Marrow's thoughts on Myrkul or more specifically Balthazar?

It was a pleasure to kill him. It's not that Marrow has a personal hatred for Balthazar, no, but throughout her journey, she's been trying and trying to control her dark nature. Not always successful tho. But in the battle with Balthazar, she could really let herself be free in her cruelty. Because what could be better than killing someone who is so eager for immortality? On the other hand, she saw in him a good enemy, and this teased her desire to break in a dangerous fight. Marrow likes when rivals are potentially stronger than her. Her style is to survive with 1 HP yeah...

If we talk about Myrkul and his followers, she has always found them disgusted, before and after amnesia. At first it was disgust for Bhaal's enemy, and after that it was just another problem on her path. She's also not a fan of necromancy and prefers fresh meat :3 And the feelings of killing a living being feels more real to her than killing another walking dead body

About Marrow's resistance and choices

Marrow resists Bhaal and her Dark Urge nature. Yeah, we know we draw her as if she is evil, but no, guys, she has her own way. And not like noble and good way, the resistance works really badly for her actually. In our headcanon, despite all attempts, she sometimes loses control, commits hidden and open murders, waking up in unfamiliar places far from her camp, naked and covered in blood, with the taste of meat in her mouth. Alfira was not her last victim. Yes, Marrow did not kill "plot-important characters," but the price was just random victims. Innocent and defenseless victims. Sometimes, her Urge is so powerful that she becomes a risk to even her allies in battle, and Slayer's form in her story is not a reward, but a curse — a form in which she loses all control and attacks everything around her. In the game, it would look like random checks during and outside of combat

On top of all this, she's got headaches, insomnia, constant hunger, nausea, twitches, and other unpleasant effects to deal with…. This girl lives in angst :’)

And all this struggle isn't for the sake of heroic deeds or moral righteousness. Her morals are rather gray and questionable, but what she really desires is freedom. Be yourself. Be the person she was in some distant past that she can't remember, before she became the Dark Urge. That's her wish for Astarion too — he doesn't need to be anything more to be strong. And that's why she supported him to abandon the ritual. They're both still little monsters, but monsters don't mean evil

Marrow was on the Druids side. It's hard to call it a choice. Tbh, she almost refused to help them and would have preferred not to waste time on conflict, but pressure from Karlach and Wyll convinced her not to lose good allies. Her reputation in Act 1 is absolutely terrible and hardly anyone really believes her, so she didn't want them to turn against. Besides, goblins were too nasty to her and didn't seem to be the ones who could help. And… you know it's too hard to resist to stop killing them lol

And we both play! More precisely, one is playing and the other is watching. But we make decisions and choose dialogues together

Our work usually always starts with a few sketches, with or without color (depends on how complex the piece is), and then a lineart > rendering parts > adding details > finalizing

For how long have you been making art? Is there a schedule you have? (Like drawing at least 1 hour a day, etc.)

If you work fulltime (40h+/week) somewhere else and art is your hobby, is there any advice you have? I feel like time is running from my hands...

We don't really have a special schedule or anything, we just draw almost every day from 6 to 14 hours a day, depending on how we're feeling, work plans, deadlines, and inspiration. Drawing isn't just something we do, it’s literally our main job and pretty much our life, like non stop habit. So that's our advice... Just draw. Draw a lot and as often as you can. And you just get used to doing it all the time ✨

Hold up-- isn't Orin the sister of the DU? It was confirmed as far as I remember.

Did something change or did you guys fanon it differently?

Okay, we've got quite a few such questions. Let's figure it out a little bit

!Spoilers about Dark Urge and Orin's origin!

Orin is a blood-kin "sister" with the Bhaal's blood in her veins, but she can hardly be called a real sister, because the blood of Bhaal, the blood of Dead God, is the only thing that can really connect Dark Urge and Orin. However, her father is Sarevok Anchev (and her mother is Helena Anchev, who's also Sarevok's daughter.. Bhaal’s family is funny yeah yeah *sarcasm*), while Dark Urge doesn't have parents and was just created by Bhaal. So, Orin is not a true sister or something like that. And we follow this canon with Marrow's story. They don't see sisters in each other, but the legacy of one god

And even if she were a sister… It doesn't seem that anyone in Bhaal cult thinks about morals at all. In theory

Guys, guys… Obviously, anyone wants to be a lesbian with Orin okay? But if seriously, it was just a phraseology. Canonical Marrow is bisexual. We also mentioned her platonic bond with Gortash. But she had no experience of a normal serious relationship before Astarion (if their relationship can really be called normal lol) because she is Dark Urge and was the head of Bhaal cult — a person who was not looking for anything healthy and good

So with Orin, they were just physical lovers, not patners or more. But they could potentially be if everything were different

In short: love-hate, toxic, obsession. Their connection is about the physical, the instinctive, the wild. It’s like the ecstasy of madness between two lovers who are so much better at being enemies than as allies or family. But they were actually pretty good together, finding something in each other that you just can't get from any other mortal — equality in their intensity and power. Orin idolized Marrow, seeing in her a way to fill her inner void, for a sense of need and importance. Like a treasured tool, a favored weapon, a blood kin. And as for Marrow, Orin was like a drug she kept coming back to, a mirror reflecting the worst parts of herself. Only with her she could completely lose control of herself and enjoy the darkest desires. But her mind was always with Gortash, the man she gave her best parts to. So Orin began to see in Marrow echoes of Sarevok and Bhaal — unattainable idols who never put her in the first place. And she will never be in the first place for Marrow… And she knew what to do with that :)

So yeah... let's go bloody lesbians!!

Seeing more and more questions about this, so it makes sense to put these together in a single post

But before we start, a little warning: we ain't no art school graduates or anything, just a couple of self-taught illustrators who still figuring how to draw. This means we can't really give any pro tips, only share our experience, and let's be real, there's so little to share. So don't feel bad if after this post we sometimes skip these kinda questions — guys, we have a smooth brain and just vibing with our art. Nothing else v_v

So here you go

Nothing special, seriously. It might sound harsh, but sometimes we just don't have any other choice. Drawing is our job, our way of surviving, our life. There is no better motivation than taxes, you know. As for how we got started, it was all about that love for drawing, making ocs and stories, creating original stuff, and all the failures were like a boss fight. And fighting can be fun, not painful. Remember, the old you, the one who didn't know as much, brought you here — so don't ask too much from the current one, it's all part of the journey to becoming the future you. Love the process, not just the result. That's enough for us
