I just got this screen in the White Wolf for the first time ever! It's what happens if you're outside at 5:30 and trying to travel to a location, while the weather is breaching into 'dangerously cold' zone. Nancy shows your this beautiful sunset, says she's heading back in, and then you're teleported back to the lodge. Love that for her. Our responsible girl.
If anyone ever wants to find out what it feels like to be FERALLY GASLIT, play The Final Scene.
Not only is the first 10 minutes Nancy trying to find help and NO ONE (including and especially the police) believing that her friend was just kidnapped, but also at almost every turn to another person minimizing and dismissing her worry (ie Nick saying they won’t hurt it, or it’s just a prank, the police CONSTANTLY saying that Maya probably wasn’t kidnapped or probably isn’t in any danger, and to go home and rest, and Joseph saying Maya probably isn’t in the building or that she probably didn’t ACTUALLY see those empty pizza boxes and MAYA’S LITERAL FEET MOVING, even the dead owner was out here lying to women and getting away with it all willy nilly)
Other than certain moments with Joseph, all four game characters can be boiled down to people who are too full of themselves to see anyone else’s opinions, fear, or suffering as anything other than an opportunity for them to capitalize on.
Even when they all stand on completely opposing sides of the issues at hand, they ALL find a way to benefit from the kidnapping.
This game has Nancy’s most BEASTLY comebacks, and she spends half of it literally YELLING (depending on what speech blurbs you pick, but I’m always yelling). Her anger is always intensified when no one will listen, which causes people to literally tell her to calm down.
There is so much of what women, or anyone who finds themselves belittled, have to deal with all the time BAKED into the game.
NO KEY WITHOUT TOIL • a nancy drew fic concept (tw blood / horror clips in trailer)
decades have passed since nancy (amy adams) first visited blackmoor manor. after a divorce and the passing of her father, nancy finds herself in london accompanying maya nguyen to brady armstrong’s metamorphosis from cable tv to theatre.
nancy is all too happy to duck out of the play and take a call from hugh penvellyn, who is desperate to uncover the whereabouts of an adult jane (mia washikowska) and five other missing girls - one being mei parry, who travelled to london to meet an online friend with a passion for game design.
nancy feels just as washed up as brady armstrong. she’s been a nickerson for years now - she wouldn’t know nancy drew if that long-lost legend shook her by the shoulders and screamed.
perhaps the halls of blackmoor can guide her back to herself, whoever that might be.
if frank hardy wants to help light the path down those gloomy, twisted moors, who is she to stop him and joe? but the addition of deirdre, the married ghost hunting duo jessalyn thorton and henry bolet, plus dylan carter, who is now giving spook-ridden tours of blackmoor? well, let’s just say that rediscovering nancy drew might be tricker than expected.
my actions ensure that my name will endure, right?
To refresh this blog and be deserving of my name, I'll dive head first into replaying Nancy Drew games! I thought about playing them in release order, but every time I tried to do this, I'd ended up playing Secrets Can Kill, Stay Tuned for Danger, and Message in the Haunted Mansion on repeat. To add some variety, I'll play them in alphabetical order. Alibi in Ashes is first!
I bought a new notebook because, for some reason, taking photos feels like cheating. Writing long-ashell notes for each game is a part of the experience.
I'll write a review of each game, discussing the following criteria: plot, suspects, music, puzzles, and the culprit monologue, with bonus points for nostalgia or iconic characters. I'll also make short commentaries while playing to talk about my favorite moments. I can spend two hours a day max playing Nancy Drew because I'll get lost in the game otherwise. We'll start now, so buckle up!
I just love how Nancy here goes, oh, all of my clothing is drenched wet, so let me just, let me fold it into a perfect rectangle, while it's wet, and then also leave it on my bed, wet, where I'm implied to intend to sleep tonight, so that the bed can get wet too :) and we're just supposed to accept this, that after solving all of those mysteries Nancy's brain goes only so far in the matter of wet clothing
