Day 6!! We've reached our next cast member who needs no introduction because I talk about him so much but we're gonna introduce him anyway! Playing Aphrodite’s bestie/temporary husband Ares, we have the incredibly talented @taytayheyhey!

Ares is the god of war and, in the typical mythology, Aphrodite’s lover that she cheats on Hephaestus with. Despite popular depictions, Ares was actually a protector of women in ancient Greece and was the patron god of the Amazons. I wanted to showcase Ares as something other than a mean, scary god of war so this show softens him a lot. He's Aphrodite's best friend, by her side no matter what. He's also a bear with a pet bear who ends up falling head over heels for one of our dear gods and treats them with so much love and respect.

Like with Tot and Aph, I immediately had Tay's voice in mind when I was writing Ares. He wasn't sure that he could do this role thinking I was leaning into the whole big mean god of war thing but once I explained my vision he said yes and gods I'm so grateful. He has already made me cry *so much* with his stuff for the first half of the show. Y'all are gonna love what he's done with this character, I just know it.

In addition to being in both of my shows (he plays Winston in @thefringespod, one of my favorite characters I've written) Tay can also be heard in The Grotto, WOE.BEGONE, The Department of Variance of Somewhere, Ohio and on twitch where he streams all sorts of games (hes a great streamer) Tay is insanely talented and getting to create this role for him has been so amazing. I know yall will just love Ares as much as I do

YESSSSSS i will happily take any excuse to talk about my tavs. 🥰 i'm sorry this took so long. i wanted to have their Lore™ a little more set in stone before answering this, but then i proceeded to make uhhhh 2 more tavs and a durge. 🤡

i am listing my characters in the order i created them. they're all good/neutral aligned because being mean in video games makes me break out in hives. aaaaand this is going under a read more because it got really fucking long. 🥴

marqwyn stoneheart

my first tav who i adore. ❤️ i stole her name from the very first character i created for a now abandoned dnd campaign (though she's nothing like og marqwyn). she's a former flaming fist who left their service due to the corruption she witnessed there. after leaving the city she became an independent soldier for hire—but she's a terrible mercenary because she's a bleeding heart who will help people because they need it, regardless of whether they can pay her or not.

she has dragged the party into many an unnecessary brawl because her charisma is literally in the negatives. we love a girl incapable of talking herself out of Situations. she also used to have two brown eyes before deciding to get herself volo'd during a brief moment of desperation-fuelled insanity.

her backstory has changed a lot since i first made her, mostly because i didn't really have anything in mind when i started playing. 😬 i also had no fucking clue what i was doing when i first started and it certainly shows (tons of missed content, didn't take enough long rests, completely missed lae'zel for the first ~30 hours of gameplay, have done quests in an extremely questionable order, etc.).

i romanced gale with her because the wizard had me by the jugular the second he opened his mouth, and buff wife who hits things with her big sword and her squishy wizard husband who casts counterspell is something that can be so personal. that being said, i do want to rework her character and do another playthrough with her, probably romancing wyll, because her playthrough is a mess.

i will now dip into the alternate canon that lives in my brain in which my next three tavs are allowed to coexist, so just stay with me here and trust in the vision ajgjsdgf

meadow moonwillow

race: mephistopheles tiefling

romance: karlach (or enya in the canon that exists in my head)

i made her specifically for my karlach romance run, because best girl deserves a little sunshine to match her own. meadow was born to play gigs in dive bars, but was cursed with a natural talent for magic. 😔 she'll use it because it's useful in a fight, i guess, but she'd much rather insult people to death. if there is shit to be disturbed, she will disturb it.

her and gale are best friends, because i think having some friendly spell caster competition with his bestie who (begrudgingly) lets him teach her wizard spells would be good for his mental health. her and wyll butt heads a bit at first, mostly because meadow's way of trying to comfort people is through humor, and her attempts to make him feel better about his new devil form come off as insensitive (inspired by the way i accidentally insulted wyll at the tiefling party in my meadow playthrough by joking that i was jealous of his horns. king i swear it was meant as a compliment!! 😭). eventually they become really close, which is certainly a necessity when you're both going on a vacation to hell with no set end date.

also my choice of name for her definitely has nothing to do with the fact that i am in the middle of watching the sopranos. definitely not.

landric sparrowsong, "the wrath-bringer"

his backstory is probably the one i've thought about in the most detail, mostly because he's a walking tragedy and i live for that shit. 🧍🏻‍♀️

he was once a school teacher and wasn't much of a fighter at all before his little village near baldur's gate was razed to the ground and his wife and (or so he thinks 👀) daughter were killed, at which point he took up his oath of vengeance. his favourite pastimes now include self-sacrifice and violently murdering evildoers, hence the "wrath-bringer" epithet.

he has been alone—mostly by choice, because he can't lose any more loved ones if there is no one left alive that he loves—for over a decade by the time he's infected, but the forced proximity means the companions very quickly get under his skin. he's very protective of meadow especially (when they're both in the party at the same time in the universe that exists in my head) because she reminds him of his daughter.

