Happy 40th anniversary to "Star Trek III: The search for Spock" where William Shatner throws Christopher Lloyd into a river of lava on an alien planet, and one of the the visual effects supervisors for "Return of the Jedi" gleefully gets to blow up the canonical TOS Enterprise (and he's the puppeteer for the Klingon dog lol)
Seriously though, if you're not a fan of the woebegone tire fire Trek franchise, the 80's visual effects in this movie have held up well, even the butt plug shaped Spacedock. Shatner's bad acting is peak camp. The film score by James Horner is among his best, from which he reused themes in later scores (even for "Avatar").
saw a tiktok of a mother taking her very tiny daughter to an art museum and she’s just walking around going “whoooa” “woooaah” to everything but then they got to a marble statue of a nude woman lying on her back and the girl points and goes “mommy🫵” and i just immediately welled up with tears and all the comments are just laughing about it and of course it’s funny but how are you not insanely moved by the way art connects everyone on earth from a centuries-old sculptor to a toddler in 2023
I'll make a proper post later, but this is really, really important context for why the climate across the globe is in shambles right now.
Every climate agreement made thus far has been for naught. There simply isn't sufficient political will to trust the science and save the planet. Too many people in positions of power and influence simply do not give a damn about anything other than themselves and their own material gain.
