Hmmm... this is almost certainly something in the Genus Leucocoprinus. Can't identify it to species without more info.
This is a bad sign growing indoors, there is almost certainly water damage and/or rotting wood in your walls.
Hope this helps!
Can anyone help me identify this mushroom? It's about the height of a thumb

Hmmm... Probably Pleurotus species. Without more info it's hard to nail it down or get more specific, but the branching growth habit combined with the decurrent gills that run down the length of the stipe lead me toward Pleurotus.
Definitely not Bondarzewia berkeleyi, which has pores rather than gills, hence the common name, Berkeley's Polypore.
look. fungus can be pretty bad in your house, both structurally and in terms of the inherent health effects of having a living organism have sex on your walls and then release the resulting millions of spores into a confined space. but like. if you have three admirably large shelf-like mushrooms sprouting from the base of the wall in your living room, and they create a spore print so large it billows out a good couple feet….. idk man that might just be theirs now

Hmmm...
Unfortunately due to the very specific requirements needed to identify macrofungi, I cannot identify most of these. Unless an extremely well known and very physically distinct mushroom, such as those Amanita muscaria in the center or the Cantherellus species next to them, and what is possibly Collybia nuda in those large groups of upside down purple ones, most of these are going to be fairly difficult to identify with any accuracy.
A single picture of a top or bottom, or even the side of a mushroom usually isn't enough to identify them, multiple pictures from multiple angles are almost always required, along with information about the time of year and location they were harvested from.

Absolutely agree with everything above. For common mushrooms, it can be pretty quick to get an identification through iNat. With lots of referencing validated photos and comparing etc. but sometimes it takes me an hour on a really tricky one, and even then sometimes I just leave it as Agaricales or Polyporales and hope someone smarter than me comes along. Lucky for me I have a veritable wizard in the ID and Mycology world as a friend so she helps me out often.
But yes. Part of the reason I like iNat is it requires your work to ID something. It never just gives it to you.
Just so everyone is aware:
An international group of qualified mushroom identifiers who do worldwide identification in emergency cases have identified the Shroomers App as a potentially very dangerous system that could kill you if you try to use it to identify edible mushrooms. They use AI to generate almost all of their content, including their identification profiles on their app as well as their books and other materials. Not only is this unethical from a content creation standpoint, it is also extremely dangerous.

DO NOT USE APPS FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES BEYOND SIMPLE CURIOSITY. A MISTAKE WHEN IDENTIFYING AN EDIBLE COULD COST YOU YOUR LIFE. DO NOT EAT ANY FORAGED MUSHROOM YOU CANNOT IDENTIFY YOURSELF BY SIGHT OR HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED IN PERSON BY SOMEONE WHO CAN.
ONLY BUY BOOKS FROM REPUTABLE SOURCES AND AT THIS POINT THAT MEANS ASKING EXPERIENCED PEOPLE WHAT BOOKS THEY USE.
Mushrooms are fun, amazing organisms. Enjoy safely.

No mistake, especially one spurred on by apps promising impossible things to people that don't know any better, is deserving of death.
This post's intent was never to shame people, it was here to call out a predatory company and warn people against it. The fault for any poisonings because of this app and others like it falls entirely on the people who made the app. They're risking people's lives for money.

Thank you for the clarification.
And yes, I agree wholeheartedly, I would never base my edibility judgement off of the community ID on iNat. I should have explained that better! Thank you!

The Seek and iNaturalist app, and I could be wrong, do use a basic identification algorithm, and I'm not sure if it's considered AI or not, but it's more of a sorting algorithm more than anything else, and it's mostly based on human inputs and identifications. I'm not entirely sure the distinction. But as someone who uses iNaturalist regularly as a member of the Fungal Diversity Project, I will say if you're hoping for identification, go with iNaturalist rather than Seek. And never use either for identifying if something is edible or not. The beauty of iNaturalist is you can A) sort through tons of verified observations to help narrow down your own identification by comparison, and B) the iNat community as a whole can help you identify something, at least as far you can identify something through a photograph and basic descriptions. Sometimes it takes a while, but usually people can help you verify within a couple months. Plants and animals tend to be quicker, mushrooms take longer.
Seek is less serious and really an App more designed for hobbyists and casual observers. I would also like to correct you on one thing as someone who has used both apps extensively. The Seek app absolutely didn't tell you something was EDIBLE. It may have misidentified your mushroom as something you knew to be edible, but iNat and Seek don't venture into edibility talk (because as we've seen with other apps, hence my whole post, irresponsible). They do however sometimes link to other sites or resources where edibility may be a detail discussed along with other pertinent information, but they themselves don't have edibility information, and I think that's an extremely important distinction here.
Either way, never rely on an app, or even a single resource for edibility info. Read reputable books, join mushrooming clubs, take classes, etc. And NEVER eat something foraged you cannot personally identify. The one exception to this rule is if it has been identified by an expert or experienced forager.

Absolutely forage mushrooms. It can be a safe hobby and an extremely nutritious source of food. There are relatively few mushrooms poisonous to kill you and there are many mushrooms that are easy to identify for beginners.
Do you have to be careful? Yes.
Should you utilize experts and learn as much as you can before doing so? Yes.
Is there inherent risk involved? Of course, that's the nature of any hobby.
Join a local mushroom club. Take courses. Learn as much as you can from reputable sources.
Mushrooms are a much maligned organism that's worthy of our time, adoration, and attention. Spreading mycophobia and fear mongering over them won't help anyone.
Enjoy things. Just enjoy them safely!

Without better picture of the undersides and location info the best I can give you is that these are both likely, but not for sure, Ganoderma species, possibly Ganoderma applanatum on that first one, but once again without more info it's impossible to verify.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Found some mushrooms (first pic is on a tree stump) and was wondering if you could id them? Both trees were different and both mushrooms were very stiff. The one on the tree had left orange residue on the bark.
Nope. The one thing I DO NOT ID are mushrooms, since for most species they're impossible to ID online without being there to examine it yourself.
Additionally, never touch a mushroom you can't identify unless you're wearing latex gloves. Many mushrooms are toxic and potentially deadly toxins can be absorbed through the pores of your skin, or enter your body through your mouth if you forget to wash your hands or don't wash them thoroughly enough.
Stay safe out there 👍

You can ABSOLUTELY touch mushrooms with ungloved hands. This is blatant misinformation. The toxins in mushrooms must be ingested to be toxic. There are reports of one mushroom found in Australia that MAY cause contact dermatitis, but other than that likely blown out of proportion report, there isn't a single other mushroom on earth that is toxic or harmful to touch.
Stop spreading misinformation and mycophobia.
