Y'all do not see us justify Snape for some of his shitty attitude, so do not fucking justify their act of bully towards an innocent kid. Do not fucking do that.

Yes Snape regretted deeply that his best friend died, but I think he would have left the death eaters eventually regardless of that. A working class half blood going from DE membership to doing antifascist direct action? To abhorring blood purity? There’s more to that than losing a friend, no matter how much he cared for her. Lbr the other deatheaters were probably mocking him for his blood status since he joined, which he probably only did for a since of security and belonging, and he probably questioned it from the start. He likely also felt somewhat alienated in his friendship with Lily because of her class, and the same would have been far more evident in his relationship with the other death eaters, some of whom were basically aristocrats. Sure, at first, the gifts might have been nice, but the condescension they came with? That would’ve stung over time. He might’ve thought eventually he’d be accepted, fit in, but it never happened. His resentment for the other DEs grew daily. And then once he left, I don’t think he necessarily believed in “The Light”‘s stance. I think he was fighting against the DE’s because he believed in something, but I don’t think the Wizarding World ever became the world he strived for when he was fighting the DEs. Anyway, I very much disagree that Lily’s death/his friendship with her was his primary motive for leaving so much as it gave him permission to leave. It was the last straw.
