We may lose the battle (Taylor ever playing Mary’s Song on the Eras stage) but we will win the war (she has to release Mary’s Song - Taylor’s Version if she wants to truly own all of debut/self titled)
*evil laughter*

Every time Taylor sings Begin Again, I'm reminded how much I want to know what song she was listening to that he didn't get but she did. Just one of those throwaway lines I'm curious about...

You can acknowledge disappointment of a Democratic president's handling of certain issues/policies and also acknowledge that voting blue is the only feasible alternative to ensure Trump doesn't take back the White House - but I feel like this point has been made in every modern general election to ad nauseam
Not voting or voting third party has only contributed to Republican presidents getting elected (and re-elected) who enact sociopathic economic policies and abortion rights getting revoked.
Of course, there are other factors that lead to Republicans getting elected - most notably white people who feel constantly threatened by anything and everything. It'll always be forever a bummer to see white women vote Republican because that's what their loser husbands want them to do.
Everyone gets tired of the 'lesser of two evils' argument, but it's a valid one to make. I'm a progressive, but I choose to live in our current reality as opposed to a parallel universe where socialist utopia is magically achieved overnight. Harm reduction is important, and a Biden presidency will cause less harm than a Trump one. It doesn't mean one can't critique or work towards something better, but I'm old enough and have seen enough to know that sometimes you have to work with what you have and not what you wish you had.

The fact that Taylor was working on the TTPD section of the tour for 8 or 9 months means she was ideating and creating while literally on tour already doing a 3.5 hour show night after night. As if that wasn’t enough she was also releasing re-recordings, planning album rollouts, directing videos and actively recording stuff. Most creative people would be hard pressed to juggle more than one of those things at a time and she’s doing them all at once not to mention we know for a fact her output isn’t slowing down anytime soon thanks to rep & debut tv + directing a feature film like!!! the size of the creative bandwidth in her brain needs to be studied.

Ok but I’m still gagged by the choice of the white dress covered in her spilled ink for the TTPD set.
The way it’s almost certainly meant to reference a wedding gown just like the music video and how that ties into the narrative of TTPD in general.
The way so many of these songs are about how she’s been wronged and how she’s angry.
The striking image of her floating around on stage unleashing her anger in Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me, or her collapsed on the platform in Down Bad begging to be beamed back up to the space ship. Very much giving dying on the altar waiting for the proof (in both meanings). She’s the jilted lover and the runaway bride. She’s the old widow who goes to the stone everyday and she’s the girl heading towards a shotgun wedding if she keeps this up. She's the unhappily married woman whose life is turned upside down by a man beyond her reach, with the chasm between them widening the longer the set goes on. And then!!! she's taken away (held back?) by the nurses at the asylum -- the crazy wife being committed for hysteria!!! (Actually I don't know what order that comes in in the set -- I'm going to have to find better videos.)
She said that the TTPD set is Female Rage: The Musical, and a lot of that is "I'm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free." She sacrificed her youth to her demons and to people who never had her best interest at heart. She sacrificed her youth to bad actors who wanted to ruin her. She sacrificed her youth to men who traded promises of commitment for their own safety.
So to see that all symbolized in the white gown, saying "I love you, it's ruining my life," is so powerful. By the time we get to "The Smallest Man," she's covered up in the band (or army dress?) uniform, those dreams finally dead and buried, marching to her own memorial service. They all finally kill her, and her dreams of her future.
IT'S A LOT. A LOT A LOT A LOT.

read literature. be present. make love. make tea. write a poem. cry. watch a sappy movie that makes you want to throw things at it. paint your nails. cook something. call your best friend. learn an instrument. wonder. take a bath. go for a walk. lie down on the grass. listen to the entirety of ur favorite album from 2016. take pics of sunsets. ponder. shamelessly dance in your room. curl up on your bed. make endless wishes to the stars twinkling in the midnight sky. think about nothing. think about everything. think about things so hard that you barely remember what happened moments ago and why you’re feeling the way you do

I know I’m not the first to say this but i can’t stop thinking that as much as ttpd is confusing, Taylor really lays it all out with “In Summation”, the album’s poetic epilogue. The obscuring of muses. The hit she’s taking in the name of being seen as more human by bringing all this up again. The murky shades of her choices. The desire to never go back there. How she ended up there in the first place and the layers of mental illness she is working on and feeling through. The whole thing is there!!!
At this hearing
I stand before my fellow members
of the Tortured Poets Department
With a summary of my findings
A debrief, a detailed rewinding
For the purpose of warning
For the sake of reminding
As you might all unfortunately recall
I had been struck with a case
of a restricted humanity
Which explains my plea here today
of temporary insanity
You see, the pendulum swings
Oh, the chaos it brings
Leads the caged beast to do
the most curious things
Lovers spend years denying what’s ill fated
Resentment rotting away
galaxies we created
Stars placed and glued
meticulously by hand
next to the ceiling fan
Tried wishing on comets.
Tried dimming the shine.
Tried to orbit his planet.
Some stars never align.
And in one conversation, I tore down the whole sky
Spring sprung forth with dazzling freedom hues
Then a crash from the skylight
Bursting through
Something old, someone hallowed,
who told me he could be brand new
And so I was out of the oven
And into the microwave
Out of the slammer and into a tidal wave
How gallant to save the empress
from her gilded tower
Swinging a sword he could barely lift
But loneliness struck at that fateful hour
Low hanging fruit on his wine stained lips
He never even scratched the surface
of me.
None of them did.
“In summation, it was not a love affair!”
I screamed while bringing my fists
to my coffee ringed desk
It was a mutual manic phase.
It was self harm.
It was house and then cardiac arrest.
A smirk creeps onto this poet’s face
Because it’s the worst men that I write best.
And so I enter into evidence
My tarnished coat of arms
My muses, acquired like bruises
My talismans and charms
The tick, tick, tick of love bombs
My veins of pitch black ink
All’s fair in love and poetry
Sincerely,
The Chairman
of The Tortured Poets Department

"The spring of your life lasts until you're 18, your summer up until 30, then you pass into autumn and-" Are you crazy? Are you insane? Every year I live through spring and summer and autumn and winter, I feel the first warm wind in my hair and I watch the rain of magnolia blossoms. I smell peaches in my sun-warm kitchen and feel grass tickling between my toes. I watch the bats dance in lilac dusk and stain my fingertips with blackberries. I have tea on dark mornings and stop to admire the crystalline spiderwebs. Life is a constant delight of ever-changing seasons and I get to experience it again and again, to the fullest, every year, at every age.
"you're a blossoming flower until you hit 25" — I blossom every spring. What are you talking about?

I truly just see Taylor and Travis as endgame.
the way she’s glowing is something I’ve never seen before (fan since debut)
he wanted her from day one with pure intentions. He supports her and shows up for her. He’s proud of her but doesn’t name drop for money, he lets her shine.
While I don't really agree with assigning labels like 'endgame' to real-life couples because I think it detracts from their humanity and exists best as a term used for fictional characters, I 110% agree about the lightness aspect. To be fair to Taylor, some of that lightness was starting to exist before Travis came into the picture (we could see it on the eras tour for example) BUT it was absolutely acclerated by his warmth, openness and their mutual willingness to build strong foundations and face all their Stuff together, never alone, as a team, always equals. I'm going to quote Taylor herself here and say, "Are you gonna marry, kiss or kill me? It's just a game but really, I'm betting on all three for us two."

Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me
