US-BASED SINGAPORE PHOTOGRAPHER LOSES SUIT AGAINST LUXEMBOURG ARTIST SHE ACCUSED OF PLAGIARISM
US-based Singapore photographer Zhang Jingna has lost her suit against Luxembourg artist Jeff Dieschburg for allegedly plagiarizing her work.

Dieschburg also displayed the work at an exhibition in Luxembourg and won a prize of €1,500 for it.
This is not the only time Dieschburg has been accused of misappropriating another artist's work and claiming full credit for it. The US photographer Bekka Björke has also accused him of doing the same with their photography:

Zhang has stated she intends to appeal the court's decision.

i'm not sure how many on radblr are aware of this, but there is an artist named Jingna Zhang who for the last year has been battling a very nasty court battle revolving copyright of her art after it was intellectually stolen by a man. Zhang is a photographer with a very beautiful and specific style (insta: zemotion), and a male painter completely stole an image of hers and entered his painting, a nearly identical replica, into a contest and won a cash prize from stealing her entire photo! Rightfully, Zhang was upset and got a lawyer after he did, and this went to court. Yesterday, it was announced she had won her lawsuit after the first time where she had to appeal the lower courts decision that it didn't, a huge win for copyright law in general, but it's soured by how much racism and misogyny Zhang has suffered over the year and it's now just as bad since she's won the lawsuit.
I just wanted to share her story and tell everyone to go show your support to her and other female artists. People, likely all men, were harassing her for a year and still to this day that the lawsuit was frivolous and she was "throwing a hissy fit" about him stealing her art, to the point they doxxed her. The cruel mix of racism and misogyny she dealt with is just vile, you can see some of the replies and threats shes received on her insta and twitter. This was the art in question on the left vs her photo on the right:

men are not creative, men steal every creative work under the sun from women and they act like chickens with their head cut off when women fight back. why won't the woman easily be pushed aside and let me steal what's not mine? why would this woman think she owns something i want myself? hope Jeff Dieschburg and his supporters rot and he becomes a penniless nobody for the rest of time and digs himself a shallow grave.

A reminder that I’m also on Cara! Come find me there too, creative friends & fans. I’ve been there since the start and it’s a great portfolio site + networking platform.
It can only improve from here thanks to its small passionate team and its founder @zemotion who is also an artist who cares deeply about artists’ rights.

I guess I'm disappointed but not surprised there's rumors Tumblr will sell user data to train AI models
So, I might reiterate, if you're an artist, use Glaze and Nightshade, and if your PC can't run it or if you're on mobile, subscribe to Cara.app, the social media for artists cause they have 10 uses of Glaze for free per day on their website (and no you don't need to post anything there to use it, but I do recommend it cause they filter out the AI garbage)
If you want to know more about Cara.app, I'll link the tweet of it's founder explaining it a bit

And least I forget, fuck genAI, the "future" y'all are "building" fucking sucks

Cara
Pause to see how artists are enjoying Cara so far, similar to how people experience Mastodon - the relief of human interaction and not having to compete with negative algorithms and viral content. But also, there is no such thing as an art market - the people who admire artists are other artists. The people who buy art are other artists. The art market or 'art buyer' is a ruse invented by money launderers, artists trying to gain approval and inspiration from the general public (like we have been forced to do on social media like Instagram, Twitter etc) is a losing game. I remember like 8 years ago wishing for a new art site (like DeviantArt or Elfwood at their peak), so glad it has finally happened and all it took to get a rush of signups - Cara has been around for years in Beta stage with a handful of users - was Instagram promising to scrape everyone's art for AI 😅
The only disclaimer is it's currently costing 12k(!) a month in server fees with an influx of 500k new users, and that once again will be funded by the art community itself, so Zemotion needs to get corporate funding at some point and then the enshittification will happen. Maybe there is another way but I can't see the art community being able to fund this in its entirety. But right now it's a safe and positive place to post art, also very nice to open the app and just see ~art~ and not some clickbait or emotional manipulation.
