P keeps saying she has all this proof Sam and Sarah are dating. Why oh why doesn’t she divulge it? She can scoop everyone else and isn’t that her goal? And in a reel she put out yesterday, and is now gone, it showed her learning chess from her son with what looked like coasters. They were sitting in a large room and other people were sitting off on the side, an older, balding man in particular. So I guess it’s not too remote.

I believe you are quoting something @outlanderskin posted. Anon, you don't know anything like the rest of us. I don't think Sam is everything you said, but I understand why some people think that and are spiteful when saying what he is or isn't. Although, I don't think that kind of feeling is necessary.
I believe Sam is deep (listen to him reading his letter to the Lyceum). But I think he doesn't show who he really is. This Sam that you consider as "self-absorbed, money and fame hungry" is just a guy who now has the means to not go back to the difficult times he's already been through in his life... Who thinks about ensuring a comfortable future for himself and his loved ones. I don't think much differently about Caitríona... Although I have my reservations about C allowing her family and friends to get involved in this circus, like they did.
Do I agree with everything Sam does? With this shitshow? Definitely not!!! But I also know that this won't change anything. And if I fed this anger that you carried in your words (because you seem to take this seriously), I would evaluate myself and not who Sam is or isn't. I can't change him, but I can change who I am and what I do. 😉

I feel similar. I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this past weekend. I really don’t give a rat’s arse what people do, but I dislike the games. When you’re a celebrity I do believe you have a degree of responsibility to your fans. Either stay quiet or share whatever small amount of your life you wish to. The games are disrespectful. I never thought I’d say this, but because of this I have a growing disinterest in it all. Whether it’s orchestrated by Sam or his PR, it’s having an opposite effect on me and I’m sure I’m not alone. Do they really think we’re idiots?
Celebrities/Public Figures do have a degree of responsibility to their fans. They not only dictate fashion but also behaviors and opinions. It would be naive to ignore that both Sam and Caitríona influence their fans. Because this happens to all celebrities and their fans.
But this responsibility also extends to the field of feelings. Because for better or worse, celebrities/idols awaken this in their fans... Feelings! Anyway, this happens like in all relationships. Even among celebrities and their fans... Many of them (fans) feel close to their idols. I know this idol-fan relationship and its limits can be complicated.
These breadcrumbs that Sam/Cait leave for this fandom to build different stories/fanfics and theories, just as they decided to show themselves publicly to this fandom, and not just to public media, does not show an ounce of respect for people's feelings here.
Most of this circus doesn't make it into magazines and gossip media. There are no articles linking Sam to Gia Marie, Anna Modler AKA Anna Dier, Katrina Komitsch, Karina Elle, etc. Precisely because this is done for us and not to be sold in magazines, who are not worried about an actor who doesn't sell as an A-list.
I think all of this, over the years, has generated a vicious circle. Because many in this fandom also stopped respecting them and started to hate Sam/Cait and other fans who still believe what they used to believe.
And I believe Sam/Cait act the way they do (for years) also because they're so pissed off about all this shit (even though they need it). It's a toxic relationship between them and their fans, and between us. I don't like to compare, but this fandom often feels like a war scenario, and Sam/Cait never collaborated to try to change that. Sad but true.
In the end, they and we are all responsible for this shitshow!!! 😕

I don't think it ruined OL, Anon. I doubt Sam hasn't brainstormed with Caitríona about this before. And I think they thought of the younger actors, because truth be told, both Sam and Cait were very exposed at the beginning.
