i restarted my gloomstalker ranger Briar (an old save and fan companion i made MONTHS ago) in the same playthrough as my Default Dark Urge, but my self-indulgent pile of worms i call a brain has been constantly thinking about @meanbossart's Drow and @barbatusart's Myialmiashkmiath Shammael. absolute delights.

my train of thought went from "hee hee drow companion" to "hey what if. what if they were in the same camp" and briar's got high wisdom but her perception and insight proficiencies are worthless garbage she doesn't sleep. no way in hell would she figure out any companion mysteries without somebody explicitly pointing them out. as far as she knows, her new camp mates are just kinda silly. unsure if she knows if shammy's a dragonborn or just thinks he's a really big kobold.

had to be a little self-indulgent when it comes to the tavs/durges of my fave artistic duo....

totally havent spent the last 48 hours making bg3 shit instead of doing my job.

drawing a dragon is like the hardest thing ive ever done LOL hats off to furries (scalies?) this is like an impossible skillset for me. shammys not really attracted to non-dragonborn so he was like Deeply weirded out by everybody waving their stuff around at camp at him, he just wants to be best buds LOL. i missed minsc in my playthru but if shammy had met him he woulda been like, FINALLY

YES i had a custom named Shammael (shammy) who's a black acid dragonborn with a very sweet face!

i had a whole thing in mind for him like hes on a personal quest to find the hottest hot pepper in the land so he can bring it back home & win the annual chili cookoff & impress his dad. (Loves his dad.)

hes from a subset of acid dragonborn that i made up who actually need high levels of capsaicin in their food in order to even digest it so all acid dragonborn cooking is Ultra hot & the annual chili cookoff can only be eaten by acid dragonborn cus itll kill anybody else LOL. hes got 6 baby sisters (theyre all adults now) so hes a proud big bro, the sisters were actually surprise sextuplets so his parents stayed coupled to better care for All These Fuckin Kids.

he a very traditional dragon in a lot of ways & has a personal philosophy of not bothering to rely on the gods, but instead trusting in the gods' wisdom to make everyone in the world so different for the sake of learning from one another, & he cherishes being "the fool" as a road to that idealized wisdom.

SHAMMY FUNFACT a running gag i had during my playthrough was that shammy was constantly trying to play instruments but couldnt play them, the reasoning being that hes actually pro at stringed instruments back home (he hails from somewhere around tymanther) but all the instruments are in a scale with a ton of microtonals involved (sounds similar to albanian folk music) so he cant make heads or tails of diatonic scales all the instruments are tuned to in baldur's gate. it's ok tho he just jams anyway. GO SHAMMY!

You're a good pal... but Astarion should return the favor... in the emerald grove, near the altar where the druids are praying to the idol, near here volo is talking to the bear, there is a little path down to a beach with another bear standing there. Under a nearby moveable rock is an amulet that gives you a free minor restoration charge, which will remove 'bloodless'.

shammy seems like a guy who tries his best to be a Friend to All like Karlach but who were his bestest besties in your playthrough?

shammy 100% tried to everybodys friend via brute force kindness & whimsy whether they liked it or not LOL literally everyone was best bud astarion / best bud laezel / best bud shadowheart & so on. i think he only ever really got turned off by wyll & gale because he couldn’t cheer either of them up & eventually just gave up & left them to their own devices. then he Super wanted to be best buds with halsin & it seemed like a best buds thing was going to come to fruition until halsin started talking about how interested in dino dong he was & at that point shammy had been fending off so much genitals being flung his way that his eyes just glazed over & i think he went & like stood in the river at camp for a while just exhausted LOL. wrote a letter to his dad about it DEAR FATHER WHO IS MY FAVORITE FATHER, THE PEOPLE HERE ARE WELCOMING AND KIND BUT GREAT ODIN’S RAVEN THEY ARE OUTTA CONTROL IN THEIR UHHHHH PASSIONS 8(

Hiii I don't really have one specific question but I really want to know more about Shammy. Please use this ask to tell us 3 things about Shammy that you maybe hadn't yet gotten the chance to ramble about.

1. shammys considered a bard back in tymanther but he can’t be a bard on the sword coast cus he can’t play any of these weird fukcin elf & human instruments so he got forcibly respec’d to a ranger LOL. he throat sings which i know was played for laughs ingame but i genuinely adore throat singing so his music-making with the microtonal tuning & the throat singing sounds like a combination of altai + albanian + tunisian music

2. the most important thing in shammy’s life is his father and in close 2nd place is Family, & as a result the one thing that really shook him to his roots was the situation with ketheric thorm & shammy’s own failure to befriend him. the “fight” went that shammy misty stepped right up to thorm on that platform & tried to talk to him man to man (son to son, brother to brother, and so on) and speak to his heart - i think that deep down he knew that thorm’s heart was not that of stone like he claimed, but thorm didnt believe that to be so, & he actually took his own life & smashcut us right into the battle against myrkul. that shammy couldn’t extend his hand in friendship to thorm hurt him deeply, on top of encountering the fractured thorm family on the leadup to this encounter & finding the final note on his body from his child.

shammy at camp that night took a dragonborn instrument he’d purchased on his travels & sang a eulogy in memory of a man who believed himself wrongly to be beyond help. thanks to the worms everybody understood the words and lended a vocal hand. goodbye o ketheric, goodbye

3. shammy loves hats even though they don’t fit his big shoebox head & insists that he always be wearing a fun hat & everybody in the group also be wearing a fun hat