he is god's favourite sacrificial lamb, and is consistently the first to go down in a fight (inspired by me, constantly getting him killed by taking far too long to figure out how to play a support class). naturally i paired him with gale because i think the idea of a guy finally opening his heart to the love of another after over a decade of self-imposed solitude out of fear of being hurt again, only for gale to decide to take on a suicide mission just as they're finally realizing their feelings for one another, is soooooo good and tragic. ☺️

he has a soft spot for children, but being around them makes him sad and withdrawn (for obvious reasons), something that the companions notice pretty quickly once they get to the grove and see his cold exterior totally melt around the kids there. he carries a journal which he adds to often, either little blurbs or sketches of people he meets in his travels, ever observing from afar as an outsider.

he was actually a war cleric of mystra when i first multiclassed him because the idea of this man finding solace in his goddes during the worst years of his life only for that same goddess to tell the first person he's truly loved in years that he needs to kill himself is sooooo. anyway. but i decided to change it because war domain just wasn't doing it for me and also have you seen ilmater's whole deal?

also if he bears a close resemblance to my favourite unromanceable assassin's creed npc, that's just a coincidence (lying).

enya sparrowsong

romance: lae'zel (or meadow in the canon that exists in my head)

enya is landric's very alive daughter. i made her in the character creator with no intention of actually doing a playthrough as her, which is a lie i tell myself every time i open the character creator. 😔

ideally she would not even be filling the role of tav at all, but that's obviously not an option for an actual playthrough. she spent her childhood hunting and gathering in the wilds and later pickpocketing her way through the darkened alleys of baldur's gate to survive. in the version of her backstory that lives in my head, she eventually caught the attention of jaheira (by trying to rob her), who then took enya under her wing. the harpers became a family to her, and she is with them in the shadow lands when we meet them at last light in act two. also depending on my mood on any given day, enya and meadow are either bitter exes or couple of the year.

she is generally very abrasive with most people she doesn't know well (her and lae'zel are very perfect for each other), but has a soft spot for animals and orphans. she likes her solitude and it takes a lot of effort to earn her trust (there's a reason she's survived alone as long as she has) but once you do, she's ride-or-die.

she has a raven companion and her preferred wild shape is a wolf, but i've also had a lot of fun using her wolf wild shape and a wolf companion for twice the mauling in combat (and twice the torment for shadowheart—thank you sam for pointing out that she would fucking hate this 😭). i also like to think that she's been helping shadowheart get over her fear of wolves.

her relationship with her dad is deliciously complicated!!! but that's for another post.

i haven't played as her much yet, and she's my first durge so i don't really know a ton about that whole background. but her brain is currently scrambled egg and she doesn't remember her past so i figure it's fine if i don't know anything about it either.🧍🏻‍♀️

she's trying so very hard not to kill people, and making up for the lack of murder by being incredibly rude to everyone she meets [astarion approves]. i named her idunn because i like the name but also in large part because i think associating the dark urge with the norse goddess of rejuvenation and vitality is really funny.

aelius lucilius

race: drow half-elf

he's my newest tav and the one i've played the least, so i'm still working out his backstory. i honestly just really wanted to romance shadowheart as a selunite, which is working out great so far because the shar is already out of the bag and now she loudly and openly hates his fucking guts. 🤪

Romance anyone but Astarion challenge....

So I've done 3 playthroughs, and each time I fallen into the trap of making the same character and romancing Astarion 😶🙃

It's just so difficult not to. I love Phayelynn (my Tav) so much. She's the character I play in my actual DND campaign. And in my defense, the first playthrough I was so excited the game had finally come out that I missed a crap ton of stuff in Act One & Two, so it made sense to do another playthrough with her to make up for it. Then I did her again because I had decided to get mods and I needed to see her in all her new pretty outfits also, I wanted to use the mod that allows you to recruit both Halsin and Minthara sooooooo like.....

I love Phay with all my heart and as close to me as she is.... I really wanna try a new playthrough with new choices and a new class.

BUT

I know me, and I know even if I made a new character, I'm just going to be Astarion's juice box again.

Soooooooooo I made up a challenge for myself and I guess anyone else who faces the same struggle as I do 😂🤣

Keeping specific companions in mind, I made 5 new Tav's STRICTLY not to romance Astarion and the challenge is to see if I actually pull through and finish the playthrough with which companion I had intended them to end up with.

Elowyn, Ranger, Wood-Elf (favorite enemy: Mage Breaker, because we live for the drama- a wizard killed her family and destroyed her village??? backstory, is a wip)

Wyll's Tav

Renona, Druid, and Wood-Elf (uses her wild shape to change into cute animals, sneak into people's homes, and rob them. Not the kind of girl Ulder would want Wyll bringing home. She's a hot mess and gremlin besties with Astarion and Karlach. She's also like Viking vibes)

Shadowheart's Tav

Rhea, Cleric of Selune, Human (I really haven't fleshed her out, she's a noble- kinda want to give her Starfire vibes. I just really want to do enemies to lovers lol)

Lae'zel's Tav

Talice, Pladdin- Oath of the Ancients, Zariel Tiefling (I want her to have been besties with Karlach as a kid and when she got sold to Zariel she goes craaazzzy- but then years later she realizes she rather be a beacon for hope and save little girls from ending up like her long lost friend Karlach. Also, like huge Gamora/Angela from Guardians of the Galaxy vibes for her and Lae'zel)

AND LASTLY----- WHO I THINK IS MY FAVORITE JUST FROM HOW UNSERIOUS THIS CHARACTER WAS WHILE MAKING HER......

