Rand had to have known about the Deep’s dying. The town is small, those are his best friend’s parents, Donna had to have been friends with them and she knew about their death. So Rand had to have known that they were gone

Is that what urged him to finally call Rolan and Kian to come home and finish the campaign? Did Rand even tell Rolan he knew or did he just pretend he didn’t know because what do you even say after that?

Did Rand grieve? Did Rand sit up in the attic after hearing the news phone in hand wanting to call Rolan to talk to him, to give him some comfort because he knows what it is to lose someone? Did Rand almost call dozens of times but stopped at the last minute because he was reminded of all the times Rolan didn’t call him?

Did Rand finally call Rolan but didn’t admit that he knew he would already be coming back and just so happened to suggest playing d&d at the same time?

When Rolan agreed to coming home but didn’t tell Rand that he was already coming because of his parents did Rand feel betrayed?

Did Rand ever tell Kian that he knew that Rolan was already coming to town and that’s what spurred on the idea of getting them all back together? Does Kian feel betrayed that he was an afterthought to the whole plan?

Does Kian even have time to grieve the Deep parents as well? He knew them, he probably was over at the Deep house a lot growing up and no one even thought to tell him about their deaths. No one thought it was important to tell him.

Their deaths didn’t just hurt Rolan, Rand and Kian had to grieve over them as well. All of their friendships were so taunt by the time they came back to Galloway that it had to be difficult to say anything in fear of wrecking it more (in Kian’s case) or all that was left to do was to fight over all the little things because talking about the bigger issues is too much
