ex-boyfriend toji, who's constantly being pestered by megumi about you. you're not his biological mum, but the boy's formed an attachment to you and craves your affection and warmth. you're the closest thing he's ever had to a mother, having been in his life since he was 3, and he loves you like one too. his dad is all hard and muscles and frowny, and you're all soft and sweet and always smiling at him. it's no wonder his dad couldn't keep you, he thinks.

you never raise your voice at him, feed him the best home-cooked meals, and even help him with his homework (he doesn't actually need help, he just likes the way you let him sit on your lap whilst you're on the floor and wrap your arms around him, struggling to figure out what long division is). even after you and his dad break up you never once held it against him (like other exes had) and you never stopped visiting him.

you're hands down the best (ex) girlfriend toji's ever brought home. you actually made an effort to get closer to megumi and get to know him more often. always looking for fun little things to take him to. whether it's a petting zoo, aquarium, or a normal zoo zoo.

you learnt quickly how much he loved animals and never failed to surprise him with a new plushie. one could never have too many plushies, you said to him once, booping his nose and pulling out a cute turtle from behind your back.

(when he finally moved into the dorms in first year, he had about 3 boxes alone, full of stuffed animals. he didn't have it in his heart to pick and choose which ones to take with him, so he brought all of them. you laughed at first when you saw the flood of plushies on his dorm floor when helping him move, but megumi gave you a small smile, repeating your words from almost a decade earlier.)

fic rec adventures

idk why i’m actually making this (i haven’t read fic in months and my tastes are reliably predictable) but hey rec lists are nice i guess

favorite les mis ladies action

four (and four) - omg THE BEST EVER . this is the kind of content i think we should be promoting, like, universally, god. gave rise to my strong opinions about post-canon musichetta adventures

a flame-red ribbon - some more post-canon musichetta action! i actually haven’t read this (like a lot of these) in nearly two years but i remember it being suitably emotionally devastating

the last laugh - jghffh like literally everything ever i’ve wanted. favourite! enjolras/feuilly! not to spoiler anything, but sweet polly oliver antics! THE BEST EVER I’M CRY. honestly like one of the best-written fics in anything ever god

the earth laughs in flowers - a cosette character study! which is good shit all in itself and gorgeously written

favorite friendship fic

fraternite - god i know everyone knows but it would be blasphemy to leave it off. god. the best. canon as far as i’m concerned. amis origin story for anyone who isn’t caught up

blanket rec for eglantine on ao3 but a particular shoutout in this category to the tumult and the epistolary fic

london, paris - Kill My Poetry-Loving Ass honestly!!! i’m sorry i’m not very good at saying smart things about fanfic but honestly this is so brilliant god

oysters, cheese, and ham - five corinthe breakfasts with joly, bossuet, and grantaire. i love them very very much also grantaire is there fore The J/B Proposal, which is excellent on so many levels

i shall not fail that rendezvous - this is more death fic than friendship fic actually but let’s be real it’s BRILLIANT and the question is not whether i cry reading it but which ami i start crying at (feuilly it’s feuilly)

blanket rec for onlyacoffee because she’s brilliant but particularly for enjolras and feuilly talk pronouns, WEREWOLF FEUILLY, and this beautifully uplifting canon divergence

i know i already said ‘blanket rec’ above, but all that’s good in the jb(m) world centers around eglantine so - a new year, the continuations, the marriage farce fic, Harold They’re Lesbians and like again everything ever . particular shoutout for such a charming and lovely and emotionally touching bossuet that he’s ruined me for all the others

like i said above , Read All Of Ve’s Fics, but the BIG REC of the moment is five times feuilly came home, which is part of what actively got me on the enjolras/feuilly train (god imagine me not being on that train?? who would i be?) and also TRANS FEUILLY. see the light lads this is where the future lies

i don’t Do e/r anymore but back when i did you absolutely can’t go better than goshemily. a particular to the shoutout the one where tam lin (i’m nothing if not predictable.) but also the fake dating spies one and the communist bakery one.

and to be embarassing and close off with e/r anyway uh . i don’t know maybe there are people who follow me who weren’t in fandom back in the post-movie heyday and didn’t go thru old-timey Type Two E/R Big Timer blogs? and therefore haven’t read song of autumn? it sounds unlikely but there we have it

this is terrible and has like two fics that are under a year old but there we have it i’m an old woman whose fic habits are erratic and inconsistent. also on a non-les mis note: daily reminder to read the undiscovered country, a 50k hamlet retelling set in 1950s chicago.