Karlach's Tav

Xaci Digglefiggle, Monk, Forest Gnome (First off- Digglefiggle---I'm crying 😂😂😂I used fantasy name genrator cause I've never made a gnome before and I fell in love. Xaci's family was caught in a forest fire and she was the only survivor- found by a group of Lathander monks, she was raised in their ways. Wanting to explore, she starts traveling around Faerun. Due to her secluded upbringings, she's unaware of how most treat gnomes, but she's still a little ray of sunshine and wants to prove that gnomes are just as tough as anyone else.)

losers playing ttrpgs... losers playing ttrpgs save me...

mike is running a multi-year homebrew ttrpg campaign that is basically just a combination of any rulebook the losers can get their hands on + anything they come up with. i know it to be true. the campaign started as a call of cuthulu campaign but it is now a terrifying mix of call of cuthulu, dungeons & dragons, and cyberpunk with elements from a dozen other games including star wars: the roleplaying game, warhammer, harnmaster and somehow alma mater(??? idk how. but i know this happened). richie was like. "mike man, i love you forever, you're great at this. but why don't i have magic powers?" and he pointed at ben's collection of d&d rulebooks he'd been browsing through and he sounded so earnest and excited that mike knew in that moment he was going to sacrifice the integrity of his cool mystery campaign so richie could cast vicious mockery (99% sure vicious mockery didn't exist yet... don't quote me on that but it doesn't matter because the idea of richie using it constantly is hilarious)

they've all been playing the same characters for years and they keep convincing mike to add more stuff so they're all like super powerful and mike keeps having to come up with more and more powerful enemies.

mike's dice collection is so so so cool he has so many dice, and whenever he introduces a new important character he goes out and gets dice that fit their theme and it is such a moneysink but it's worth it because ooooh pretty dice

after four occasions where the losers decided to adopt a random npc mike hadn't planned anything for, mike has started planning every single npc out down to the specifics of their childhood education. he has endless character sheets hanging out in his room with characters he's created that populate his game world.

okay hanbrough agenda time: bill is the most oblivious guy in the entire world. i know this. (he is the guy who looks at brokeback mountain and goes "what do you mean it was gay? why can't men be friends anymore?" this is based on that one passage at the beginning of the book where he goes on one of those "why can't the curtains just be blue because they're fucking blue" rants lol. he does not know what media literacy is. to me) and mike is. increasingly frustrated and feels like he's losing his mind. he is like head in hands because he asked bill to go to prom with him and bill was like "yeah sure man! sounds great, you're my bestie forever!", and he has no idea what to do, because how is this man this dense, so he just starts having all of his NPCs fall head over heels for bill's character and flirt like madmen. it is painful for everyone involved. except bill. who still has no idea what is going on. that is a very unfortunate month.

mike and ben hang out a lot and ben helps mike brainstorm for the campaign so ben has all this insider knowledge and mike will just look at him before something insane happens in the campaign. they'll like make eye contact and ben will be like holy shit holy shit holy shit :0 and mike just drops some insane new lore. it's very special to me.

I've seen many many terrible TTRPG and specifically fantasy DND style TTRPG takes. Many of them repeatedly and some even almost seeming the popular stance. And most of the real worst ones involve the ways players treat GMs. But the one I personally hate the most because of how LAME it is as well as showing utter lack of imagination is whenever people talk about dark/gritty/mature or horror based campaigns and there's just this consensus that any ancestry outside like bog standard fantasy human/elf/dwarf/orc has no place in it for being "too silly"". Like I'm sorry you're so bad at this whole fantasy fan thing you can't take a bird person seriously even when the player behind them is being serious. This is even worse when I see it and they're actively choosing a fantasy setting but also seem to only want humans and whatever the horror thing is. Bestie I promise you "Play a system that represents what you want" isn't gatekeeping it's trying to help.

So... last night my very first run of BG3 finally came to an end, and... I gotta say I am pretty emotional.

Summer (my Tav) has been with me for six years. I first created her for my first ever D&D campaign back when I was still in high school and I still had the possibility to play. Hers was the only campaign I got to see from start to finish, so she is very dear to my heart.

Many things happened in these six years. I graduated from high school, I played other campaigns that never got to have an ending (don't date your DMs, kids-), I got broken up with my boyfriend, I got into uni, I lost family members, I've had some of my highest highs and lowest lows, I got my first degree in Psychology... And all throughout these years I kept creating characters, I kept addind and removing and modifying and writing and drawing and it was all so much fun!

But I kept missing Summer. I can't quite explain what attracts me so much to her character. If it's the fact I was in a happy place when I first created her and so my emotions and feelings from that time still connect me to her, or if it's specifically because I got to play a whole campaign with her or even because not only I could play with her but my best friend was also along with me for the ride and we had a blast together. Whatever it is, I could never quite be done with her, you know?

One thing was for certain though. After the first two or three years her ending didn't satisfy me anymore. She was still so young, she still had so many questions left unanswered and so much potential. We were thinking of a possible sequel campaign for her and Arwen (my best friend's character and now Tav) but that's when our DM dropped us both. We were left wondering what we could do for them, what we could write and how. We weren't entirely sure which direction to take our characters in.

