As I got dressed for NYE, I once again put on the comfiest jumpsuit I own: A sparkling gold and silver that I almost didn't buy. It was December 2019, and as I tried it on at Torrid and hemmed and hawed over whether it was worth spending money on when it was kind of deep cut and I didn't own any other jumpsuits, I had three separate staff members tell me how cute it was on me.
Obviously I bought it, and at checkout, I made an offhand comment about having New Years Eve plans that gave me a special occasion to wear it.
And the cashier said, "Or around your house. That can be a special occasion too."
That permission to wear what I wanted when I wanted kept me sane during lockdown. This jumpsuit got so much wear every time I was feeling down or just needed something to brighten my day as I spent months alone with my cat. I still pull it on to spend a lazy Saturday at home or like today, when I'm dressed several hours before I would have been had I put on one of my fancier dresses.
So here's me passing on that advice.
Give yourself permission to do things that bring you joy. Take that energy into 2023. Anything is a special occasion if you want it to be.
