hello! welcome back to my FMA Characters as Taylor Swift albums!!! please note this was written before ttpd dropped. previous albums are here:
debut, fearless (taylor’s version), speak now (taylor’s version), RED (taylor’s version), 1989 (taylor’s version), 𝔯𝔢𝔭𝔲𝔱𝔞𝔱𝔦𝔬𝔫, 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓇, 𝒇𝒐𝒍𝒌𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒆, 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆
now, let’s discuss the 13 20 21 22 sleepless nights from taylor’s past:
Midnights
Roy Mustang
- this isn’t a surprise is you follow me considering how often i’ve gone crazy over how roy coded antihero is
- the concept of the album is 13 midnights from taylor’s past that she’s revisiting. though the album feels more like a conversation between taylor’s relationship to fame and her personal life AND from very recent events of finding out when certain songs were written (jack antonoff you petty as bitch i love you) the album has a deeper meaning. while still about 13 nights from taylor’s past it also feels like it’s her trying to find a way to save her current relationship and she’s doing that by looking back at old relationships and how’s those failed/ended or started to understand what is going wrong now.
- it also feels like a threat at times to yogurt boy (ex boyfriend i won’t name) that she can leave though it’s clear she doesn’t want to leave. she wants to make this work because of all he did to help at her lowest of lows and helped show her a different aspect of life she could have. but her partner isn’t giving anything. and she is slowly dying.
- …
- alright now that i’m done with my rant, that very well be edited later because we’re getting new taylore by the fucking day and it’s changing perspectives on EVERYTHING, we can move on
- this album has been criticized for not having as deep of lyrics as her previous two albums (cause people are fucking idiots and can’t read anything past a pop beat ((STARES AT AYHTDWS))) but the album is still full of great lines and songs that show us different sides of taylor.
- i do however think that based off how the album is presented and shown it feels very roy coded. with the album showing different sides of taylor and her past regrets and knowing just how different her life could be if she did just one thing differently (john mayer i am in your fucking walls). this resonates a lot with roy’s character and what we know about his life
- most notably the song anti-hero is roy coded as hell. a monster of your own making and the deep fear of driving the person you love away because of your own hands… that’s roy baby!
- but that theme carry’s over into several other songs such as midnight rain or you’re on your own kid. and while those songs are different stories and from a female perspective, there is still a voice of loneliness in them and your past decisions haunting you and being unable to escape it. that you had wanted of this one thing for so long but now that you got it you fully see the damage it has done not only to you but others and now have to live with the decision. this comes through for taylor as her wanting to be famous and her disliking of celebrity life as she doesn’t see herself as human anymore, while for roy he views himself as a monster for his previous actions and is doing everything he can to try and right his wrongs
- both have a similar view of themselves but also feel like this is their own fault. they both made their bed now they must lie in it.
- so i wander through these nights/i prefer hiding in plain sight/this fourth drink in my hand/these DESPERATE PRAYERS OF A CURSED MAN!/spilling out to you for free…/but darling darling please you wouldn’t take me word for it if you knew who was talking…/if you knew where i was walking…/to a house, not a home, all alone cause nobody’s there…/where i pace in my pen and my friends found people who care…/no one sees you lose when you’re playing solitaire
- (of course user dearreader assigns sad little meow meow as dear reader)
- everything i touch becomes sick with sadness…
- all of me changed like midnight rain/he wanted it comfortable i wanted that pain
- i have this thing where i get older but just never wiser
- sometimes i feel like everyone’s a sexy baby and i’m a monster on the hill/to big to hang out slowly lurching toward your favorite city/pierced through the heart but never killed/did you hear my cover narcissism i disguise as altruism like some kind of congressman?
- do you see the difference? i love how riza walked several steps behind roy while still protected him. riza doesn't put roy in the basement. she’s not afraid of his shine. she lets him bejeweled.
- there are love songs on here that i’ve already talked about being royai coded in their own posts and or me feral posting about royai (labyrinth, sotb, sweet nothing, lavender haze, etc.) and like… yeah that’s there.
- also, while i don’t view the song in this way, it has been pointed out to me how you’re losing me is very Roy vs. Envy coded and i have to acknowledge that here but not in my own heart cause if i do that then ill lose my mind over the song even more than i already do.
- but, that’s my ted talk. thank you all for coming and reading these posts! and remember:

today i tried to explain to my coworker all of the different versions of midnights because she didn't understand. i was like alright so first we have the standard edition of midnights okay? thirteen tracks. released in october of 2022 at midnight.
then we have the 3am edition. released at 3am the same night as a surprise. includes all 13 tracks plus seven new 3am tracks okay? makes sense? okay good. alright.
then we have the target exclusive known as the lavender edition, which consists of the original 13 tracks plus three bonus tracks. one of them is an entirely new song hits different. the other two are you're on your own, kid (strings remix) and sweet nothing (piano remix), which are two of the standard tracks. these three tracks were not available on streaming. note: sweet nothing (piano remix) is really also a strings remix, there's no added piano just added strings, but for some reason, it's referred to as a piano remix...not a strings remix...but i digress!!
fast forward to may of 2023 and the til dawn edition comes out. includes the 13 standard tracks, the seven 3am tracks, one of the target lavender edition bonus tracks hits different (but not the other two bonus track remixes of you're on your own, kid and sweet nothing), a new version of snow on the beach featuring more lana del rey (because people were upset that lana didn't have a verse on the og version of the song on the standard edition), and a remix of karma featuring ice spice.
but wait!!! there's more. on the same day in may, taylor also released the late night edition. includes the 13 standard tracks and then eight "late night tracks", which are actually just five of the seven 3am tracks (excluding paris and glitch for some reason...), a new song you're losing me (from the vault), snow on the beach (featuring more lana) and karma (featuring ice spice). for some reason, hits different is not included and is only on the til dawn edition despite the other two til dawn edition songs (snow on the beach ft more lana and karma ft ice spice) being on the late night edition. also, the til dawn edition was available on streaming, but the late night edition was only available to buy as a CD or as a digital download, so....
this was a wild day because we finally got hits different on streaming, but then the new song you're losing me wasn't on streaming. an absolute tragedy!!
but hey! don't worry. you're losing me will be released. fast forward again to the end of the year and taylor releases you're losing me as a midnights single as a thank you for winning spotify artist of the year 2023.
you're losing me is not on any of the albums on streaming though. it just kind of exists on its own. yeah, no. there's not a single album actually that includes every single song.
oh and also? those remixes of you're on your own, kid and sweet nothing? still only available on the target lavender edition. yeah no. they probably won't ever be on streaming.

i’m going to be so real for a second, it’s bullshit for her to release a full song only available physically on a cd at a particular show
is she unaware of the extreme culture around her tour merch right now? is she trying to encourage scalpers buying the merch and reselling for absurdly high prices? is she not thinking about how this excludes not only fans not going to met life but also disabled fans unable to wait in long lines?
the thought process there either fully lacks awareness or is intentionally malicious
it’s giving 300 people know

You’re losing me analysis
I know this song is about a romantic relationship but it really reasonates with me as a song about yourself. “Losing” yourself to your own terrible mental health and self perception. “Remember lookin’ at this room… throw everything out we built or keep it”, you look back on your past and everything you’ve lived till now, and you can’t find anything worthwhile in your life presently, even if at one point you had more love for yourself.. Its a conversations between the voices in your head. You “can’t find a pulse”, you don’t feel alive. “My heart won’t start anymore” nothing works anymore to help you feel better. You’re losing your life, you can’t feel anything. You struggle with loving with yourself. It’s a war between the depression and illness, and the part of you that wants to fight to live. “Too far gone… life” you’re giving up on yourself, “bravest soldier” fighting for yourself, “best thing at this party” reminding yourself of your worth, “rising from the ashes” constantly trying to put yourself back together after especially bad episodes. The last four lines in the bridge willing yourself to do something anything, but you haven’t been good to yourself, and now it feels like you’re too far gone to come back.

I feel like TTPD is going to have the lyrics of folklore and evermore and the soft pop sounds of Lover, Midnights, and “Slut!” along with the storytelling fantasy vintage aspect Speak Now. Just saying 🤍

a lot of people are talking about how devastating the marriage line is in you’re losing me, and it is, but i think “i know my pain is such an imposition” is equally as sad.
to constantly feel like you’re a burden to other people, and the things that you struggle with are burdensome, is one of the worst feelings in the world. even worse if you have someone in your life who makes you feel dismissed or undervalued in that regard.