Then BG3 came out. I remember my timeline being flooded with Astarion edits (that damn song lives rent free in my head at this point), being so utterly confused at what the hell was going on and then slowly becoming intrigued. I remember sitting down with my best friend to watch a mega compilation of all the characters' romance scenes, finding the visuals so damn beautiful, being convinced I would be my usual freak self and go for The Emperor but falling hard for Gale instead. We so desperately wanted to play but neither of us had a PC that was compatible with the game.

Then my long distance friend reached out and told me he wanted to play long distance with me on Discord. It was all incredibly clunky and finicky but Gods I was so happy. He'd be playing from the other side of the country and streaming it for me, and I would pick all the dialogue choices in character. That's when my bestie and I had a eureka moment and thought "what if... what if Summer and Arwen's story wasn't over yet? What if they left Aegis to find new adventures and ended up in Faerun??". I was so fucking excited it is almost unbelievable.

We spent six whole months on this one game file and I enjoyed every. single. second of it. Six whole months of pure excitement and delight. The more I played, the more I tweaked Summer's character and backstory to fit the narration, the more I got inspired to write up the new chapters of her adventure with my best friend and the more I fell in love with her. I laughed, I cried, I launched myself into deep discussions over her character and why she would do or say certain things in each situation. I saw her easily slip back into her avdenturing habits, adoring each moment she got to spend under the stars. I saw her face her demons once again and with even more purpose this time. I saw her make new friends that she would want to spend the rest of her life with, I saw her fall in love with a man that truly deserved to be by her side... My little tiefling sorceress that plays like a barbarian, my pride and joy.

And it all came to and end last night. Her and her allies won the last battle, they saved Baldur's Gate, Gale proposed to her and she moved with him to Waterdeep to spend the rest of their life together. She got her happy ending.

Six whole years with Summer and I can finally consider her story complete. Perhaps she is so important to me because out of all the characters I created, she is the only one that finally got her whole character arc. A beginning and an end. And after all the harsh challenges she faced, after all the dangers and the pain and suffering... she finally got her happy ending. She got what she deserved.

Now, does that mean I am done with Summer? Absolutely not. There is still much to do, much to write and much to draw. I'm gonna have tons of fun thinking up extra little scenarios for her and her friends and what her life in Waterdeep is gonna look like as she finally gets to build a family of her own. But as far as I am concerned... her main story's complete.

And as I listen to Endless Spring and get emotional all over again, I want to thank @wolfhunter89 and @sheeplyquillwrites for coming along with me on this wonderful journey. Summer's story just wouldn't have been the same without you. I love you guys so damn much, even if I never say it. I can't wait to see what's in store for Arwen next. To many more stories and games shared together!

Hey!!! I just wanted to throw some Kingsley positivity your way because I love that tief so much. I hope we get to see him in liveshow! I want to hear about his adventures as Pirate King. I want to see how his relationship with Fjord and Jester has evolved over the years! I bet they visit him all the time. Getting up to all kinds of Darktow shenanigans. And if Beau and Yasha have kids now, I bet they think he’s the COOLEST uncle!! And he probably loves those kids soooo much because they’re Yasha’s kids and Yasha is his bestie. <3 Anyways ah I am always always thinking about Kingsley. Love him.

Aw thank you for this it made my day ;; MAN I DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF KING MEETING BEAU AND YASHA'S KIDS!! THAT WOULD JUST BE!! THE SWEETEST THING!! Thinking of how King gave Beau and Yasha flowers on that day he first woke up, how as Molly he tried to do a little magic trick to cheer up that one firbolg child and gave him one of his moon charms. Molly taking such good care of Toya...

Yeah, he'd definitely look after their kids for them. He absolutely brings them gifts whenever he visits--interesting little flowers and seashells and shiny trinkets that catch his eye. ALSO LUCIEN BEING SO SOFT AND HIS HEART MELTING AT THE SIGHT OF HIS NIECE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME?? Yeah. Kingsley would be so good with kids actually and I can see Yasha and Beau making him really feel a part of their family. I need to see King in the Reunion just for him hugging Yasha and telling his Love how much he missed her alone--

And you're right it would be just so fun to see King with Jester and Fjord again! I can't get over the fact that they all sailed together for years, have spent longer together at sea than the whole of campaign 2 lasted?? That's wild to me?? They definitely have some stories to share-- AND HIS REIGN AS THE PIRATE KING! Would do anything to watch Tal play as King Kingsley, I just feel in my heart that he would portray this dashing royal rogue exactly the same as Molly pretending to be Duke. That alone would be just so good.

And then...god. The fact that it's a oneshot to rescue Caleb and Beau, how Molly specifically had such an important bond with both of them, couldn't help growing so attached to them so quickly. Getting himself killed in the Lorenzo fight because it was Beau he was trying to save, because getting cut down when all he desperately wanted was to live, be happy, be loved--it was all still worth it as long as he made sure Beau specifically got away.

Seeing her and Caleb getting attacked in the Lucien novel causes him an agonizing physical pain, because he just can't bear to lose them. The moments when his Magician reaches out to him over and over and briefly shatters Lucien's control, reaches back to Molly's tormented soul. Lucien taunting Molly over and over, gloating to him, "I've won" as the Eyes start to brand Rumor and Magician. "Your Caleb and Beauregard," he says. Threatening to take away two of the people Mollymauk cares about most.

