Alternate alicent’s wedding dress

I made some alternates for these redesigns. So many different directions to go, so many variations in shape and inspiration. I think there is too much red in this one somehow. But I was unsure about the Byzantine headdress in the first variation for a bit before I fixed her veil so I wanted to try a different veil shape entirely.

Historical mermay prompt 6: Rococo Mermaid

Does a.... kraken-maid count? I'm going to say she counts for Mermay. It’s rococo so it had to have pastels, ruffles, and covered be in roses/bows. Based at least a little bit on my fave reference for the era, Madame de Pompadour.

Hi, I just wanted to say that I Adore your work so much! Your art is so beautiful! Sometimes I just sit there and look at one dress for ages just trying to take in all of the details you've stuffed in.

I love all of the historical bits you add, and the fabrics and the colours, and the jewellery and everything! I love the conflict in the hotd redesigns especially, with the targ/byzantine vs the westeros/more classically medieval, its so juicy, and you play it out so beautiful in the designs you've done.

Can't wait to see what you do next! you are possibly my favourite artist ever, all the love!

Hi there!! I was wondering if I could cosplay one of your designs, specifically Chel in her huipil. I’m a huge fan of your designs!

Thank you! I’m all for people making cosplays with my designs! My wish is that anyone who does, does so knowing that since many are historically inspired illustrations they may be representing a very specific region and culture. If that’s you, amazing. If it’s not… maybe think a little longer on the why and how, maybe there’s something you want to adjust after you’ve done some research. My only “hard no” is my Tiger Lily illustrations because those are straight regalia and very explicitly not costumes. My other designs generally have some sort of character specific twist to them that leaves more room for interpretation.

Hopefully that all makes sense? I’m not much of a writer I’m afraid, so hopefully my point doesn’t come across weird or condescending. These things might be things you have already taken into consideration and that’s great! I just want to make sure the bases are covered and anyone else who might be looking for the same answer goes away with my blessing and my forewarning. Happy creating!

Something to consider for future coloring books is that some of the details in the first one are so tiny that they are really hard to color. They look absolutely gorgeous on the page, but unless the colored pencil is sharpened to a very stabby point, they're so so small that smudging is impossible to avoid 😔☹️

yeah, I was noticing that as well for the first volume. I like the size of them on the page but the tiny details on/around the face get a little small. I did make the figures in volume 2 larger so that should help. It poses a challenge with some of my fantasy fashions though because I drew those rather small (all those years ago to keep the file size smaller) to start so unless I can problem solve something I might have to re-illustrate those. Historical Mermay 2024 prompt 4: Goryeo Dynasty

I know, I know, the mermaid hair is my Achilles heel. Other than her jeogori (I’m pretty sure I’ve got the right name) there aren’t many clues to the specific time period. So what happened? I…remembered ‘Legend of the Deep Blue Sea’. How does my brain work? Easy. Goryeo reminds me of Faith/The Great Doctor, Faith reminds me through Lee Minho of Legend of the Deep Blue Sea. Which, as a mermaid live action media, left a big impression on me. Bada-bing, bada-boom, lily pad/lotus pond scene as reference images. I haven’t had much inspiration for stronger backgrounds so far, so this wasn’t something I wanted to pass on. I think she turned out really cute at the very least.

All of Rhaenyra’s redesigns

One of the best parts of these redesigned series is the ability to look at the character's costume arc and compare it with their costume journey. Seeing the things that remain the same, the things that change in small ways over time, and things that take a specific style change. Things that the character has made a conscious decision to say with their personal style. If I have done my job right, you'll see what I see.

would you ever post a video of your art process?? i love your paper doll style so much i just want to study it hahahah

Yeah! I have in the past for sure, but Tumblr doesn't like longer videos so most of my process videos are on my tiktok. I wouldn't say they are quite tutorials but I've been toying with the idea of making a longer video series about the process, but sketching and inking takes so much longer than the visually stimulating part so algorithms don't seem to like mine. Probably a me problem, I'm not so good at video editing yet.
