I was sitting here thinking about why Sampo sounds so effeminate in the Japanese dub and why he reminded me of a bisexual male character from Ouran Highschool Host Club. In OHSHC this character is portrayed with a... I dont know how to describe it other than a "feminine way of speaking" because he's not straight AND he crossdresses for work. Sampo talks in a similar way to him - it's that way of speaking you always hear from anime male characters who arent straight.

But I couldnt figure out why I made that connection immediately, because these character's are completely different and have different functions within their stories.

AND THEN I remembered how the word  両刀遣い "ryoutoutsukai," is used as a slang word for a bisexual person but also means someone who is a two-sword fencer.

Sampo duel wields swords during battle... I've also heard that this term isn't really used in a positive way either - basically it's used to imply a someone who has unfaithful qualities about them. Basically someone who is disloyal and a cheater. Which doesn't exactly fit Sampo... because you know, we arent dating him. But he is very wily and he uses an "idiotic" persona to hide his true personality and intentions while he pulls the strings behind the scenes. So it's like...

Oh okay, that's interesting. Honestly I love stuff like this because it makes you wonder what Hoyoverse sends out to the dubbing teams and how each dubbing team has different ways to portray the character.

Another example of changing his character in subtle ways is the "museum theft "Mr. Cold Feet" quest, when you reject Sampo's offer he calls the MC 자기야 [chagiya] in the Korean dub, which means babe/honey and is a word used between couples. While in the English dub he calls the MC brother/sister, which doesnt sound nearly as smarmy as calling the MC honey/babe when they choose to turn Sampo in to law enforcement. I've also read that the Japanese dub is also flirtatious but I'm not familiar with "flirtatious" Japanese words, so I cant tell if he's being flirtatious or not. And I have absolutely no understanding of the Chinese language, so LMAO.

But yeah... very interesting... thank you Japan I will be taking this bisexual representation idc if he's evil or whatever <3

Screwed something up at work that ultimately effects 8 clients and 1 of them noticed. I did something that cross-wired their data so pairs of them can see each other’s data for something. I have no way of knowing which is belonging to which of the groups I messed up

I am just praying that a) this company doesn’t escalate things bc I desperately don’t want my manager to find out. Like it’d be more ok that I’ve caused this problem if everyone under the sun who is not my manager was involved and b) I hope the other companies don’t realize something happened there either. I caused a problem like this before (and am supposed to QA this but I didn’t get all the way through doing so which is just entirely on me) but that time it could be rectified bc the groups that got entangled with each other still had identifiers of who was associated with what data. But I messed up slightly differently this time and now /I/ can’t tell what’s supposed to go to who bc I’m not in their company. This is going to keep me so so freaked out all week

doing personality typology tests to potentially get a more solid grasp of what i like (and yes i am aware of the problems a lot of these typologies have but having some kind of categorical system makes it easier to pin down common trends) and wow is it reinforcing my autism diagnosis

like i’m doing an enneagram test and i’m already asking questions about the first question. “I’ve been known to be tough, bold, fearless, and confrontational.” ok is this about how others perceive me (i.e. the literal interpretation) or is about how i perceive myself? what if some apply, but not others? i wouldn’t call myself “fearless” (much less TOUGH lmao i am SO weak) but i am definitely bold & confrontational, it’s more that i am like this in spite of my fear/lack of toughness. i can’t say i “somewhat agree”, because i don’t somewhat agree, i agree 100% with some parts of the analysis and like 0% with others. that’s not the same as going “i’m sorta bold/tough/fearless/confrontational”!!

…and that’s not even going into the possibility this is about how others perceive me, which is difficult to point down while also potentially being as contradictory, if not more so!! i could be perceived in different ways by different people, each as varied/nuanced/paradoxical as the other!

One thing reading a lot has taught me about writing is that you (the writer) can contrive a situation that causes a rift in a relationship SO BAD that you can’t contrive a way to repair that rift that your reader will believe

I’m reading a novel rn set in present-day small town USA. It’s a bland but cutesy romance where the issues stem from basically normal dumb omitting-this-and-that bad communication. I hate that contrivance bc it’s overused and lazy but at least it’s a recoverable problem in a romance