Molly holding onto the memory of a forehead kiss in his most painful moments, seeing Caleb as "Softness and light." Still flirting with him as Kingsley. He held onto the journal Beau gave him, afraid to open it at first, but--he still kept it. For the day when he's finally ready "to visit and learn," to slip away to Beau and Yasha in the middle of the night and ask them about Molly, because he's scared he might never get the opportunity. Beau and Caleb just mean so much to him, even though he's not quite ready to admit it.

But still, for them, for the Nein--he wants to be good to them. Do right by them. Be a better person for them:

"I've been told that the best thing you can do is do just slightly better than them. And that's...Honest to the gods, that is actually what I'm trying to do. I don't necessarily know what it's going to look like. I have thoughts. I can't see King confessing all that to Beau and then not immediately running to her rescue. I can't see him not rushing to Caleb's side when he hears the man he saw as "softness and light," the one he called out to right after Yasha, the one first cast the spell to bring him back to life--I could never see Molly/King abandoning him either, in any life.

I understand why Decues would be an interesting choice too--and honestly I would be down for seeing Tal play them both if that's possible--but. I feel like he could also be very involved in the solstice in his own way, whereas King running back to the Nein makes more sense to me? From a meta standpoint, Cad has a whole arc of growth and a family that loves him, a reason to stay. An entire story. And King? Absolutely breaks my heart when he looks at the Nein and says things like, "I hope I deserve to have woken up surrounded by such people." "Maybe those chains will find some quiet in piracy." And perhaps the most damning, "What else do I have?"

He loves the Nein. Died twice over for them and wholeheartedly believes in cannon, "It was worth it. It was worth it--" Even as he tries to cope with all these painful memories and messy feelings, tries to keep a bit of distance and tells himself he has nothing to lose like the rest of them. That's not a character that's in a good place, a happy place. Tal specified at the end of C2 that he throws himself right into piracy as an escape, a way to quiet the nightmares of screams and chains. (King also visits Deuces! Because it seems like he has these little doubts. Fears. A pain that haunts him, that he tries to forget--)

He never had the chance to really grow, or change--but he's starting to. And it's so fascinating, it would be such a shame if that got cut off when there's really the perfect chance for him to finally do what he always struggled with as Mollymauk--not run away from the past, no matter how terrifying and painful it is. Yes, Kingsley is born from a Divine Intervention. Yes, Lucien is fate touched, and Molly was born under a Ruidus flare in the Savalirwood. All of that makes him such a narratively fitting choice for the Reunion to me.

But I still think the most compelling reason of all is that King finally has the chance to own up to the past and realize what he did in his final moments as Molly, as Lucien--he loves the Nein too much to keep running away. He has them, not nothing--and they're worth all the pain and grief of his haunting memories.

Also!! King literally being born in a dream of the Moonweaver, Sehanine saving both Molly and Lucien's souls?? Tell me this isn't the perfect chance to explore everything Tal had planned for Molly's relationship with the Moonweaver. Taliesin barely got to scrape the surface with Molly/King, and I get so sad whenever he expresses that he wishes he had more time with this tief: "I've been working on this [comic] so long. It's all that backstory that I didn't get to tell because I am bad at rolling." "Kingsley's different. Kingsley's a different thing, a different vibe. And I was sad that I didn't get to really get into...a lot of that last time. In two games--"

And again, I think Deuces could be doing fascinating stuff in the solstice, and it would be cool to see his side of it. But I would just love to see King spend that time with the Nein--and I honestly think Cad could have just as fascinating an adventure with his family back at the grove. Some Clay stuff from an Episode of 4 Sided Dive that I keep thinking back on in light of the Reunion (this was after the Uk'otoa):

"'Look I'm kinda stuck here working on a spell. And my house. That needs to be fixed. I wish I could help...' Caduceus is dealing with the fact that. Well. His house burned down 6 months ago, and--thank you all for helping--you did [help a little.] It was great. But Cad is actually in the middle of...Caduceus was tired. He's--he's in the middle of resetting the Blooming Grove, which also requires casting of Temple of the Gods, which takes every day for a year. You gotta sit. And do it. So getting away would have been a little tricky. And yeah. Getting him out of his house six months later would have been...[He's in the] same place. Every day. for a year."

"[It takes] the type of effort that someone who was originally going to live in this place for their entire life can do. But...getting away is possible, but it's very very hard, because then you have to have somebody cover. Somebody who can do that cover. And not fuck it up. So I was like...I cannot justify him buggering out of home 6 months later. He had already--well. He put in his time. He'll be back out again."

And right now Ruidus is shattering enchantments that have held for years, decades, eons. And I feel like that probably knocked out...all those wards Deuces painstakingly reset in the Blooming Grove...And there's going to be some fascinating new friends and enemies--like the ancient spirit Umudara--that'll be released from the chains that bound them for centuries. Creatures who are all going to flock right back to the site of Molaesmyr, and likely stumble right into Deuces' home.

