just a vent about people taking advantage of other people's vulnerabilities and vulnerable situations
I'm going to have to vent about this because it's really bothering me. Thankfully, most of my experiences have been positive, but some people don't seem to understand what commissioning something from someone means. And yes, I've seen baffling stories of people who basically wanted things for free and then got mad when they didn't get them. I don't want that to happen to me. I already wrote something for free. This user did not comment on what I wrote at all and I saw zero money. And this was for a show I had almost forgotten. And now they want to have something else and want me to plot the story like... I do love writing, but the reason I'm charging for writing (and it's very little money because I really need it and since I'm not a big name, it's writing, and I know how it works) is again because I need money. I know I write fast and brainstorm fast when given a vague concept, but God, this is making feel so awful, honestly. It's disrespectful. It's genuinely disrespectful. I write something, I see no money for it, not even a peep about it, zero comments on the writing etc. and suddenly 'well, actually now I want something else, give me ideas for this vague concept'. And this is triggering me because I really don't want confrontation, I am done with that because online I always get upset and lose my cool and because I lose my cool I'm the bad guy.
You don't ask your friends for free content, maybe you suggest it, maybe they give it to your as a gift, but that's it. So what makes you think it's okay to ask strangers for it? 'Oh writing is easy, it's not like I'm asking for an art piece' is these people's mentality and I'm like 'buddy... if it's easy, why don't you do it yourself? Why am I being tasked with it if it's so easy?' I know I'm an easy target because again I'm a nobody and I have very little confidence in what I do, but I'm not stupid. I need money, so I'm not going to waste my time working for free. As much as I love writing. I hate that this is making me cry. It was a blow on my already low self-esteem to write something for someone and get static silence about it. This isn't a taste test. It's not 'first one is free!' like, of course, if you hate it, by all means, don't pay for it, but tell me you hated it. But to get something, not comment on it, not pay for it, and then ask for more? I'm sorry, but fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
