I’ve kinda resigned myself to the whole “Alicent and Rhaenyra are the center of HotD” thing for a couple of reasons (mainly because I can laugh at the fact that Aegon is a side character) but that got me thinking…
Criston Cole is not a character I can see reconciling with Rhaenyra or even respecting someone who does. How far into S2 do you think we’ll have to wait for him to betray Alicent? Because he was very comfortable listening to Aemond call her a fool, that and the fact that he cuts his hair (which I think is symbolic of his character altering in some way).

TG stans constantly complain about how "Rhaenyra was a threat" to Alicent's children. What I find interesting about that is not once in any scene of HOTD does Rhaenyra threaten her siblings' lives. Meanwhile, Alicent and her sons threaten Rhaenyra's children's lives in almost every scene they're in/discussed.
In episode 5: Alicent summons barely born Joffrey to her chambers; knowing how vulnerable newborns are. Criston pits teenage Aegon against prepubescent Jace and Aegon would have seriously hurt Jace if not for Harwin's interference. Alicent harasses both Viserys and Aegon about how Rhaenyra's children are bastards; something that could very likely lead to them being executed or exiled if Viserys chose to listen to her.
In the scene where Aemond loses his eye, that happens because Luke was trying to defend his brother. Aemond not only was about to bash Jace's head in with a rock, but also was screaming about how he and Luke would die screaming like Harwin. Then Alicent tries to stab out Luke's eye, something that would kill him (she was holding the knife to thrust it down and stab, not slash like Luke did).
From the first episode Rhaenyra's children are present, Alicent and the other greens are threatening their safety and lives. Even in the scenes TG stans point to the most often as "evidence" of the "danger" posed to Alicent's children, it's Jace and Luke who are actually in danger of being killed. It's Rhaenyra's sons who are being constantly threatened by the greens and it's her son who is killed first in the Dance. The greens are the ones who threaten and kill innocent children, not Rhaenyra.

As a Targaryen, the easiest course of action you have when faced with a problem would be to simply get on your dragon and burn defenseless people.
Which is why Jace setting off and establishing diplomatic relationships with major houses will always be more impressive to me than the 19 y/o who burned a whole region in a pissy fit or his brother who took part in the bloodiest sack in Westerosi history.
Killing is easy when you’re on a beast high above the air facing people who can’t even outrun your flames, but convincing people to pledge their loyalty and men to your cause with words alone is hard.

what’s funny about jace hate is that most of the people talking about him negatively are the same people who will tell you that he’s “so boring.” the same people that live off of fannon about aegon and aemond being dutiful sons, caring partners, and apt political strategists aka everything jace already is.

fiction mimics reality in the sense that mary i is remembered as ‘bloody mary’ despite having only executed 300+ people during her reign as opposed to her father who executed 50,000+ people during his. cut to rhaenyra who is remembered as ‘maegor with teats’ because she raised taxes after tyland lannister hid the royal treasury right before she retook king’s landing; all while her half-brother aemond was complicit in massacring the riverlands and the wiping out of house strong, along with her *other* half-brother daeron being liable for the atrocities that are bitterbridge/both battles of tumbleton. funny how that works.

the irony of TG calling Rhaenyra a “boy mom” derisively is not lost on me , especially when covering up for and uplifting your rapist son is the most “boy mom” thing to do.

I’m convinced none of you actually read my three sentence post because if you did you’d see that my issue isn’t even with what Alicent says, it’s that her words are taken as truth by fans who are more willing to believe that Laenor was off drinking and fucking on the night of his sisters funeral to defend her unnecessary attack against Leanor here. Open secret or not, it was a jab at his homosexuality meant to ridicule and shame. And even if he does have a history of doing those things, to say he was on this night is a stretch given his open and profound grief.
Also, can any of you actually hold an argument without shifting the entire point to “b-but Daemon” “b-but girl boss Mary Sue” ?? This was about Alicent and Laenor. End of.
Mind you, these are the same people who will write literal essays on how Alicent is flawed and complex. They would rather defend Alicent’s assumption that a gay man—who was in the sea going mad with grief hours before—was away ‘entertaining young squires’ than admit that an aspect of her character is that she is bigoted.
Like, why are YOU—a 21st century civilian—agreeing with the conclusions of a woman clearly just trying to out Laenor/shock people???

no, ‘girlboss’ is not a valid criticism of a female character, *especially* if you’re only using it in relation to women who fight outside the constraints of an inherently corrupt system. you’re just a misogynist.

RHAENYRA TARGARYEN
“The singers dubbed her the Realm’s Delight, for she was bright and precocious—a beautiful child who was already a dragonrider at the age of seven as she flew on the back of her she-dragon Syrax, named for one of the old gods of Valyria.”

Dragons going extinct because of misogyny is actually crazy when you think about it and then hundreds of years later a little girl being the one to bring it back is so poetic like Dany really is the one.

people will get up in arms in this fandom when you don’t find their favorite ✋🏻 boy attractive but then are utterly silent when the poc and queer cast receives targeted hate speech smh.