My ideal personally very self indulgent dream: King in the Nein Reunion, and then another oneshot of the Clays confronting all the spooky things that crawl out of the haunted woods on a red moon night--

this is a hard one bc i've realized there's a lot of books this year that i'd call "very good" but none that knocked my socks off the way that the raven cycle and harrow the ninth and piranesi and gravity is the thing all did last year. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is one of those very good ones though, and it's probably benefiting from recency bias but i really did like it a lot. ms. zevin is very good with her imagery and her characters and her symbolism and it was RIGHT up my alley. i went in expecting to like it a lot and was afraid i would be let down but instead i liked it exactly as much as i thought i would

oh man! i already answered this one but something ELSE i'm excited for is seeing bleachers live :] they're one of my favorite bands and they're the one that i've most specifically been wanting to see live and i'm SO excited to get to. maybe i've built it up too much in my head but i think it'll really rule

a bunch! i created like a dozen for my nano novel! not a ton of ttrpg characters but i did create Alessi di Nicolo, my most recent character for the Megadungeon campaign i play in. they're an order domain cleric and they're very concerned with justice. they're a healer and a genuinely kind-hearted person AND a massive hypocrite who thinks that they know better than everyone around them. lying is bad unless they're doing it <3 they're the type of character who totally will eventually get killed or excommunicated by their own church if they don't die in the megadungeon first. bestie <3

1. Akane Kurashiki (Zero Escape)

I am campaigning for her the hardest rn because yall she is going to lose this poll

Why is she doomed?: the narrative exists BECAUSE she is doomed. There is no narrative without her being doomed to suffer within it. Also, from what I've heard, she's ALSO doomed in the two other games in the series she's in!!! She CANNOT exist in this world without being doomed by the narrative no matter what you do to prevent it. She makes my brain explode

2. Mordred (High Noon Over Camelot)

The winner of the Mechs Poorest Little Meow Meow bracket :)

Why is he doomed?: He's a main character in a Mechs album. More specifically, the context of every Mechs album is that the band watched the stories happen and are now conveying that information to you through the albums. His story was over before it ever started, and his story is destined to crush his morals and leave him sad and alone as he dooms his entire world to burn. There was no avoiding this the second the Mechs started singing.

3. Lyfrassir Edda (The Bifrost Incident)

Why are they doomed?: They're a main character in a Mechs album. Okay but for real, their story was decided for them 80 years before the story even fucking starts. They're doomed from the second they start speaking and the only thing they can do in the narrative is learn just how fucked everything is about to get with absolutely no way to prevent it. 4. Ganondorf (Wind Waker)

That's my grandpa :)

Why is he doomed?: Ganon in every Zelda game is doomed to become the antagonist no matter what he does simply because that is the nature of the cycle they're all trapped in. Wind Waker Ganon feels (in my experience and the games I've played) the most regretful of how this cycle has ended up. He's tired, but he's not going to stop now. He knows his destiny is to die at the hero's hands, and he's going to fulfill it. But he's also not going down without a fight (though can you really say he's trying compared to some of the other Ganon fights in the series? He's almost easier than the boss gauntlet you do to get to him. He's so tired)

5. Porygon Evolution Line (Pokemon)

Why is it doomed?: because my bestie said so <3 and ey said so SO MUCH and ey are SO CORRECT, it was literally shadowbanned from Real Life for being in an episode of the anime with no warning for flashing lights, except it wasn't even Porygon that caused it. Literally got doomed from real life because of something it didn't do

BEST EXPERIENCE : Talking about tumblr specifically, I had sooo much fun during the Halloween Events we had here. I had an absolute blast seeing everyone costumes, the ball, fighting the gmax gorgeist...

Back in twt it was the Reguri Wedding with Kyle Red, which believe it or not TWO arceus attended, Spectrier Event in 2022 Halloween, and a thread with my bestie about Green asking their oc's hand in marriage while in a cute romantic boat date.

Maybe I should also mention that I got to play my first dnd campaign with friends I made here in tumblr and that was certainly one of if not the best experience of my life heehee

RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS : Hard question because I operate on auto for most of my life but forcing anything onto my muse. Sexual or violent. And, this never happened, but acting weird or saying weird things about Green's gender.

As for things I dislike even before writing with someone are simply not properly crediting the art you use if it's not yours. Or having a bunch of rules that are basically telling me I need to write a 20k words every reply for us to be mutuals and be extremely serious about roleplaying. Aside from the chronic brain fog I have, this is a hobby and supposed to be fun, not work!

Besides, English is not my first language and that means reading pages and pages of it certainly gives me a headache.

i’ll do the gifs tomorrow bc i remembered i had to be up at 6 tomorrow lmao but i can do some headcanons ok

mike and max will snark at each other for ages on end but the minute anyone else tries to hurt them, they will turn on that person with a fierce wrath bc sibling vibes, like yes i can make fun of you, no no one else can. except for other party members but anyone else, they better count their days bc the other will be there to defend them so fast it’s almost funny

they both talk about starting a band even though neither of them play an instrument or sing, they just think it would be cool but ultimately it’s not something they pursue with any real sincerity, though they do brainstorm band names together and then try to rope will into sketching some logos for them, which he does after some pleading from mike

mike is struggling with some detail of a campaign he’s writing when max walks up (idk at lunch or smth) and she asks what he’s doing and that’s how max gets into dnd. but only sometimes, she just likes to help from the sidelines, offering up details when mike needs them. they eventually end up working on a campaign together as max becomes increasingly involved with helping mike and it’s one of the best yet. they find that they work well together, even though they still snark at each other, it’s a little bit less and one time will like teases them that they’re finally getting along and they practically stage a fight to prove they’re not becoming besties, no shut up dustin!!! (they totally are)

