I love how this is just a thing the Inspector does in the Lars comics. This chap just closes/covers his eyes so he can have the alibi of "Well, I didn't see them so there was nothing I could do to stop them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
Absolutely legendary behavior. He does everything in his power to keep his arrests to a minimum. And for what? Because he'd rather not arrest his friends? Because of some antithetical moral code? Who knows! I love him for it, though.
After over a month polls and voting we have finally reached the final (albeit predictable) conclusion...
Congratulations to Mr. Hemulen for being, scientifically, the best Hemulen in the Moomin franchise!
The jack of all trades and the impossible achiever has yet another major achievement under his belt to go along with his complete stamp collection and 2 flower discoveries! Good for him!
Then in second place we have Wimsy! With his inexplicable charms despite his relative obscurity he managed to make it to the top of his side of the bracket! He can sleep well under the dining table knowing well how many people adore him for being himself.
In shared third place we have the Inspector and the Hemulen Who Loved Silence! The Inspector is for certain the best character in his category of being a police hemulen by virtue of being the only policeman to be actively kind to people, and the Hemulen Who Loved Silence seems to have gotten that far by virtue of relatability and wholesomeness! How sweet!

Well, that's it for now! Whatever happens to this blog afterwards I'm not sure - I'm thinking of either making it a reblog blog dedicated to Hemulens with some trivia/speculation/polls thrown in or yet another project I have to keep up with (I'm thinking of making it a sort of Hemulen-lead arg which uses asks to tell the story), but who knows! Thanks for voting!
Originally from Comet in Moominland, then continuing his role in Finn Family Moomintroll (in fact, he's the only Hemulen to appear in more than one book from the main book series!), he was a grumpy and oblivious old man who only ever focused on his stamps, but after he finished his collection and took up plant collecting, his character softened. He was later fully adapted into the 90s series, becoming a very often reoccurring character who offers his knowledge on plants and other fields of science.
The Inspector
An unorthodox reoccurring Hemulen originating from the comics and becoming a reoccurring character in most animated adaptations, rather than being characterized by his job or even as being rude, he is a goofy and well-meaning police inspector who is more interested in the care of his roses than policing the already often peaceful Moominvalley. Gender non-conforming in interests and characterized as either oblivious or downright kind, he may be the only policeman you'd want to get arrested by (he even cooks food for his prisoners!)
He is also one of the few major hemulens who has an on-screen romance with another character (the Mymble's daughter in the 90s series), though his queercoding and lack of interaction with her in the comics makes it very odd as an adaptation.
