"you're going to get in trouble", eiji whispers but michael only snickers and continues doodling on ash's face.
eiji is sitting on the floor where ash had laid down a few moments ago to take a nap. ash uses the book he was reading to cover his face and rests his legs on eiji's lap. michael decided that he absolutely must use this vulnerability and quickly fished out a marker for himself.
presently, ash's palms are covered with flowers, with weeds reaching a little over his wrists. satisfied with his artwork, michael leaves the rest of his arms and moves the book away to "beautify" ash's face.
"do you really think he's sleeping through this?" eiji reasons, sipping his tea.
that shocks michael. he pokes ash's cheek twice, it doesn't get him any reaction. "no, he's definitely sleeping." he pats ash's head. "good for you." he says and proceeds to draw an inverted triangle on the tip of ash's nose.
eiji smiles softly.
for the fifth time in the afternoon, ash softly - and almost inconspicuously - nudges eiji's abdomen with his foot twice begging for help. eiji smiles to himself as he makes no attempt to physically stop michael.
michael has now drawn three whiskers on each side of ash's face. "i think you should draw hearts to complete your masterpiece," eiji suggests.
ash chooses that moment to open his eyes scaring michael in the process. michael is quick to get on his feet and starts running, screaming and laughing through the room. ash chases after him making empty threats to add to his pretense of being the pissed off big brother.
eiji laughs with them as he fishes out his phone. "ash, look here." he calls out catching him off-guard. he quickly snaps a picture for himself.
ash lunges at him to get his phone but eiji is quick to duck and bury the phone under him.
"delete that!"
"no!" eiji laughs as ash tries to tickle him to fish out that phone. "i'm using that as my wallpaper."
"don't you dare!"

"Do you remember?" Ash asks, his palm digging in his cheek, his hand hoisting his head up. "It rained just like this when I first came here?"
Eiji smiles, reminiscing that day. He settles on his side of the bed, joining Ash in his rain-gazing activities. "I do," he huffs. "I was checking the forecast every hour, waiting for the rain to stop." He snorts. "Just thinking about it is making me anxious all over again."
Ash turns and reciprocates the smile. "Aw, my poor Eiji must've been so worried." He coos in a mocking tone as he takes his lover in an embrace. He can feel Eiji rolling his eyes. "But, to be honest, I'm glad that the skies remained clear till the time I landed in Haneda airport." He kisses the fluff on top of his lover's head.
"Me too." Eiji returns the embrace and they stay like that, enjoying the comfortable atmosphere that the rain has created for them. In between the pitter patter of the drops, Ash can hear his heart pounding in his chest. He's sure Eiji can hear it too because he's moving his thumb up and down along Ash's side in a comforting rhythm.
When the thunder strikes, Ash asks his question. "Do you think our flight will get cancelled?"
Eiji pulls his face out from the embrace and shrugs. "I don't know, love."
Ash glances at those fierce drops, that keep changing their tempo non-periodically, and sighs. "I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight."
While he is, mentally, at a much better place than where he was a five years ago, he is unable to subside his apprehension. And Eij feels the same way about their one month trip to the States.
But he is curious to know how his little "family" is doing there. And that alone fills him with conviction.
Everything will be alright.