one time, when lucas is away for a basketball game, max shows up on the wheeler’s doorstep barely keeping it together and mike ushers her down to the basement and she collapses on the couch and just full on breaks down and he’s not sure what to do bc they haven’t been friends like this before but in his logical mike way he goes over to her and is just like “what do you need” and she’s like, just get in here wheeler, and drags him into hugging her and so he goes and he just holds her until she calms down. she doesn’t tell him what happened but he can guess and he grabs her a pillow and blanket and she stays there that night. he’s about to leave when she asks him to stay with her bc she can’t be alone rn so he grabs a sleeping bag and lays it on the floor next to the couch. when he goes to turn off the lamp, she gets this terrified look in her eye but doesn’t say anything but he saw so he leaves it on. she silently thanks him and they go to sleep. despite how uncomfortable the couch is, it’s the best she’s slept in a while, though she won’t ever tell mike that

9. what is your favorite part of having this oc?

With Katya, I really love playing a charisma caster, more specifically a charisma caster who has no reason to be such. It's my favorite thing about sorcerers-- they didn't appeal to a higher power, they aren't super smart or talented, they're just like this. Katya can be as dumb or rash or faking both as I want. She's still got like +11 to her Persuasion.

I also really love how much of her story has been about love without being a romance. Everything she's done to get where she is has been out of love, misguided as it was, mistaken as it was. She's let me explore an aro-ace-spectrum character and honestly really help me come to terms with my own orientation, and having her learn love is not just one thing, all-consuming, with only one look to it has been really wonderful. There is love in grief. There is love in Grief.

With Peregrine, I love playing someone way more selfish, way more of an asshole as compared to my usual type, and watching how they react to people who are not that. They are out for themselves. They want their Father's approval and that's it. They have fellow party members but they are not seeking lasting relationships, they will be done with them as soon as they're all out of the Hells. That's the idea, anyway. I looooove playing them with this facade-- and it was kind of like that with Katya, too, at first. Peregrine talks a really big game about not needing anyone or anything but Bhaal's approval but they have been lonely for a hundred years. Put them in a pressure cooker, see how they come out. I also get to indulge my interest in cults when considering how growing up in the Temple of Bhaal formed them and their interactions within it.

In the Blood Feud AU, which is where my bestie and I are writing as if our respective campaigns aren't happening, I've really enjoyed watching them change as they are loved. It's also given me the opportunity to write some tasty tasty nightmares and horror scenes which I always love to do.

It's also just. Both places. It's just really damn fun to play and write a child of the god of murder. Like what does that look like? How does that inform their behavior, knowing they were so vastly different from any of their compatriots at every point of their life? How can they wreck shop in combat? How is that going to inform the relationships they're forced into-- what is the party going to think?

Also the designs for both Katya and Peregrine just go hard as fuck. I'm really really proud of them both.

Kelric Ashling has been in Ten Towns since just before the eternal winter began. He was found in the woods with the beginning of hypothermia and already frostbitten, losing his left ring and pinkie fingers. He was found by Ulrich Frostborn, played by @chaosqueer, a half-orc barbarian living outside of Brynn Shander. The two of them are basically besties, though Kelric would be confused by that. Ulrich, meanwhile, would be terribly hurt that Kelric didn't think they were besties. After all, Ulrich carved him prosthetics for his hand!

He has no memory of his life prior to arriving in Ten Towns, and so, after getting patched up, he stayed. It's been nearly three years of simply existing in this bullshit cold-as-a-witch's-rectum hellscape, but he doesn't have much else to do, so he stays and he does odd jobs in exchange for room and board, and funds to stock away for rainy days. He can do some fire magic, but has no idea how he knows how to do it, and lately it's been a bit ... out of control.

Since some of the settlements in Ten Towns have human sacrifice lotteries, he and Ulrich -- the two of them are often referred to as "The Ricks", although never to Kelric's face -- travel around to mitigate the risk of ending up on the lottery and getting sacrificed to the Auril, The Frost Maiden.

At the beginning of our campaign, Heliodora Arleccina, played by @natalieironside, a goth jester Drow bard, showed up in town, presumably for shits and giggles, and joined our little band of job-doers. She seems to be mostly inclined towards making money and enjoying shenanigans, and she's good at both, so Kelric is cool with her tagging along. A bard is always useful.

One of the ways I've been playing with his amnesia is that I'll roll a d20 to see how he reacts to certain things. He doesn't know all the spells he knows, so when Heliodora tries to Message him to work out a plan during a job, in front of the target, in public -- who we are meant to kill, subtly and without getting caught -- Kelric freaks out and accidentally ends up in a fight with the town guard in the middle of the market. During the fight, he also accidentally sets an inn very on fire, and lets one of their enemies go to try and save the people while the party flees the town.

I'm waiting to see how that one comes back to bite us later.

There's a massive Bumble problem -- abominable snowmen, which we've taken to calling Bumbles -- throughout the area, and the party has been running into them every time we leave town.

The Eternal Winter Bullshit has drawn a newly graduated ... *squints* druid??? maybe?? I don't remember, tbh. Her name is Danikka, but we've taken to calling her The Nerd. When she arrived in town, he felt a flicker of recognition at her robes, but couldn't place them. He may have unnerved her slightly when he approached, sat down, and stared at her as if he could will himself to remember something. Ulrich's gentle intervention was necessary as a third party to ease the awkward encounter.

