees March 7 as family, but can be used as an affectionate term for someone younger than you. Thought it was cute to mention!
If I run into any more Korean tidbits, I'll edit this post, but for now that's it! Hope you guys enjoyed reading this!
If you have requests for a character, let me know!

Looking to speak w Asian heritage speaker-translators!
I am writing an essay (which will be pitched to a few translation publications) about the experiences of Asian diasporic heritage speakers who also translate in that language.
The piece is a broad (and also personal) reflection on the question: "What does it mean to translate as a heritage speaker?" As a heritage speaker and linguist, I find the intersection between language and identity an interesting one. I'm particularly interested in speaking with diasporic fan translators, especially for K-Pop.
Please feel free to rb this post with thoughts in the tags or comments if you are comfortable! My DMs are also open if you'd like to chat there. Let me know if you'd like to remain anonymous, or be credited for your thoughts.

Looking for translation help!
I need someone who actually speaks/reads Korean natively to help me out. MBC posted the following statement about a group that I follow and none of the translation sources that I'm trying are giving me a clear idea of what it says, especially the middle section:
Thanks in advance!!!

Cat of the Week: Goober
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goober is the silliest kitty in the garden. A lover of mischief and tube-shaped spaces, he’s friends with practically every cat in the yard. Although he considers his best friends to be Rusty, Lola, Fernandito, and Jophiel (although it’s unclear whether Jophiel feels the same). The ultimate extrovert, Goober prefers large items so that he can interact with the other kitties.

Hey guys, so I made this post (major spoilers if you haven't finished Trespasser) on the Dragon Age subreddit a while ago breaking down the Lost Elf theme from Trespasser from my perspective as a classically trained cellist.
Well, someone reached out to me recently asking if they could translate my post into Korean for their blog so they could share it with Dragon Age fans in Korea. If you speak Korean, please take a look at their translation! Y'all know I love DA, so I'm excited to see the fandom has reached so many different people. A HUGE thanks to the translator for making this post accessible to a wider range of fans!

English Lyrics: Nam Kyung Un - Shit happened on Wednesday [Translation]
I didn't think that this would happen today
Your figure left sooner than I thought
My house is far from here
I never would have seen this neighborhood if it weren't for you
The joke I inadvertently threw made you laugh
My house is far from here but you can come over on Wednesday
I will always come back to you
I was with you
You were with me
But I didn't realize that time was passing
I was with you
You were with me
But I didn't realize that time was passing
Even though it hurts to say, it's all gone now

오르막길 (Uphill Road) - 윤종신 (Yoon Jong Shin)
Tumblr media
Korean-English Translation
[Verse 1]
이제부터 웃음기 사라질거야
가파른 이 길을 좀 봐
그래 오르기 전에 미소를 기억해두자
오랫동안 못 볼 지 몰라
완만했던 우리가 지나온 길엔
달콤한 사랑의 향기
이제 끈적이는 땀 거칠게 내쉬는 숨이
우리 유일한 대화일지 몰라
Our smiles are going to disappear from this point forward
Just look at this steep path
Yes, before we begin to climb, let's remember our smiles
We may not see them for a while
The gentle path we had traveled
Smelled sweetly of love
Now the sticky sweat and our rough breathing
May be our only conversation
[Hook]
한걸음 이제 한걸음일 뿐
아득한 저 끝은 보지마
평온했던 길처럼 계속
나를 바라봐줘 그러면 견디겠어
One step – Now it's just a step
Don't look at that distant finish line (lit. end)
If you keep looking at me, just like during that peaceful road,
If you do that, I may overcome this
[Refrain]
사랑해 이 길 함께 가는 그대
굳이 고된 나를 택한 그대여
가끔 바람이 불 때만
저 먼 풍경을 바라봐
올라온 만큼 아름다운 우리 길
기억해 혹시 우리 손 놓쳐도
절대 당황하고 헤매지 마요
더 이상 오를 곳 없는
그 곳은 넓지 않아서
우린 결국엔 만나 오른다면
I love you, you who travels with me on this road
You, who insisted upon choosing the difficult me
Only when the wind occasionally blows
Look at that far-off view
Our path, which is as beautiful as the length we've come.
Remember, if ever we lose each other's hands
Don't ever get flustered or roam around
When we reach the point where we can't climb any further
That place isn't very large
So we will eventually meet, if we go up
[Hook]
한걸음 이제 한걸음일 뿐
아득한 저 끝은 보지마 평
온했던 길처럼 계속 나를 바라봐줘
그러면 난 견디겠어
One step – Now it's just a step
Don't look at that distant finish line (lit. end)
If you keep looking at me, just like during that peaceful road,

굳이 고된 나를 택한 그대여
가끔 바람이 불 때만

올라온 만큼 아름다운 우리 길
기억해 혹시 우리 손 놓쳐도
절대 당황하고 헤매지 마요
더 이상 오를 곳 없는 그 곳은
넓지 않아서 우린 결국엔 만나
크게 소리 쳐 사랑해요 저 끝까지
I love you, you who travels with me on this road
You, who insisted upon choosing the difficult me
Only when the wind occasionally blows
Look at that far-off view
Our path, which is as beautiful as the length we've come.
Remember, if ever we lose each other's hands