Every so often, he knows or uses a spell he didn't know he had -- the scene below was because he used Druidcraft without even realizing it. The Nerd is helping him "learn" magic -- and he's gathering materials for her to cast a spell to hopefully restore his memory. Our last job was to retrieve an gem trader's inventory, and our reward was one diamond specifically because The Nerd needs it for the spell.

Kelric looked across the bar to where Danikka sat at a table, the Chwinga resting on the beehive she'd wrestled her hair into. "Hey, nerd!" Danikka looked up, blinking wide eyes. "Yes?" Kelric immediately groaned. "Don't answer to that, kid!"

Kelric is a very gruff, no-nonsense sort of guy. He's not a chatter. He fails to ask follow-up questions, and walks away from conversations the moment he feels he's done with them -- regardless of whether the other person feels the same way.

And then he walks back in when he remembers that he needs more information, like, where the fuck he's supposed to be going.

Honestly, thank gods for Ulrich, because Kelric would walk off without his head 90% of the time if it weren't attached.

He also doesn't know he's an Aasimar -- pretty much everyone assumes he's a genasi or a half-elf or something, thanks to the slightly pointed ears and the scales -- so when he never "sleeps" for more than four hours, he thinks he has insomnia. Ulrich makes him various teas to try and help, which Kelric drinks despite having Zukoesque ideas about tea.

He always takes last watch. He's a brandy man. Green is his favorite color. He's very impatient -- nearly barging into the rooms of inn guests in order to follow up on a flyer they left on the Craigsboard -- but thankfully, Ulrich is there to rein him in most days.

Mostly.

Oh, and if the Northlook Inn ever burns down, he'll save Ol' Bitey before anybody else.

🍛 CURRY AND RICE — what does your oc's typical dinner look like? do they usually eat dinner

hildegard. since he travels around a lot, he tends to eat stuff that can last longer and that's easy to have on the road. bread, cheeses, dried meats and fruits. tony. well. he has a notable and unfortunate dietary requirement, so generally speaking he just kind of does a Snake Meal of human flesh and whatever he has on hand, either leftovers or takeout or something he makes himself, and that keeps him going for about a week. girl dinner.

🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often?

hildegard. god what music do they have in dnd. spooky music from the sims 4. i think they'd like stuff that's pretty upbeat and intense, and songs that have a story. tony. dad rock and jazz. perhaps he peeps some more musical theatre bc of zivah. he likes to have something on in the background pretty often.

hi cutie! yes, i have thought about them! i mentioned them in chapter 4 but i didn't expand too much on them so here are all the juicy details for you, my fave non-binary dragonborn 💙

mike plays as mozikith, a green dragonborn warlock. his damage type is poison ofc, and his powers come from a bargain with a fiend, specifically asmodeus who is the supreme master of the nine hells. mike thinks he's so slick choosing him as his patron, because the true knowledge of asmodeus' form is hidden in the demogorgon's citadel, so him knowing how his patron looks like means he's a demogorgon slayer. dustin and erica think he's incredibly lame.

dustin plays as seebo, a forest gnome rogue! as a teen, he learned to pickpocket and rig card games to help feed his 10 siblings. once he reaches lvl 3, he chooses his archetype to be arcane trickster. he's friendly with woodland folk, so he quickly becomes friends with jeff's character.

speaking of jeff, he plays as tharivol, a half-elf druid. he's half wood elf, his fave wild shape is a deer because he thinks ramming someone with his antlers is hilarious but his most used once he unlocks it, is an owl. at lvl 2, he chooses his druid circle to be the circle of the land. he prays to silvanus, the god of wild nature, so aside from being friends with dustin's character, he also considers dot's character trustworthy because she prays to lathander, who is allies with silvanus.

gareth, on the other hand, is a dramatic bitch who plays as despair, a tiefling barbarian. he fights with mike a lot, because the reason he's a tiefling is because his grandpa made a deal with asmodeus before he was even born but they become friends through the sheer power of eddie's magnificent storytelling. he's a bit like the hulk, his secret is that he's always angry and for that, his chosen primal path al lvl 3 is path of the berserker.

donny plays as odorr, a half-orc sorcerer which is honestly my fave character i've created for this. he talks mostly in grunts and short sentences, but he's not stupid, just very reserved because he's used to people judging him for being half-orc. his sorcerous origin is wild magic, he doesn't really know where it comes from and that's his motivation to join the adventuring life. eddie doesn't make him roll for a wild magic surge each time he casts, he instead waits for the emotional moments and that's why donny chose that origin: he knew he could trust his dm to not fuck him over.

erica plays as boldhild, a hill dwarf paladin. she loved playing as lady applejack in the previous campaign, but she wanted to do something different this time, mainly be more sturdy. at lvl 3, she takes her final oath, the oath of vengeance. she was initially going to choose an oath of devotion, but after discussing it with eddie, they both decide that being driven by vengance fits her storyline better.

and finally, we have dottie as holly, a lightfoot halfling cleric! she comes from a family of artisans (they own a bakery), and she prays to lathander, the god of birth and renewal, making her a light domain cleric. she's fascinated by fire and controlling it, and associates with beauty and creation rather than with destruction. her first besties in the campaign are jeff, dustin and donny.
